So much for all the talk of the players all taking discounts to win.
Front loaded, full NMC, it's probably buyout proof with bonuses too.
I approve of this deal, now give McD 16+ and Bouch 10+ please.

Whether in your subjective opinion he is specifically number 2 or not is completely irrelevant; he is clearly in the highest echelon of elite talent in the league.

I always find it so bizarre when people feel the need to laugh at someone for making a reasonable statement just because it doesn't fit with the narrative in their heads.

Because he is clearly not number 2.

It is as subjective as not calling McDavid number 1.

You can argue it, but it clearly isn't true.

They have added guys like Jarventie, Savoie, Emberson fairly recently and managed to draft in first round this year as well. Thing to note is that they dont really need any of these guys to develop into a top 6 player but only middle 6 forward\ bottom pairing D.

edit: Podkolzin was an add as well
I'd argue that we do need these guys to become top six. Of course not all need to, but there will come a day where we will need to demote someone like Nuge or Hyman. 31 and 32 years old, so they should be good but are at the age where a non elite forward can start to decline in a hurry. We might be seeing that with Kane

Their prospect pool is still rated really low though. One of the worst. It’s going to be an issue eventually.
we have been on the other side as well with Hall, Omark, Eberle, Nuge , Schultz, Yakupov as prospects. Its not going to be a huge issue as long as we have Hyman, Nuge, McD, Drai in top 6 and guys like Arviddson, Brown, Skinner, Henrique willing to take paycuts to play here.

Oilers should have considered paying Leon $13M per playoff goal like the Leafs do, I think they made a big mistake here

He shows up when it matters, that is for sure!

I wonder how it would be if hfboards users ran teams. No one over 25 allowed on the team, never re-sign anyone cause every contract is too much. Main goal is to be a top prospect pool ranking team.

I'd draft a young core of around the same age and sign them to 8 year deals in their RFA contract, but I would never sign anyone UFA or otherwise that would cover any year from 30-Jagr.

If your core hasn't done it by 30, it's time to restart again.

Of course that would mean being a lifetime GM, in a league where the average GM job lasts 3-4 years.

I dislike your team , but I always enjoy reading your posts. And I respect it

I dont get the fans complaining this deal was a no brainer for Edmonton hes a top 3 player in the world we all knew he was gonna get paid no big difference between 13.5 and 14 atleast Oilers get Drai locked up for all his prime
They already had him locked up for all his prime.

What age is a player's prime usually?
Usually 24-29, but because Leon is so profoundly productive, him "washed" is good for a top 20 point leader. Players peaking in their early 30s isn't unheard of either. Guys like Panarin, Ryan NH, Kadri.. etc..

Bottom line, peak or not, Leon Draisaitl will likely be a great player for many more years. That's all that matters when competing for a cup.

That is a lot for a great player who is an even 5v5 player and gets a lot of points on the PP.

Just an opinion, but I don't see this contract aging well.

No way Bouchard gets 10-12 mill unless he wins a Norris. I can see 8-9 mill. But anything at 10 and over is a bit much
It's hard to know what Bouch is going to get. Most didn't think Rasums Dahlin would pull in 11M either, but that's the reality of the world we are in. 10M for Bouchard is probably the minimum we are looking at for him.

Yeah I disagree strongly with that. No team has won without some cheap high impact young players. After two years when all the pricey contracts kick in I just don’t think that structure works.
