Hall is a star player and is better and younger than Lucic. He deserves that money.

Top liners get 6 million. That's the market now- hate the game, not the player.

Chia needed to sign Lucic and had little leverage.

He didn't really "need" to do anything. The fact he essentially traded Hall for Lucic and Larsson, however, makes it a net win for the Oilers. You've yet to explain how it might be otherwise.

The games of those two players were based on speed, they're both very undersized to play the style they did. Lucic is not in that category. He's durable.

He's also incredibly slow at the moment - what happens if he is skating goes? Happens to lots of players as they age....

Lucic 28 signed 7 years (ends age 35)
Eriksson 30 signed 6 years (ends age 36, although he's a couple weeks from 37 here)
Ladd 30 signed 7 years (ends age 37)
Backes 32 signed 5 years (ends age 37)

And btw, Lucic has had a cleaner injury history than these guys. So... why is Lucic the one who will be on the decline? Not to mention he's the best player of this bunch

And Lucic just turned 28, he has atleast 3 good years left and playing with McDavid will help him staying at the same level. Good signing

The trade Hall still BS, but Oilers grab the best player today! This will change the business in town and possibly change everything.

I see the light for the Oilers

Good luck guys! I wish it your turn to shine

Those guys were all far more skilled Han Lucic, they could offset declines in skating ability with puck skill.

I don't think Lucic can do that.
Shane Doan is more skilled than Lucic? At this point in their careers that's just untrue.

Maroon is incredibly slow and he managed to put up 8 goals in 16 games with McDavid. McDavid and Eberle can setup and wait for Lucic to get there.

Yeah! Who needs to worry about cap hit with one of the best players in the league! It's never been a problem for other teams before!

So you know what the cap will be in 5 years?

Its freakin hilarious fans saying the deal sucks because it will be bad 5 years from now.

Props to the Oilers management for having the stones for trying to change culture.

Contract is loaded with signing bonuses apparently, so the last few years could be well below 6 mill in actual salary. NMC is only for the first five years, it's a modified NTC after that.

Contact will look bad in a few years, but it makes the oilers better today. They're likely in a playoff spot after the most recent moves.

Other than term and risk of Lucic breaking down, another risk here is if Lucic and McDavid don't mesh well and are split up. I can bet you that he'll sulk up a storm if he's moved off McDavids line.

Lucic got paid pretty much the same as all the other top free agents and he was THE TOP free agent. Hell Montreal offered more.

They're all terrible deals.

It's Lucic's playing style that has people questioning this one too. He brings in more wear and tear on his body than most players AND he's slow already. These things don't bode well for long term deals

You can look at this both ways. The Oilers are better than they were for the next couple of years.

However, the straight deal for Hall wasn't that great. There should have been more coming back for Hall, and that is pretty much the consensus of many experts.

Lucic/Larsson for Hall is great, but it SHOULD have been Lucic/Larsson+ (or an even better young D-man) for Hall.

Still, if you're in Oiler land, you have to be happy at the moment with the way this team is looking. It's only going to be rough when all the young guys are looking for raises and you have Looch sitting there with his huge hit and terms.
