I still don't understand why people think that "intimidation" is at all a thing. I mean, it's great that everyone that played the Bruins was so intimidated that no one ever gave Savard a cheap head shot while Lucic, Chara, etc. were on that team. Oh, wait....

The idea that professional hockey players are going to be intimidated by someone like Lucic is ludicrous. He's a standard issue power forward. Big deal. We're not exactly talking about Stu Grimson here. Edmonton is going to be regretting this one big time in 3-4 years, when his performance numbers are down to levels like Dustin Brown has had in LA recently.

Why are people still talking about this. It was a great ****ing signing and Edmonton is a better team for it. They look very deep on paper and I think they might finally make the playoffs this year.

Lucic-Mcdavid-Puljujarvi
Pouliot-Draisaitl-Eberle
Maroon-RNH-Yakupov
Who cares

Klefbom-Larsson
Sekera-Nurse
Davidson-Fayne

I bet some of you would sell your soul to have this lineup. Great job Edmonton. Might finally be turning the corner.

Defense is still weak. Only three top-4 defenseman- and no #1 in that list (1 #2 and 2 #3s).....Davidson still hasn't shown that he's a legit top-4 d-man and Nurse as well- despite his potential and pedigree- is a bottom-pairing guy at this point.

Add a guy like Jason Demers as a UFA who is a top-4 (#4) and we'll make a playoff push and finish as a bubble team just outside of the playoffs.....add a Tyson Barrie without sacrificing any talent IE offer-sheet, and we're probably a wild-card team.

"And finally their 2006 second-round pick has shown up ten years later."

Aha, he remembered.

not surprised, its too long, just like most of these contracts, that said, if you want him, it will be a 7 year contract.

Edmonton is going to be much more difficult to play against. Right move for them.

LA offered 8 years. Peter just said in the press conference "other teams offered more term, you can probably guess who."

LA was the only team that was able to offer him more than the max 7 year term (prior to July 1).

I think it's a good signing. Lucic might not age great but I think he has 5 real good years left and will make Edmonton a better team.

I would balance the attack and make these lines:

Lucic - McDavid - Yakupov
Pouliot - RNH - Eberle
Maroon - Draisaitl - Puljujarvi
Hendricks - Letestu - Kassian

As Lucic said in his interview after being signed. He really wants to play McDavid. I think McDavid will be attracting a lot more players to come play for the Oilers in the future too.

Ugly term...but if/when he does slow down...we'll deal with that at that point...but for now... the Oilers are a better team...a tougher team to play against....

Now we just need to get that Barrie deal done!!

During much of his time in Boston we saw defenders look over their shoulders to see if he was coming. I saw defensemen act timid when he was throwing big hits. That's the intimidation he CAN bring. For the Oilers sake I hope he does it again.

I don't get into the contours of line combos....but holy hell is our forward group deep. Elite. Probably top-5 in the league.

Just wish our defense could be propelled from bottom-barrel (even with Larsson) to middle-of-the-pack.....

Would not be wise to go in without another defensive upgrade IMO. The forwards will be unreal but that wasn't the issue going into this summer.
