Thoughts:

1) Strome is younger
2) Strome historically has a higher offensive upside
3) Strome is RHS
4) even though deal is salary neutral, should be cheaper for us or anyone else to extend Strome - that adds value
5) i was right about Spooner getting us a (former) 1st round pick
6) he’s #18, so maybe Staal is on way out

PLUS Strome a RFA at end of this contract. Spooner UFA.

The more I think about it, the more I could see Strome carving out a role here.

I trust Quinn and this organization to put Strome in a position to succeed much more than Edmonton, that’s for sure.
I’m with you, the more I think about it, the more I like it. We traded a guy who’s really inconsistent but has higher highs and lower lows for a guy who can be a Namestnikov/Fast level guy consistently in the bottom 6 (and maybe even more than that, but I’m not holding my breath)

I think we barely won the trade consider age topic as well since Strome is 25, and I am aware it was a pre season OT win goal. However Ryan Strome need to figure out how to be productive for us and it might help him to come here to New York with a new team and coaches.

I said it before but I am interested as well. First time this kid will play for a big boy organization with accountability and professionalism not the clown shows he grew up in.

So is it confirmed now that @NYR Viper is Jeff Gorton? ;)

Speculation: - Roster Building Thread Part XV: Trading up or down? - Mod Warning post #450

Since there isn't much news, would anyone do a deal centered around Ryan Strome for Ryan Spooner?”

I like this trade for us. Strome is a character guy. RHS. Can play on a depth line. I ridiculed PC for getting him and was on the bandwagon when he was trashed for being overrated. But perspective changes. Can he be a valuable depth guy? Think there are good prospects for that.

IMO Spooner was a nothing asset the way he played this yeah. Hopefully Spooner can become something here. If not, oh well, but he’s a young high potential RH shot. Let’s tske a chance.

Him being a RH shot to put on the PP is very interesting.

I heard about this 2 weeks ago during the West Coast trip and mentioned it. I promised not to tell Any names to My source. These guys are very Adamant about things like this. And They frequent these boards. Now I am more trusted...

Why are these capitalized?... AMAT... "A"ssistant MATs Zucc next to go?

Did I crack the code?

I mean hasn’t he been a pretty solid 30 pt center for them?

We didn’t trade eberle for him we just need him to be a good bottom 6 guy with some offense

This is just his second year with Edmonton. He did score 34 points last year with 13 goals. This year he has 2 points in 18 games.

He had a good "rookie" year (first full year) for the Isles and then the offense vanished

Hope you’re right. But I think you’re giving the Rangers a touch more credit than they deserve. Two words: A emmmmeffing V ;)

I suspect, that first year, he was getting a lot of top line minutes. Probably on the ice with JT a lot. Maybe someone can find stats for that? If interested.

Watch Strome break out with us and another Chiarelli fail results from trading with the Metropolitan division.

I like the trade. Let's see what happens.

I kinda like this deal besides the salary retention but I kinda wonder what deals Gorton left on the table at the draft/before signing Spooner
