Edmonton is making the right moves. Changing the team. Good signing even if it's way too long and Lucic won't age well. Edmonton can't care about that right now. Just moved the wrong guy. Should have dumped RNH for a d-men, or got a better guy d-man back for Hall. I'm sure Oiler fans just want to compete at this point tho so probably over it.

Hall and Juolevi > Lucic and Larsson.

Maybe?

Have you been paying attention to the Oilers the last 6 years?

When is Juolevi going to be a good NHL defenceman? What have the Oilers achieved by going offense first and developing their own d man during the last 6 years?

The model was not working. The players were not working. Hall could put up points anywhere he plays in the lineup but due to his style of play he had trouble gelling with players. I often said that he still plays like a Junior megasuperstar that is the go to guy on the team. Dont get me wrong it sucks to lose Hall but i think its the best thing for the teams chemistry.

The game is moving away from that kind of stuff though.

Not really, yes Pittsburgh did great but they have Crosby and Malkin, how many teams have those two?

The team coming out of the West was still San Jose, which is a typical big, bad Pacific Division squad.

Since Chia didn't have the opportunity to give Horton his dumpster fire contract he was not about to lose out on that possibility again with Lucic on the market. He's probably got a few good years left then he probably will break down like most other power forwards.

I think they would have preferred to move RNH for Larsson, obviously, but Jersey wasn't having it.

Still ... center depth is impressive with McDavid-Draisaitl-RNH down the middle ... many good teams are built from good center depth and the Oilers still have plenty of offence from the wings (Eberle, Lucic, Puljujarvi coming up, Pouliot, Maroon, maybe Yakupov can even finally get his act together).

c'mon ....you can be happy about the Lucuc signing, but really..

1 for 1? with Hall:laugh:

I did say "close". Hall is better offensively but not by as much as people think. Both took a lot of shots at the net last year and Lucic had a seven point lead in shot percentage. I watched every game with Hall in it last year and saw him kill as many plays as he made. Anyway, it's an opinion, I could be persuaded that I'm wrong.

I think Edmonton makes the playoffs next year.

Like ive been saying for the past year, this years draft was the final one we get a top 10 player. We might not technically make the playoffs this year but we will get 82 points at least.

Not on HF Boards anyways. I tried this a couple of times and the Devils fans blew me right off the thread :(

and you won't find the Leafs winning much either if they don't pony up for one of these guys....oh wait, too late!!

Well to be fair, this is the move you hope puts the Oilers over the top as a playoff team.

The Leafs are still fairly early in their rebuild (only their 1st overall pick compared to your 4 since 2010).

Lucic isn't deterring anyone from anything. Him further rewarding hits to star players with powerplays as a result of his attempts at retaliation has been doing the opposite for a couple years now.

Can't blame NJ. Everyone knew Chia desperately needed a defenseman. He was going to overpay.
