I'm sure CAL fans(and other fanbases) will be screaming how overpaid he is when he's crushing your players into the boards every shift and being a pest

Eriksson (age 30) - 6 years x 6 per (will be 36 at contract end)
Lucic (age 28) - 7 years x 6 per (will be 35 at contract end)
Brouwer (31 when season starts) - 4 years x 4.5 per (will be 35 at CE)
Okposo (age 28) - 7 years x 6 per (will be 35 at contract end)

Kinda the same ball park for all these guys.

Eriksson is 31 in like a week.

The Edmonton blue print clearly was not working, props to them for trying to shake things up.

Who cares if the contract sucks in 5 years..

I believe San Jose weren't screaming when he was taking constant penalties in the playoffs last season

Chia was backed into a corner after trading Hall. Lucic's agent must have been drooling.

yes because they had a time machine.

The met with Lucic and agreed to terms BEFORE Hall was traded. Then someone leaked it and he had to cry 'bull #@$@' ..........remember?

Haters going to hate.

He's going to have a Dustin Brown/Mike Richards like decline once he hits 30.

Players with his style of game rarely age well, and he doesn't have the puck skills to offset any declines in skating too.

The fact that this contract is essentially buyout proof is just icing on the cake.

Didn't Edmonton offer Clarkson more money than Toronto and he signed with Toronto?

Sometimes the team that doesn't get the player ends up happier :P

You just had to bring up Toronto's only big name free agent signing in the last decade didn't you?

I won't argue with you that MacT was a moron. Glad we have a GM who knows how to win and is committed to winning now.

Yeah! Who needs to worry about cap hit with one of the best players in the league! It's never been a problem for other teams before!

It's not really great at the moment, let along 5 years from now.

Ha he just had 55 points not far off his career high and brings the best combo of skill, toughness in the NHL. Also has a cup ring and will be a leader.

Calgary & Vancouver tears taste great!

I agree... the Canucks hometown boy (Lucic) just chose the Oil and Edmonton over them. Their former answer to said "hometown boy," i.e. Kassian, is also an Oiler - I recall how they used to sing the praises of Kassian. I am really looking forward to watching the two of them rag-dolling the Canucks for the next 5-7 (or more) seasons.

A good article on the Oil and Lucic.

The games of those two players were based on speed, they're both very undersized to play the style they did. Lucic is not in that category. He's durable.

Regardless of contracts and trades that might not set too well with folks, the Oilers are already a better team and I'm sure Chia is not done yet.
