You can’t pick the best part of the season and say that is the real player. You have to take the whole season into account and PLD sucked. A few yrs ago there was a 2 week period when Perreault led the entire league in points or we can take Copp’s first 4 weeks from last season and say he is more than a point a game player. Great that PLD had flashes of brilliance. He better put together some consistency this year.

If you don't want to base a judgement on a snippet of good play then look at more than just one shortened season too.

Look at his career to date. Look at the context of last year. Turmoil in CBus, Covid, quarantine, adapting to new teammates, new systems, injuries, etc, etc and you will see that there is no good reason to even be making an issue of PLD's production and play last year. It is pretty obviously not representative.

i think he should be getting more ice time too especially this last year when wheeler was struggling for like 75% of the year. dont care if he is on pp1 or pp2, but pp2 was better at putting the puck in the net (given their TOI). his lack of usage at 3v3 is a bit baffling too.
3x3 play. I completely forgot about that. He is the perfect player for that.

Any pro athlete can tell you that you are only as good as your last season. The chances that PLD will be a very good player are pretty high but 46 games is not a small sample size. He has a lot of hard work ahead of him.

And he has a very good history behind him. It was not a small sample, but it was a very unusual sample with the kerfuffle in CBus, followed by a 2 week quarantine, followed by at least 2 injuries. I don't think you can judge anything at all from those 46 games.

Have to say, outside the goal today, Nik didn’t play a good game.
I will say that Ehlers was clearly the best player against Korea, but it was Bjorkstrand that made a hattrick.

It was a little opposite in the game against Norway.
Here I think that Bjorkstrand was best but Ehlers made the goals.
However Ehlers was also not given much space in that game.

Norway was really packing the defense when Ehlers line was on the ice, so that made it a little difficult fr their line.

It was how ever a game typical for such rivals, Denmark and Norway.

And now for something completely different... Denmark vs South Korea, Monty Python style.

still one of the puck-carrying kings of the NHL.

nice to see some stats on this past year on his prowess.

Ehlers was 45th in the NHL for forwards in time on ice per game. How much time does he need to make people happy? Does he have to be top 10? Top 5? Number 1?

probably whatever amount being on the top-line dictates? would rather have the top-line out-scoring the opposition, rather than getting out-scored, as we've seen the last 3 years.

Top 45 in the NHL kind of indicates top line minutes does it not? Pastrnak gets five seconds more per game. Is he not a first liner?

it's not about ice time. it's about having a top-line that isn't getting outscored. maybe CSW needs to play less, and 2nd line more? who knows. i think having a top-line that is out-scoring the opposition is probably important though. the 2nd line and lowry's line are usually on the (+) side of the goal-share, and they play infront of the same D group and Goaltender.

The top line was positive corsi share last year and got .878 goaltending at 5v5. I think their metrics will come up with a much better defence behind them. Ehlers is doing fine where he is.

878 goaltending b/c C-S-W are generally at the bottom of the league high-danger chances allowed and xGA. i mean, you can expect a poor SV% when those 3 players individually rate near the bottom of all Fwds of the league in terms of rates of on-ice chances allowed, especially considering they're a top line going against other top6 lines who generally have higher % shooters (when it's not Lowry matching up).

so high quality/quantity chances given up + going against higher % shooters = poor SV%. 18-19 was the same and the D group was good then.

ehlers for sure is doing fine, however, the top-line of CSW has been no good since 17-18. we haven't had a poor D group through all that time, and even then, there are line combos on this team who play infront of the same D group and Goaltender and are rating positive in the net-scoring.
