Ill take wild guess now and say mcdavid signs for 8 x 15 after seeing this deal...

Not bad if cap keeps rising
My guess will be 16+. The window will be very difficult to pull off with some albatross contracts on the book in Nurse and eventually Bouchard (unless he really projects upward defensively).

They always said Drai and McDavid will take up about 30 mill combined… looking like it could end up like that next offseason when McDavid signs his next deal
Crushes the hopes and dreams of every other team hoping to get one at ufa now.

I wouldn't be surprised if teams would have lined up 15 Or 16 for Draisaitl a year.

Cap goes up 5%+ for McDavid and him being worth far more than Draisaitl. Curious what Edmonton ends up paying. 16 or 17 million probably.

A good problem to have though.

It's not a steal in any way. It's fair market value. The equivalent would've been him getting 16M on the open market next summer. Would that have been a steal?
Yes, if you get a player of his calibre for “free” on the open market, it’s a steal regardless of how much you pay.

Seems like a good deal but unless they can jettison some dead weight contract the team will basically be rolling back the same team year over year with these contract extensions keeping them up against the cap with what they got. Will depend on how Bouchard's contract goes and if any of the remaining ELC type players can step up and produced results.

Either way Draisaitl is a fantastic player and you gotta keep him.

A lot of money

If he lives up to this deal he will likely end a top 10-15 player all time

He needs to continue to be a top 3-5 player for the next 5 years which will be a lot to ask for as a 30 year old when he starts the deal

Interested to see how he ages and if he can keep up his incredible prime and playoff production over his career.

Mcdavid likely take 16M x 8

When McDavid signs for 15 AAV and Bouchard 12, how exactly are they going to fill out their depth?
Cheap vets chasing Cups. That'll work for at least another 4-5 years while McD and Drai are in their primes.

They'll also need to start keeping their picks and drafting better. Having roster players on rookie deals is gold.

Well I guess. By this definition, there are no overpaid contracts in this league because there was a team willing to give up said contract, thus a guy like Nick Nurse is absolutely making fair market value because that's what Edmonton decided to give him.
