Only reason for Montreal making the trade would be Holloway .
Montreal will likely trade Petry to a US team likely only after this season.
Lehkonen being traded might not happen Montreal could resign him if they don't receive an offer they like.
Shocking. Only reason Montreal is making lateral player moves is to get free blue chip prospects and a 1st?

Habs making trades will likely happen before trade deadline that's what's expected .

What the hell did I just read here? So we've moved on to Foegele is a cap dump now? Barrie being one is bad enough, but you've doubled down and now Foegele is?

Foegele is in Laval? Barrie plays behind everyone on your right side? This is too much.

You don't have a clue... and I mean a CLUE about these players.

The Habs power play is a terrible 13.95%, next to DEAD LAST in the NHL. You don't think Barrie would immediately improve their power play? The guy who lead the entire league in points for defensemen last year?

Good grief.

Yeah, we have a terrible year.
On last year Habs, none of them are part of the line-up.
And this year we are tanking, so we don't need those useless players.
Your team is still in the race for the playoffs, you should try to trade them ASAP and replace them with actual good hockey players

Petry has been garbage this year, he would be behind Barrie right now. He's gone anyway. Edmunson has been out all year and is solid, but a bottom pair guy ideally. Chairot isn't playing well, toss up on who is better, but he's out at the end of year at the latest as well. I like Romanov, but his ideal spot would be on the 2nd pair, behind Barrie. Barrie - Romanov - Edmundson would actually be a decent right side moving forward.

Foegle was a middle six winger for Carolina for the past few years. He's been the same for us, with the odd appearance on the top line. The only complaint we have about him is the same complaint Carolina fans had about him - he isn't a great finisher. But you guys would love him, he's basically like Gallagher with worse hands, so to suggest he would be in Laval is absolutely ridiculous and shows what you know about the NHL outside of the Habs. If he wore a Habs jersey you would be pumping his tires and talking about his top line scoring potential.

I think your GM needs to worry about getting players that will help the team not be an embarassment for the next few years before they worry about playoffs.

Last year Petry is the best d-man you would have since what, Pronger? Btw Romanov and Edmunson are playing on the left side.

This year is an absolute tire fire, and trying to compare both our teams together says more about the state of the Oilers than of the Habs.
And Foegle shouldn't be named in the same sentance as Gallagher lol The Habs should stay the f away of guys like this, unless we want to tank for a decade like the Oilers

The proposal was made because McDavid is UFA 2026 and draisaitl 2025. Holloway certainly have more upside than Lehkonen, but doubt Holloway removes either Drai or McD from 1-2C soon. Nurse gets his raise next year, so do Pulju and Yamamoto. If Oilers wanna contend, the time is now and with Petry 2M retained, Kane at a bargain and Lehkonen on 2.3M, now would be a good time.
If Oilers are again stacking picks and prospects, they will loose both Draisaitl and McDavid to UFA. Doubt the 2 Top5 centers want to see the team building for the future once again?
What exactly does Lehkonen do for us, and what makes you think Petry would be anything but miserable about going back to Edmonton. It’s just a no-go from the start.

It feels like Lehkonen is always talked highly about by Habs fans, but they're trying to dump him in almost every proposal on here. Something doesn't add up.

They aren't dumping him. They want to sell the good assets to kickstart a rebuild/retool. Its pretty basic actually.

Fans make Op's with out a thought in the world .

1) Edmonton traded a young Petry for crap because he didn't want to be in Edmonton .
2) Petry's wife and kids moved back to the USA because of Covid . So why is he going to move further away from them ?
3) Petry isn't worth his cap hit and you are calling Barrie a cap dump ?
4) You know apart of the problem in Montreal is Petry .
5) Isn't it funny that if an Oiler player is having a down year it will cost them 1st x 2 to move them . Montreal players having a down year are still gold . Price never played a game this year and Montreal fan feel he worth a big haul . Montreal will be retain lots or adding to move these players .

In your head, rent free
Rather shop them seperately for a better deal. Barrie and Foegele at that hit until 2024 is brutal, We have enough stinky contracts as is (see petry, gallagher). Holloway is nice though
Really man? You get a 1st and a A prospect in Holloway and you think you can get better with shopping them separately?

This is great value for Montreal and Hughes/Gorton would clearly jump on that if given the opportunity.

Last year Petry would have been our #2 behind Darnell Nurse.

There are a couple of Habs fans on here that are truly delusional. No chance the Oilers ever offer anything like that for Petry or Lehkonen. No one else will either. Complete fantasy. You try and talk sense to some of these guys and they just dig their heels in and ignore reality. They want what they want. It's like talking to children.

Oh, and I am a big fan of your show. Keep up the good work.

Well, seeing as how they have exactly the same number of points (10) and play the same position, yeah they should. Also, you might note that Foegele is 25 and signed for $2.75 Million for 2.5 years. Gallagher is falling off a cliff, 29 years old and signed for... wait for it... $6.5 Million until 2027. That's 5.5 more years.

Who is the cap dump in the scenario?

Montreal (or any team) is going to retain 2.5 for 3 years after this year? Not bloody likely.

Edmonton get:

Lehkonen 2,3M RFA 2022
Petry 4,25M UFA 2025 (with 2M retained by Montreal)

Montreal get:

Tyson Barrie 4,5M UFA 2024
Warren Foegele 2,75M UFA 2024
Edmonton 1st 2022
Dylan Holloway

Edmonton get a very good young RFA on a good contract in Lehkonen. He plays a good 200ft game, PK:s and can play anywhere in the lineup. Preferrable 2-3 LW. Petry is a great D, who is having a down year. Montreal retains 2M on him to fit the trade.
Montreal get a 1st and Holloway for retaining 2M on Petry and taking on Foegele and Barrie. Both are serviceable players, but a bit overpaid, thus the +:s.

Are you insane? The Oilers get killed in this deal.....

Edmonton has MccDavid and Draisaitl at C. They are a few years from UFA. Their time to contend is now. If they want to try get all the way they have to overpay. Many players have NMC:s or NTC:s and Edmonton isnt exactly the most wanted place to go. This would give Edmonton a good shot to try contend. Petry is a pretty good upgrade on Barrie:

Kane - McDavid - Puljujärvi
Hyman - Draisaitl - Yamamoto
Lehkonen - RNH - Ryan
McLeod - Shore - Kassian

Nurse - Bouchard
Keith - Petry
Lagesson - Ceci

There is no way to spin this trade to make it look reasonable. Give it up
