I wish we could have got something more for him. I don't know much about Patrik Puistola. His numbers seem decent in Liiga, hopefully he can make it in the NHL. Getting the 3 mill in cap space is nice lets hope they spend it wisely.....
Essentially we got nothing for him. Its a straight up cap dump of a player that was coming off the books anyway. We got a guy that has never played an NHL game and maybe never will. Not sure if Holland even checked out willingness to come to NA box.

But you did ignore the 329 games Larsson played for the Oilers. Why?

Honesty is a good thing.

That is a far more honest assessment of what the Oilers traded those three players.

You do understand that Larsson played 329 games for the Oilers I hope.
I think what he meant when he posted that is that's what we have left from those trades. That's how I read it at least

I'm honestly glad the Jesse saga is over. I wish him all the best in Carolina, since I watch their games quite a bit, I'll see how this change of scenery will turn out for him.
The return doesn't seem bad, Puistola may turn into something down the road..

Your research ignores 329 games played by Adam Larsson to begin with. Get better research.
I'm not sure citing Larsson's meager contribution here outside of one season is really much of a counter. Larsson the rest of his time was exhibit A for not wanting to be here and not doing much. I would have been fine with the level he's consistently bringing in Seattle. For whatever reason he wasn't interested in doing that here.

I like how all the trade headlines are the Oilers traded Pulju for Pisstool from Carolina. As if we've traded for an actual NHL player. How much do the Oil pay for this kind of windowdressing. The player is not playing for Carolina and hasn't played a game there. I don't know the player has ever even visited there lol. For sure I've never heard of him.

So that we trade a top in hits team guy, actual NHL player, for a smurf that likely never even see's an NHL jersey and is playing for some nondescript team in Finland hardly anybody has heard of. Surprised they managed to find a photo..;)

This guy doesn't seem to realize Oilers were desperate to create cap space and bring in a player of higher impact. Holland better not fk this up now that he has some decent cap space to work with. Find Yams a new home too while he's at it.

Player hasn't wanted to be here for years and Woodcroft clearly isn't a fan of the player.

He would be gone regardless of the number he was getting paid on his contract. If he was making 1.5 mill or less, it would have just facilitated a trade long before now.
I was speaking more about his play relative to his pay. I agree that if he wanted out a lower salary would have made this easier. Had he signed for the $2M @Drivesaitl mentioned He probably would have been very easy to move in the previous off season.

Good luck with Canes mighty Bison! Have a feeling he will tear it up with a fresh start among well playing country men. Context means a lot for Pulj!

He's not entirely wrong though. Essentially this is worse than STL tossing Kostin for a non NHLer. Its the same nature of trade. That Holland painted himself into this corner is his own doing.
I wouldn't say there will be any giant rebound but I expect Pulju will contribute more in Carolina and on a properly coached club that actually recognizes and utilizes players strengths adequately.

I say this is worse because the Oilers are in a contending position and can use depth like Pulju. Blues were in a nothing position and rebuild anyway.

It is absolutely a counter. That was an absolute lose lose trade for both teams. Devils fans could say that Hall's contribution was meager outside one season. Hall's stolen Hart season was his only really good season for the Devils.

Does say the Devils "essentially" got Dawson Mercer for Adam Larsson make sense?

The Oilers "essentially" have no assets left from the Gretzky trade. So what?

At least you are being honest in the fact the Larsson did play here.

Pulju is around top 50 in forward hits in NHL despite getting limited minutes. The likelihood that the Oilers find somebody to do that other than Kostin is slim to nil. He's really the only other forward that even brings that package on the whole club.

We just got even easier to play against. Meanwhile we have a smurf like Yama playing 20mins a night making the topsix shorthanded any time he's out there.
My complete sentiments. I'm convinced that Jesse will fit in just nicely in Carolina., pulling for him, would of preferred to have seen Yama gone, I'm pretty sure he's next, if not in the coming days, he should be bought out at season's end

For sure, I believe he'll fit into the Canes system than with us.

It's yet to be determined what Holland will do with that cap space.. so until then we can't really judge from our end, but from Canes perspective they did good.

Nothing I said was wrong though. We need the cap space.. that's not even a debate.

I like Jesse - I hope he does well in Carolina. He's unfortunately not a 3mil winger right now and I think he will reinvent himself in Raleigh as well. Hopefully being with Aho can help him find his scoring touch back. Wish him all the best.

Now for the love of god Holland, get a serviceable defenseman.

Nothing against what you've said. reasonable view. You're not wrong in any way. Neither was the article.

Today I'm not feeling upbeat. I try do. But kind of deflated today.

Is it? No one wanted Pulju for more or we would have gotten more. We can better use Puljujarvis cap than a guy who plays sub 10 minutes.

Bear was worse in Carolina than he was here so he could easily be worse there.

Holland offered to resign Pulju and he said no. Rather him clear space and bring in a defender than have a “good” player that plays 9 minutes a night holding up 3 mill of cap.

I don't think anyone is kidding themselves. The OIlers traded for cap space without having to give up a draft pick. That's the real story.

Let's be honest, some of those "analysts" are not much brighter than your average hf poster..
I'm surprised by the "Jesse will finally break out" crowd though, as much as I like the bison king, he's not going to be more than a solid bottom6 dude in the NHL.

That article suggests it was a comical trade from us. It clearly isn't in terms of context. We've essentially freed ourselves of 3M worth of cap space to make an upgrade to the roster.. how is that comical?

Mind you we didn't pay to dump him and nothing was lost in the trade. We literally gained cap space and that is more important to us for the TDL. That player we got back is an afterthought.

They act like he never played with McDavid
