Anyone complaining about being able to retain our superstars should just become a Utah Hockey Club fan where they have no stars because that’s how you win a cup apparently
They’d be in heaven, an endless number of things to complain about

Him and a couple others have already determined that is impossible lol.

That’s ironic of you to say.

But hey if you want to project misery 24/7 go hard. There will always be one thing to find to be eternally negative about in sports if you look hard enough. You concentrate on that and I’ll look for the good.
The funny thing is you're more upset at posters for having nuanced takes than you are happy that Leon is signed.

Nobody here is upset that Leon is signed, some of us just wish it came a bit cheaper because we're still cap strapped thanks to previous management.

Nuance, my friend. Nuance.

Still if Hyman is having career years at more than 3 years older than Draisaitl, I don't see where it's written in stone that Draisaitl, who has much more talent, can't still be a top player.

Not everyone massively tails off in their 30s, Jonathan Marchessault just scored 40 goals and is 5 years older than Draisaitl.
As good as Drai is, not everyone becomes better after 30. I do hope Drai ages well like Lebron James tho. Both play a similar type game and are built like an ox

He’s going to be the highest paid player in the league for at least one season. That’s not fair value any way you slice it.
Lol what he has done the last many years it's completely fair. What isn't fair was having pull my pants down porn stache being the highest paid player in any circumstances lol

Had a feeling that the Mutts guys were right.

I'm glad that it's done but I'm not a big fan of the number but he's locked up now which is good of course so lets go get a Cup in what should be a 2-3 year window.
My thoughts exactly.
Really glad its done but the number pretty much confrims that the top 4 contracts on this team (McDavid, Draisaitl, Bouchard and Nurse) will come in at just under $50M which is right where I was expecting it to land.
Thats a potential concern moving forward. Especially when Drai gets further into his 30's.

Not one post about him enjoying the signing. Just endless posts of him complaining about people who are not even complaining or upset. Adding nothing to discussion at this point

well yeah....paying a 36 year old 14 mil isn't ideal but that's a problem down the road
bottom line here: pay your stars, especially elite ones

I'm ecstatic he's willing to be an Oiler for life

Wow, very surprised at the 8 more than the 14. I just don't see signing any 28 year old for 8, but if he can deliver consistent good playoff years, and at least 1 cup, then nobody will be complaining.

And of course the point of that Matthews deal is that he can sign again soon after the big cap increases and Roger's deal. So in 2028 Drai will be making 14 million and Matthews will probably have 17+
I actually want the leafs to retain him. I'm so tired of American teams stealing talent.

For everyone fretting about the cap hit I think the plan will be to move nurse after mcdavid extends. That somewhat coincides with nurse having a limited 10 team nmc.

It will cost a 1st+ but yes if they want to keep Bouchard long term past a bridge deal, they will have to trade Nurse in summer 2027.

I remember mcdavids first year our idiot media bugging Leon "how good is mcdavid wow he's so good right omg right me nobody"

Leon was always gracious despite desperately trying to make the team himself.

Today, at least for a short while, he's the highest paid player in the league.

I agree...there really isnt any way around this. A top heavy team (top 4 contracts) is a reality.
Nurse had better reinvent himself and step up big time and start delivering value to his $9.25M contract.

I agree. Also I don't hate the Leafs at all and I don't hate their fans. A friend of mine from Ontario is a Leaf fan. I love it when they fail but I don't want franchise burning stuff to happen to them.

And yeah there's lots of crappy Leaf fans who we all love to see crying. But it's a big fan base with every type of person. A lot of Leaf fans have been genuinely congratulatory about this Draisaitl signing actually.
