Edmonton Oil Kings/Junior Hockey thread

Honestly I'm not hearing a whole heck of a lot about the Oil Kings on local radio. I usually listen on way to work and on way home, as we a couple times a month at lunch when I'm out and about
I think everyone is waiting for their inevitible matchup against the Ice.

Oil Kings are comparatively to their leagues, the best Edmonton hockey team. U of A Golden Bears are close too.

Oil Kings and Golden Bears are a toss up, edge to the Bears until we see if the OKs emerge from the Dub.

Anyone who watches closer than I do, is this team legit talented or is it a repeat of the first titles where all our guys were older and stronger than everyone?

They are for sure legit and stacked. They paid a steep price though, picking up Guhle, Sourdif, Prokop, etc

Neighbours is going to be a fan fav in St. Louis. Big time character, lots of skill.

Guenther has an NHL shot and I'm kind of surprised Arizona didn't keep him this year.

Cossa is a brick wall, man. And he has a bit of fire to him as well.

They're fun. I highly recommend checking out the games against Winnipeg, as they're pretty stacked too. Savoie and Geekie should go pretty high in the draft this year, and Lambos and McClennon are legit NHL prospects. This is the real WHL final, IMO. The winner of this series should beat the west team.

I’d say it’s both. They are very talented before the big trades but gave up a lot of their future to get key, older players for a cup run. They’re all in and had better win this year because there will be a (perhaps) big drop off next season as players such as Guenther and Neighbours move on. They won’t be championship-calibre next season. Last year was a big disappointment because they could have won with a great team if the season hadn’t been cancelled.

Only thing I don't like about junior hockey is the stars disappear after about 4 years or less.

Oil Kings putting the boots to the Ice, 4-0 in the first period, potentially onwards to the WHL Finals.

With so few draft picks this year I'm thinking guys like Edmonton native Carter Souch, Josh Williams, and fingers crossed Simon Kubicek get looks for AHL deals with the Condors.
