Guys will get banged up in the playoffs, it's a good thing to have another body with NHL playoff experience.

For sure, I get that. Just not sure I would have given up this much for a guy who might not be a regular in the lineup. It’s not really a ton, but we have limited assets

It does, however swapping Brodie out for another D doesn’t get Edmundson into the lineup necessarily. That’s 1D in, 1 out.
You don't think they'd run something like the following?...

Rielly / Parayko
Edmundson / Lyubushkin
Benoit / McCabe / Liljegren

Size, cycle breaking and defensive net front presence on every pairing. A completely different defensive mindset from the previous regime.

we got a lot of Wardlows, Brian Cages, that cant move the puck lol, but lets see what happens, I like bringing in size on the back end, it cant hurt
Nicely done analogy, haha. I still wish my Bruins kind of adapted more of a mean back end. I know 2011 was a long time ago but they had Chara, McQuaid, Boychuk, Ference and Seidenberg back there who were absolutely torture to the opposing teams forecheck. You met one of those guys in a corner and you're not going to have a good time. They didn't have an elite puck mover back then, they just hit the shit out of you and punished you every chance you get, mind you they had Chara in his absolute prime, but other than him, not a ton of offensive talent. The key is finding a balance.

Like the player, don’t like the cost or the fit. But if he can play both sides, the fit workers.

They might, but I doubt it. I can’t see all 3 guys they just acquired leapfrogging McCabe, Benoit and Liljegren. It’s most likely Edmundson ends up in a rotation in that scenario.

If thats our 2nd and 3rd pairing, we are toast
Sadly, you can't remake your entire defense core at one deadline, especially with the assets Toronto has.

If they keep the status quo, the defense pairings are toast. A team like Florida will just toy with Brodie, Liljegren and Giordano on the forecheck and abuse them in front of the net.

I will at least say, or reiterate, if this helps the PK I’m all for it. Our PK without some real help was/is going to sink us in the playoffs, garaunteed.

when ref will stop calling penalties like how they should like what its case late in 3rd, in OT or on key game, people will like to have a edmundson in to give some slash in front of the net, intimidsting after whisttle and all those thing like what Gudas did last playoff

Silver lining loading up with 3rd pairing guys for a playoff run. At least no Savard for a 1st:laugh: Seems like a move you make if you think you are already set with the top 4 though.

Both Boosh and Edmundson are UFA’s after this season?

So our D corps that is signed for next season is currently:

Rielly-Liljegren
McCabe-Benoit
Lagesson-Timmins

Yesh……

There are more moves on D coming. Book it.

I agree but my last couple of looks at Edmundson makes me think he's been toast and gets walked far too often

Really, beyond that top pair, I don't care how the bottom 5 shakes up. My primary concern would be going into a playoff series against a Boston or a Florida, with any 3 of Brodie, Liljegren, Giordano, Lagesson or Timmins in your top 6.

Talk about "blood in the water" for the opposition's forecheck and net front prescence.

So where will Edmundon play?

Also I see that Timmins was placed on LTIr - a big confusing since he recently said he feels ready to play.

Willing to bet brodie and lily are on their way out.
If Lily gets traded I will riot. He's still extremely young, I think he's gonna be like a prime Brodie at his peak. He's going to be 25 and likely won't peak until 27-28, I think we'll regret trading him.

Brodie absolutely needs to go though, him and Gio are completely done at this point. Gio made some massive mistakes in the Panthers series last year as well.

That might very well turn out to be the case. That's why I was against moving assets for "meh" players, while teams like Vegas and Tampa simply target and subsequently land studs.
