to me none of the deals signed so far today are that bad and all are gambles to some extent with long term and a belief that the player will still be effective by the end of the contract. it's the price all teams have to pay to get the player they want. i'm not worried about what happens 5 years from now.

Decent signing for the Oilers. They desperately needed a player like Lucic. He probably won't age well but they'll be a different team for the next 4 years.

This deal will do wonders for McDavid too.

Hall 65 pts last year, Lucic 55, with Hall playing 2 more minutes per game. Oilers-Kings team offense wasn't that far apart last year, kings only scored 0.23 more goals per game.

Hall shot% 9, Lucic 16, mainly because Lucic goes to the dirty areas and gets the quality opportunities.

Make no mistake, offensively speaking, this is almost a 1-for-1.

Not even close. Hall is a 24 year old star on the rise. Offensively it's a big step back. Lucic brings toughness that the Oilers need but Hall is a great player that will be sorely missed.

Glad they gave him this Clarkson deal.

Guess you missed the part where Clarkson only had one good year and Lucic has been a rock his entire career.

Also the Leafs managed to get out of the only big name UFA signing that they've made in a decade, and one of the worst ones of all time. So why should anyone be worried about it with a much better player?

The points are fine, Lucic brings far more intimidation, size, and mentorship (Stanley Cup winner who can actually play) to the Oilers though, that's a huge difference.

Puljujarvi, Draisaitl, and Nurse in particular can learn a lot about the physical side of things from here.

Okposo's a decent player but he brings few/none of the intangibles Lucic does, Lucic is just a far better fit for Edmonton.

Or that Okposo's stats have been fine (and better than Lucic's) which people just keep ignoring.

Lucic cant hear Okposo because his cup ring is blocking his left ear and hes punching out Okposo with his right fist so Kyles crying is interfering with his hearing in Lucics right ear. :)

I like how two years ago when he was on the Bruins, Oilers fans and the rest of the NHL was saying how he was done, he had no trade value and Bruins are screwed.

This summer on the free market "anyone who signs him over 5 years is crazy. He's done"

Signs with the Oilers - oilers fans "good signing. No signs of wearing down. Will be great!"

Looch was never worth 6 million and still isn't. However, he is a great guy and bring a lot. It's gonna hurt in a few years but hopefully he puts out a few respectable years.

There's definitely some risk, but I think his year in LA showed that there is a big chance that Lucic's Boston decline was really his team's decline. He's probably just a guy who needs the team around him to be good for him to show his worth. He will have some good linemates in Edm. The D is a work in progress but it will be much improved from last year.

pretty much every teams fanbase has been saying Lucic is on the downslide for the last few years but he has continually proven them wrong. make no mistake, most fans would want to sign this guy if they could.

Had the Oilers been offered and accepted a trade involving a top line power winger who gets 10-15 points less annually than Hall and a U25 RHD with flashes of top pairing ability for Hall alone, HF would be praising Chiarelli for his genius. It may have taken an extra couple days for Part 2 of the "trade" to be official, but make no mistake- this was Chiarelli's plan all along.

Lucic is 28, I can understand the gamble.

Lucic, maroon, kassian, Hendricks, nurse, gryba, have fun other teams

I believe the oilers only have yak and ebs below 6 feet now

As a Flames fan, I'm bummed.

Yeah, the term sucks - but who cares, we don't all live forever and this gives Edmonton a better chance at doing real damage in the next 4 years.

The Battle of Alberta is going to be some of the best hockey games of the season again. Finally.

IF you're looking for the Hall/Lucic comparison. Hall is the better player, but Lucic likely makes McDavid and RNH specifically more effective.

Lucic, Maroon, Kassian, and Kharia on the way. Edmonton's not a small team up front.
