It's hard to know what Bouch is going to get. Most didn't think Rasums Dahlin would pull in 11M either, but that's the reality of the world we are in. 10M for Bouchard is probably the minimum we are looking at for him.
Litereally this a player can easily ask for much more as a defender because it's a premium. Bouchard is in the talks of coffee during his playoff run not many defenders can put that on their resume. 10-11 is easily foreseeable. Oilers be smart to try to sign him to an extension ASAP or with the salary increasing the demand be higher.

This is a credit to the cap system.

If you are going to have two elite players who play the same position, it's going to inevitably be a handicap to building a full roster. You just can't have a true super team anymore

I'm not sure if I agree. After the playoff and regular season that Bouchard just had, the only other things he could do to increase his stock are a Norris trophy, even higher point output next year, or a Stanley Cup. Doing what he did last year over again probably doesn't raise his stock much, if at all.

On the other hand, if he sees a regression in points down to, say, 60 points or so, that could give the Oilers some leverage to negotiate him down a bit. I think this is one of the few scenarios where waiting it out might be the better option.

How ironic, every one laughed and said Draisaitl was gone right after this contract expired lolol. Now that he has signed and for 8 years at that the narrative changes and now its to much money and how can the oilers compete now. Next chance hf never change
That's not been the narrative at all.
More like oilers fans emphatically stating he would sign for around 13, while everyone else said not happening while pointing out you guys will have 50 million tied up on four players.

So much for setting cap aside to win and no I don't care if he would have gotten more as a UFA, those aren't 8 year deals with a dozen teams driving up the price.

Nor do I care if Nate with inflation would be similar, one Nates a superior player and 2nd when he signed it was 100% known exactly where the cap was heading.

Sorry to rain on the parade but when you have probably the best player in history when all is said and done, you should be able to build a dynasty around that one player. The haul you guys could have got if your GM had the balls to trade #29 with an 8 year extension in place could have finally given #97 a complete team opposed to one with arguably the worst defense of any team with playoff aspirations.

I guess time will tell .

At the end of the day - how often does an organization have two of the top 5 players in the league? When that happens - IMO the organization has to do EVERYTHING possible to maximize the chances of winning a Cup. That's what the Oilers are doing. Will this hurt later? Probably, but that's why it's important to win to make that pain worthwhile.

Does anyone think that the Leaf's won't be in the same situation with Matthews? He'll be UFA when his contract ends at 30, and they'll almost certainly extending him until he's past his prime.

Organization's don't have the ability to wait until everything lines up exactly perfectly. Sometime that happens (Kuch/Point/Vasy busting out simultaneously, Makar being instantly elite and joining NM/GL/MR), but you can't count on that. Each team tries to make the best of the situation that they're in. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. This is the OIlers trying to make it work, and good on them.

Good signing by the Oil. When you are trying to win now, you do not care how this contract ages.

The only drawback is that the Oil will have roughly half their cap devoted to just four players after Bouchard and McD are signed.

But they may win the Cup in this window...and to Oil fans that is all that matters.

That is a lot for a great player who is an even 5v5 player and gets a lot of points on the PP.

Just an opinion, but I don't see this contract aging well.
My man, he is top 4 in the last 5 years for even strength points lol

Also facts...

"In the last 3 Playoff seasons Leon ranks:Points: 81 (2nd)Goals: 30 (T-1st)Assists: 51 (2nd)PPG: 15 (1st)"

and 1st in GA.

I am simply saying this contract might age badly and people are getting upset.

A player who is approaching the end of his prime (most likely) is signing an 8 year contract at a very large AAV.

That's a ridiculous statement. We have a hole on our 2nd pair, right side. Other than that, our defense matches up very well.
