So true, such a predictable reaction. My first reaction to seeing Drai sign for 14mil was to wonder who on HF would be pised off over it.
The usual suspects.

I can’t wait until McDavid signs for more than this and they complain that he didn’t take league minimum to build a winner.

They like to set unrealistic expectations so they can later complain about it.

Must be a miserable way of life complaining about an entertainment product every day

So many Oilers fans here big mad that IN THEIR OPINION he’s overpaid by 0.5M…they’d be ok with 13.5 but 14 is just awful.

Time to take the rest of the offseason off from this place. Some of you just live to be miserable.

Are people really that mad? Maybe I just have some people blocked.

Some people are indicating that they wish it was less but are happy he’s signed.

The usual suspects that are complaining about the "complainers" are the ones that said Nurse's deal wasn't going to be a problem.

Are people really that mad? Maybe I just have some people blocked.

Some people are indicating that they wish it was less but are happy he’s signed.
The guy likes to overexaggerate everything. Can't discuss anything without him policing everything

There isn't a single person here who's unhappy he's signed. Some are just wishing it came a bit cheaper, that's all there is to it. Mountains out of molehills for some people.

In two years he will be the 4-5 highest paid player in the league. It's not like he's going to be the highest paid player in the league for 8 seasons.

What the hell does this even mean? Lol.
I thought it was a pretty strange flex as well. He may as well have pulled a George Costanza and said “Oh yeah??!! Well I had sex with your wife!”

Happy Draisaitl signed long term and is an Oiler for what should be the duration of his career. Realistically, he wasn’t signing for anything under 13 AAV. He will at least perform to the contract unlike another Oiler signed long term with a boat sinking AAV.

Not sure if full 8years is a plus point but was needed to get him locked up for the next 5yrs where he will be elite.
Elite players are usually great right until the end.

Plus with cap growth, 9 years from now it's not going to be an elite cap hit

Drai's fiance Celeste really likes it in Edmonton too. Good thing he got himself a good Canadian girl👌🙂

It's weird to have to explain this, but what HFOil "hopes for" is never, ever, ever relevant to the actual workings of a professional sports team.
Fair enough. it wasnt just HfOil but media as well. There were certainly questions raised and it was declared an overpayment right away ala Nurse. Lucic's deal with Oilers was considered a 'hit'.
"
This is No. 1 center money. Actually, it’s more than that: There are only five centers who will make more against the cap than Draisaitl next season: Jonathan Toews ($13.8 million, 29 years old), Anze Kopitar ($13 million, 29), Evgeni Malkin ($9.5 million, 31), Sidney Crosby ($8.7 million, 31) and Steven Stamkos ($8.5 million, 27).

Together, this group has 11 Stanley Cups, four Conn Smythe trophies and three Hart trophies."

"
"Leon Draisaitl, 21, got both in his eight-year, $68-million deal with the Edmonton Oilers announced on Tuesday, giving him an $8.5 million cap hit through the 2024-25 season. It’s another classic overpayment from general manager Peter Chiarelli, who you might know from such hits as the David Krejci extension in Boston and the Milan Lucic deal with the Oilers.

The question this time is whether overpayment is justified.

This is the fourth-highest second contract of the NHL salary cap era, a list populated by Connor McDavid, Alex Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. In three of those cases, they signed deals after having won the Hart Trophy.

OK, let’s bring this into a tighter focus on Draisaitl: It’s an overpayment if you judge the deal on accepted dogma and Draisaitl’s current trajectory as a player; it’s completely reasonable if Draisaitl ends up being the Malkin to Connor McDavid’s Crosby in a burgeoning Oilers Dynasty."

And you're aware that McDavid is already one of the best players of all time?

But by all means, explain why you think he's going to take a contract identical to Leon's.
Connor McDavid doesn't do what Connor McDavid does for Connor McDavid. Connor McDavid does what Connor McDavid wants because Connor McDavid is Connor McDavid.

we're gonna dance like there is no no tomorrow
whatever the hang up we're getting the gang up
and we are gonna have us some fun
If you're worried and full of trouble
come on down and it will pop like a bubble
well if your problems are caused by heartbreak
come on and join us you'll forget all your heartache
whatever the hang up we're getting the gang up
and we are gonna have us some fun
Is everybody happy we're gonna have some fun
is everybody happy well everybody have a lot everybody have a lot of fun
If you're surrounded by clouds of thunder
don't let it get you down and pull you under
you gotta fight it and learn your lesson
or you will end up in a deep deep depression
whatever the hang up we're getting the gang up
and we are gonna have us some fun

I’m not the one making absolutes like you did in your first post.

It’s okay, item number 10000 that you’re wrong about on here.
