Also can’t wait while we are celebrating a Stanley Cup win with Drai getting the Conn Smyth the expected posters coming in with “this is great, but what about the last 2-3 years of the Contract!”

They’re re-arming, as they used most of those posts during the Hyman signing.
GUYS STOP ENJOYING HYMAN SCORING 27, 36 AND 54 GOALS!!!!!!! DONT YOU KNOW THE LAST YEARS OF THE CONTRACT ARE GONNA SUCK?

Maybe he'll take the same as Drai
Him and a couple others have already determined that is impossible lol.
Everyone complains here and it's never going to get old. It's comes with having a discussion and having different opinions. What's getting old is you coming back from a hiatus and policing. Just let people post their thoughts. No one has posted anything bad. We are happy Drai is coming back. just don't like the AVV
That’s ironic of you to say.

But hey if you want to project misery 24/7 go hard. There will always be one thing to find to be eternally negative about in sports if you look hard enough. You concentrate on that and I’ll look for the good.

Perhaps. But dump the superstars and it’s more than likely the same outcome. You never know if the goods you get in a trade for a skill like Drai will compensate or be even a better sum of the parts towards a championship. I like that the Oilers are going all in with these guys.

Nordiques trade of Lindros didn’t amount to anything championships.

Montreal forced to move Roy. Zippo.

Let’s try it this way!
well, the Lindros trade didn't help the nordiques but it certainly helped the Avalanche.

I agree though

They will stop eventually, re-loading their simple one sided brain to start the same phrase when McD will sign his new contract and Bouch and Stu etc. That bitterness for Oilers having McDrai smells all over here.

Quebec moved to Colorado and won the cup. I think the Lindros trade was a good part of that team's build to the cup.

Team needs to start drafting well ASAP. Only way they're going to keep contending after these extensions kick in.

Well give me an example of a team winning the cup with the highest AVV in the league at the age of 30? Have that been done? Am I being negative if I ask you this?

Nah. Team needs to trade every draft pick for rentals and rely on cup chasing vets to rotate in short term for cheap.

People are going to have to get used to the supporting cast around the core pieces being a real revolving door.

It's probably too late for drafting to be honest, like even if you hit with a pick in the 2025 draft, odds are they're not going to be a difference maker in games until like 2029, unless you hit a massive home run.

Pro scouting is going to have to be much better and more aggressive, you have to find under the radar guys and target prospects that are further along in development that wash out from other orgs (ie: Valimaki, Podkolzin, Kostin, etc.) that don't cost a lot of money.

We are probably going to have to spend a good deal of picks on rentals and/or getting rid of some salary (Kane needs to go in 2025, Nurse in 2027) as well.

yup Ricci and Forsberg were on that SCwinner. The rest? Nope. The point being every trade for a superstar is a question mark. Why create a question mark in a Stanley cup win now window, when you know what you have.

Bingo.

Pretty much any draft pick we have is better served being traded for help now, even the 1st rounder. When you're picking after the 25th spot every year none of those players will do anything for us in our compete window anyways. We'd be accruing prospects that might, maybe possibly be good depth no sooner than 4 years from now.

Just move the picks and make astute trades like we did for younger talent this off season to supplement the team's position now.

Pretty much yes. The time to draft/develop was 2015-2023 or so, that window is over. I mean if the scouts can hit pay dirt with 2nd or 3rd or 4th round picks, hey sure, but probably a lot of the future picks are gone.

We have to win in the next 3 years.

Didn't a majority of Oiler fans say this when he signed 8 years 8.5 mill lmfao.

The cap is rising. I love how fans are already calling this bad
The 8.5m was an overpay at the time too. It was an unprecedented amount. We got lucky he turned into such a stud.

And even then, there is a big difference between signing a 21 year old to an 8 year knowing he will continue to improve and signing a guy who will be 30 once the deal starts to an 8 year deal.

Very few players, even the elite of the elite, continue to challenge for top 5 player in the league into their 30s.

After turning 30 number of times these guys finished top 5 in league scoring:
Crosby one time
Malkin one time
Kane one time
Ovechkin never

Counter point ... Hyman is 3 years older than Draisiatl and just had a career year.

Fully agree. Go for it now. Edmonton's window is in the next two years IMO. Drasaitl needs to be there.

I thought the Quebec/Colorado example was an odd one.

Hyman makes 5.5M lol

Still if Hyman is having career years at more than 3 years older than Draisaitl, I don't see where it's written in stone that Draisaitl, who has much more talent, can't still be a top player.

Not everyone massively tails off in their 30s, Jonathan Marchessault just scored 40 goals and is 5 years older than Draisaitl.
