LOL. Terrible contract. And Lucic won't help much. Edomonton is less talented than they were a week ago, and we can now watch the puck bounce over Lucic's stick all the time, as he falls down going into the corner. Sure he's tough....for maybe another 2 years......but he turns into a spaz in big games and that team is STILL full of young, talented, weak players.

Lottery pick for them next summer.
why are you so mad? did lucic do something to u?

If LA really did offer 8 years last minute to try to keep him, I don't think people can be too harsh on Edmonton for giving him 7 :D

In a few years this is going to be horrible for the Oilers. Good now, horrible then. Maybe they plan on winning before then?

I don't see how you can look at the Oilers roster right now and come to the conclusion that they are weak. But in the meantime, I'm loving this saltiness.

Yeah, the roster looks pretty solid. Could do with another puck moving defenseman. But this team should at least compete for a playoff spot

The Oilers have looked like they may put it together for years now. Sekera was supposed to be the missing link last year, too.

They still lack that top pairing that can log big minutes and while Lucic is big and all how long can he be effective? I don't know trading away Hall for Larsson straight up just seems dumb if it was to make room for Lucic.

Worrying about how he'll play in the last two years is like worrying that your wife will get fat

The Kings Cup window has effectively been closed by certain wives getting fat. Richards and Brown fell off a cliff midway through big money contracts that seemed worth it at the time.

Acting like its nothing to worry about flies in the face of what is happening RIGHT NOW to a team that only two years ago was a dominant force. These risky long term deals can and will sink contending teams. The Kings are playing with a 6 million dollar handicap against their cap, which has prevented them from continually adding pieces to contend.

Pretending like its no big deal is naive.

I was saying that it would be hard to look at the Oiles roster and determine that they are physically weak. If the season started right now I would expect them to be in the bottom 10 still

They're definitely closer but still a ways away. The bottom six is crap and they are still weak at defense. I think they will finish 10th or 11th in the West this season and squeak in next season. Still too many holes for Chia to fix in one offseason

I like all the armchair experts saying he will be a bust in a few years. he has barely missed a game since 2011. just because you hate the guy doesn't mean he won't work out well in edmonton
Yet people are praising his tenacious style and expecting him to stay healthy.

I think they stand a pretty good chance to make the playoffs.

I still think the defense and bottom six is too weak to compete for a playoff spot but we will see

hmmm... $6m a year for at worst a top 6 winger for the next 5 years? Contract is front loaded & limited trade clause the last 2 years... Easy to dump if needed to a cap floor team. I like Lucic at 6... great deal..

Guess Lucic's NTC would not include a cap floor team.
It set up so you cannot buy him out or trade him very easily. Its a nasty contract that way.

but next 3-4 years should be a good deal and right now that is all that matters.

I like Edmonton's balance better now, tougher to play against, but Lucic has a couple of good years left. He had an absurdly high shooting % and yet only 20 goals...could regress to a 15 goal guy pretty quick but then again McDavid can bounce some pucks off him...

Well Kings had an opportunity to rid themselves of Richards, and the Voynov wife beating things really set the Kings way back.

If the Kings don't go through that, they easily could survive the Brown deal

You surely payed term other teams would not go near.

Actually that is not true. In the Lucic and Chiarelli press conference it was said that another team offered more term (had to be LA because they were the only team allowed to offer 8 years) and another team offered more money (LeBrun tweeted it was the Habs).

The Oilers have looked like they may put it together for years now. Sekera was supposed to be the missing link last year, too.

Lol what? All Sekera did was give the team more than one capable top-4 defenseman heading into last year.

Larsson makes that three now.....our defense still isn't set however, and as it stands....won't, til Nurse develops.

Every sensical Oiler fan is cognizant of this fact.

You guys are ridiculously disconnected with these taunts.

Hall does not equal Larsson fantasy-wise. But the Larsson aquisition brings more balance, which makes a better team.

Finally the Oilers are pushing forward with a new plan, one where gargantuan holes are in the process of being filled. Hall's point production wasn't getting us any closer to the playoffs, now was it? The Devils had great balanced teams in winning the Cup, all without crazy offensive weapons.

So gimme a break. The Oilers ARE a better team right now as it pertains to their odds of winning games. Will the Lucic signing hinder us down the road? Maybe. Time will tell.
