One of these things is not like the others

I have full faith that we're a playoff team.

Washington last year sold Joel Edmundson, Anthony Mantha and Evgeny Kuznetsov at the deadline in 3 separate deals for a total of a 2nd, two 3rds, a 4th and a 5th, then somehow still made the playoffs. We're a way better team than that corpse of a team that got in last year. (And I'd love the reverse 8vs1 matchup against them this year so we can beat them again, but that's for another day)

We have one more piece to sell in Reilly Smith for picks and then I do expect Drury to make at least one cheeky trade to add, probably someone with some term, for the picks acquired from the Lindgren and Smith trades.

Are we buying in to the 'Miller effect' where he's come in a is dragging this team with him, or did the team just (sort of) find its game again after sucking for too long?
We've gone 7-4-0 with Miller here, after going 7-2-2 in the 11 before he got here, but;

Miller is 7-7-14 after going 1-5-6 in the 11 beforehand
Mika is 4-11-15 after going 1-4-5 in 11
Cuylle is 4-2-6 after going 2-1-3 in 11

So it does look like if nothing else bringing him has completely changed the fortunes of him, and our top line

It would be foolish to say that Miller hasn't had an impact on those guys and vice versa.

... But they were playing well before Miller got here even though their stat lines didn't reflect it.

These things even out. In January Cuylle couldn't buy a goal despite throwing a shit load of quality chances on net.

Today he scored a goal that bounced in off of his head.

Rangers need to win at a .700 clip to get in. That's not easy! Schedule is tough here on out. If they pull out of that would be actually impressive
All the teams around the Rangers are mid. Rangers wont have to play at a .700 pace to get in. I'm sure it would guarantee it, but look at last year's race down to the final day. So many teams had chances to run away with it and no one did until the corpse of the Washington Capitals got in.

Don't know how much I read into Lindgren no longer on our team. Nashville and the Islanders are pretty much bottom of the league offenses. His last game against the Leafs the Rangers defense was pretty good. There was that whacky bad luck goal by Nylander that Trocheck helped to knock in and the Igor giveaway into traffic that Marner and Matthews turned into a goal by Knies. The Leafs are a top offense--the Rangers D on the whole played pretty well and we were overall the better team. We just found a way to lose it and IMO Igor made the big mistake that night.

JT Miller has been an excellent player since he came back. I think he's helped quite a lot in Zibanejad's revival. Cuylle seems almost a younger version of JT. If there's one forward who really stepped up his game from last year it's him.
