Chiarelli should've traded RNH to NJ for Larsson and not just for Larsson.

Hall still would've been good on Draisaitl's wing.

Only thing that made me mad was the Hall trade.

Do you really think that Chiarelli said to Shero - you know what? You want RNH? Nah, I wanna keep RNH, but I'll give you Hall instead. And I don't want any plusses on that deal either. Just Hall for Larsson straight up.

No. No GMs were valuing the other 6m guys, so to get the help on the back end that the team needed, Hall was made available even though he was the second best player on the team. With Lucic coming in, it takes a bit of the edge off the trade now too.

Oilers are one of the more intimidating teams in the league now. Lucic (6'3), Kassian (6'3), Maroon (6'3), Puljujarvi (6'4), Nurse (6'5) ... I do like like that, in one year they've gone from one of the smaller teams in the league to one of the bigger ones.

You just called Maroon intimidating.

Are you serious?

Oilers now gone from the softest team in the league to one of the toughest in the past year.

Still need to get a 3rd line center and a good PP QB. After that im very happy.

It's a bit less than I expected $ wise. But man that term is making me nervous.

Contract aside I'm excited though.

At least Edmonton is doing something. Lucic will be riding shotgun for McDavid, I assume. Good move, in the short run anyway.

7 years. The back half of that deal is very scary. Glad the Kings didn't sign him to this deal.
True but they can't "Taylor Hall" McDavid. The need to get good quick and not waste the first 6 years of his career while being afraid to make a mistake.

Larsson has actually developed quite the physical game, too, and is 6'3.

Exactly in line with all the other deals for Ladd/Okposo/Backes/Eriksson.

The cost of dipping into free agency this year.

I like the cap hit. Term might be too long by a year or two. But it's what he brings to EDM that's the key here. He instantly makes all those young kids a little bit bigger and a little bit tougher. I think this deal might have the biggest impact on a team than any other this offseason. Congrats EDM.

Replaced a 24 year old star like Hall with a 28 year old Lucic on a terrible contract. Took a step forward defensively with Larson and step back offensively. In the short term it's fairly neutral but in the long term Chia had a very bad week. Having Pulj drop to him takes away a bit of the sting.

They are always at the bottom in terms of GF. Overblown. D is more important. They are net positive right now IMO.

You need to make moves like this to start competing. Worry about the last 2 years if he falls off at that time. 5 years is a long time (Duration of Halls career in EDM)

The league is moving away from the tough stuff anyway. It's all about speed these days.

And yet one of the slowest skaters in the league in Maroon could still pot 14P in 16GP with McDavid. Even if Lucic slows down with his skating (which no one can prove will happen), he can still play with Connor McDavid and probably produce at a 1st or 2nd line level at the end of the contract.

It's about balance. Speed, skill, size and physical play. It's why LA has been so successful. Lombardi always puts size in the line and shutdown defencemen paired with pmd.

Do you watch the news? He turned down 5 years from LA. He wanted term all along. UFA's like him don't take a couple years.

He will be a factor in Edmonton improving. Worry about the last 2 or so years down the road.

You wouldn't have gotten Shero to part with Larsson unless it was an overpayment. He really liked Larsson.

Not the best contract but I've been wanting a player like Lucic on the Oilers for years now. Hopefully he can be worth $6M per year for at least the next 4-5 years.
