Always so happy....but that f***ing helmet.
To be fair I don't think any helmet manufacturer has ever had to design a helmet for a head of that proportion.

You'd think he would have had one custom designed by now that he could just put new logo stickers on when he moves from continent to continent and league to league and team to team.

He will skate around, shoot the odd puck right at the goalie, get very few points and likely be out of the NHL in a few years. If you can't make it on the best player in the worlds line I don't think his chances are good.

he's actually played pretty well

I wouldn't say that. The NJ game, he shot right into a goalies chest as usual.
The rest of the game, despite looking like he was skating hard, he was getting nothing accomplished. He fell a bunch of times which if he would of actually stayed up, he could have made a play.
His best play was the diving pass that lead to a scoring chance

He definitely looks like he's putting in effort, but falling down constantly doesn't equate to looking good

I hope we can resign Puistola. He's a UFA after this season. Will he even come over and play?

I've read a few media articles, players' comments and Carolina's fans comments and it seems clear he's looked good in these games. However, I think it's way way early to say where it will go. On the other hand he's not an Oiler anymore and it was time to let Puljujarvi go. If he does well that'll actually get some props to the Oilers in my eyes as trading him to Carolina was a fair move by Holland. It's possible agents and other teams players notice things like this which would be a small plus to the Oilers.

It's going to be interesting up until yesterday I don't know that Carolina management had massive expectation from the guy. They had room for the guy cap wise and knew he was decent just might not put up points.

Now with Svechnikov hurt I wonder if there will be more pressure.

I just think if the guy couldn't score with McDavid and Draisaitl, how is he going to all of a sudden start scoring in CAR. I hope he does, but I have trouble seeing the path. Chemistry is big and there is a chance he finds it. I would be happy if he carved out a nice career in Raleigh.

That's true but I don't think anyone expects JP go fill Svechnikov's shoes. But if he plays in his place there will be pressure for results. He did pretty well and maybe should've got some points in the first game with Aho, but at some point there will have to be results no matter how well you do.

I watched the entire NJ game. I think he did well, a lot better than he's played for Edmonton for a long time

like I said he looks a lot more assertive for some reason so he was going hard to the net and actually trying to take shots and stuff instead of just deferring

that Pass to Aho was beautiful too

if he was doing as poorly as you're saying here, I doubt the coach would've kept him on Aho's line. He fit nicely there

But yes he has a bad shot, nothing is going to change that

I'm not suggesting he fill a guy like Svechnikov's shoes, however help fill the void along with others is what they'll need.

He did score with McDavid and Drai, but was extremely unconsistent with his on off periods. However, you may be right in that he's had a long cold period so we'll see how it goes in Carolina. Glad many (like you) over here wish him the best, after all he did his best in the Oilers but it wasn't leading anywhere and it was time to move him.

I mean Edmonton has a perfect storm of centers when you throw RNH in there too.

Not sure if it was just a fresh start being needed or what. Be interesting to see what happens with him this year and next.

So he's doing what he did here pretty much.

We should look at this way. If we don't move JP, we don't get Ekholm

You won't get an impartial take from bobby as I'm sure you feel about me too.

Cost for Ekholm was quite high as Barrie had some value as a high scoring defender. I wouldn't be surprised if a 40-60 point defender could've even fetched a 1st or at least a 2nd round pick.

Schaefer was a late 1st round pick so it's a matter of taste if one sees him as a slightly failed pick by the Oilers or as equal to a 1st round pick.

In the extreme the cost for Ekholm could've been three 3st round picks and a bit more. At lowest something like a 1st and two 2nd round picks. So the price was quite high, but if he makes the Oilers a clearly better team in these few years I guess it was worth it. I will follow this a bit more before making my judgement, but you're right in that without moving JP it wouldn't have been possible to get Ekholm.

Foegele is starting to finally play up to his contract.

Yamamoto is not. I wouldn't lose any sleep if Yamo was traded for a more effective use of our limited cap space.
Foegele has been really good for most of the season.
Yamo is a much better player than we are seeing right now. I dont think that he has recovered fully from his injury. That said I do think it would be wise to trade him in the off season.

Both Foegele and Yamamoto do more than goal score. They PK too and our Centres like playing with them because they get to pucks first and know what to do with it when they get it

That's what Yamo can do when he's healthy and feeling good. Unfortunately he's never healthy or feeling good.

He makes too much money in our cap situation to risk him missing half the year, or effectively missing the whole year because he's playing banged up when he does play. $3M is too much to allocate to a player that you can't rely on to actually play.

Surprisingly I have. Jesse got to play with Aho against the Devils. Canes played poorly, Jesse's performance and instant (old) chemistry with Aho was probably the only bright spot for the Canes. Created some changes, went hard to the net, but had his "Bambi" moments also. NJ is just a very good hockey team right now.

All I see there is a great goaltending performance by Vanecek. Guy put on a clinic. You’ll notice he’s way more aggressive than our guys in the highlights.

Being able to communicate effectively with your line mates helps immensely. How many Finns on that Carolina team? How many on the Oilers?

We should have taken Sergachev in that draft like I wanted, but it is what it is.
