Surprisingly I have. Jesse got to play with Aho against the Devils. Canes played poorly, Jesse's performance and instant (old) chemistry with Aho was probably the only bright spot for the Canes. Created some changes, went hard to the net, but had his "Bambi" moments also. NJ is just a very good hockey team right now.

He seems to be "struggling" right now. Any idea how hes defensively?

Only 10:26 TOI for Puljujarvi tonight. Third lowest among forwards. Still had over a minute on the PP. But thats a big drop off from where his ice time has been. In spite of the limited ice time he led all forwards with 4 muffins on goal.

Well where are the JP fans now? It's crickets right now
I won’t revel in the kid’s failures. Besides, there’s still hockey to be played. I believe he’s a better player than he’s shown so far in this league. Maybe a full year playing with some countrymen who can teach him how to adapt to the NHL in words he can understand will change things for him. But like you say, some of his fans were quite a ways over the top. I find it irritating when fans take a super hard line stand on a player and then disappear when things don’t go like they’d staunchly predicted. No reason to take such a hard stance on most players imo. The NHL is a tough league to perform in. Only the really elite can deliver season after season.

He had so many chances playing on the top line and rarely showed that he belonged there. His history of wanting to be traded is laughable at that age. He finally got what he wanted and surprise surprise he doesn't have a single point in 6 games.

I'm not cheering for him to fail, he's more than capable of doing that on his own.

Jesse will carve out some NHL role. He seems like the prototypical Oiler that failed then goes to another team and eventually figures out that they aren't the player they thought they were.

In Jesse's case he will find himself on a 3rd or 4th line forechecking. Might play around with 10 goals a season on average. But on the other side he might just go back home depending on the money,

Good person at heart but still struggling to find that role he needs to play.

Being right about a player always feels so unsatisfying. Years of debating that Pulju simply is not that good of a player and now that he is seemingly on his way out of the league there is just no satisfaction in that at all. Never want or wish for any player to fail. Still unsure how seemingly only Jarmo saw the flaws in this player though. Although I do wonder if there were more teams than CBJ at the time that would've passed on him at #3.

Too bad that hes struggled to the point that he has. Thought he would do a bit better on Carolina then he has. That being said hes only played 6 games but he hasnt done anything with them. Might need a reset over the summer. I hope for his sake that he can get a contract for next year assuming he still wants to play in the NHL (it would likely be a minimum contract at this point). I think he can still be a bottom 6 player if he wants to be.

Dustin Nielson, Lowetide, Whyme & Kaptah says its Yamos fault.
I've never ever said it's Yamos fault and in fact I haven't even written much at all about him. Easy to imagine how excited you must feel right now, I almost felt bad for you when JP was doing fine in the Oilers and you had to disappear for a while. If I were you I certainly wouldn't blame others for being excited about a player's failure. But plenty of decent posters in this thread, glad to see that anyway.

We had Chia. Too f***ing lazy to properly scout all possible players and then he thought he won the lottery when JP got skipped by Jarmo even though they were dead set on Sergachev

It's probably crickets because he's on another team now haha. Pulju's detractors seem to be more obsessed with him than his fans.

I keep expecting Puistola updates when I open this thread, but I should know better.

I don't agree with the people who are patting their backs about being right about JP. He did for some extended periods show he could be a competent Top 9 forward. He also has played the majority of his time as an effective forechecker with zero offensive confidence. Not surprised he is struggling in Carolina and still hope he figures it out.

he's a perfect example of the math not matching the eye test
Not really. It's more of an example of some people not understanding how to actually interpret the numbers.

Both sides had people who for some reason thought the higher xGF% a player has, the better they are, but in reality it's just a simple metric for possession. That was the one thing Pulju did well. He gained a bunch of extra possessions for McDavid. Unfortunately he sucked at everything else.

I doubt people are happy that JP is failing. It's more about throwing back into the face of his supporters IMO

Please. JPs legions were insufferable. I’m glad they got a smack of reality.
