and yet him signing there was all about McDavid,:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

:laugh::laugh: The Kings traded a ton of draft picks for Lucic and Sekera and lost them both for nothing. You are going to suck for the next 10 years. Enjoy it.

The Lucic deal was one of the better ones signed today, much better than Ladd, Neilsen, and Backes for sure. The Backes one is beyond ridiculous - and Bruins fans were in here laughing. Good for them.

This is simply the price that had to be paid by whichever team wanted this player. It also doesn't look all that bad compared to some of these other deals that have been handed out. This came out early and the critique was pretty harsh but some of these other deals are worse in my mind.

The league has morphed into huge pay days for fa for almost everyone it seems with far too long of terms.

I love the hate, it fills my heart with joy with how much other fans seem to love to talk about the Oilers :D

You know deep down inside this is a good deal hahaha. Great deal after looking at other deals today

It's like laughing at the guy freaking out because he's stuck in traffic. Just gotta smile, shake your head and keep going. The hate will only grow larger.

Best thing you can say is that McDavid will be protected now.

That's worth a lot. Good deal for the next 3-4 years.

After that, we'll see.

7 years is a bit much imo, but great move. The younger players could really benefit a lot from having a guy like Lucic around. Veteran player and the guys an absolute beast. A part of me feels like a lot of it has to do with keep McDavid safe, but solid addition.

Hartnell, 28-29: 82 GP, 49 pts
Hartnell, 30-31: 82 GP, 67 pts
Hartnell, 31-32: 78 GP, 50 pts
Hartnell, 32-33: 77 GP, 60 pts
Hartnell, 33-34: 79 GP, 49 pts

If that's the 'worst' Lucic does in the crucial first years of his new deal, I can easily live with it. I expect 10%+ production solely on the basis of Lucic being a better player offensively and perhaps an extra 10% thanks to McDavid. Years of 58, 80, 60, 70, and 58 points would be right on the money.

Far more importantly, Lucic has won the Stanley Cup and been to the finals yet another time. This was one of the main things we needed and I talked about it in many threads.

We need a UFA defender and UFA forward with cup experience to mentor our kids. True, I would have preferred shorter deals AKA Brian Campbell but beggars cant be choosers.

If he puts up Hartnell totals, that will make it well worth it.

That is not saying much. Most of these deals are brutal.

And I don't hate the Oilers. But I still don't think they're any closer to being a contender than they were a few days ago.

They'll be better, but based on some comparable players, he'll start to break down by the time the Oilers become serious contenders, if they ever do.

It was the perfect storm. Benning, Bergeron and Chiarelli all pursuing Lucic.
The trifecta of lousy GMs. It's like winning the lottery.

Yeah even when the Oilerd dropped 2 spots they still basically won the draft lottery in getting Puli, now they offered less $ to the top forward free agent and he still signed with them.

What team is Bergeron a GM of? Is Neely allowing him to sign UFAs in Boston or something?

This was kind of a dammed if you do, dammed if you don't moment. It's either you pay him and he comes, or you don't and he doesn't.
We'll enjoy him for next 3/4 years and worry about his decline when he actually starts showing it.

Hopefully, he provides some of the veteran leadership long lacking in Edmonton. Term is long, but how often do teams squeeze out of term?

Same with Tyler Seguin, and we all know how your GM felt about him.

Eriksson (age 30) - 6 years x 6 per (will be 36 at contract end)
Lucic (age 28) - 7 years x 6 per (will be 35 at contract end)
Brouwer (31 when season starts) - 4 years x 4.5 per (will be 35 at CE)
Okposo (age 28) - 7 years x 6 per (will be 35 at contract end)

Kinda the same ball park for all these guys.

When Lucic starts to party all night and needs a security guard sitting outside of his hotel room to make sure he doesn't sneak out, and acts unprofessional, we will deal with it. Sometimes culture is more important.
