No reason the coach started Savoie as a winger in his first 2 games at the Rookie Tournament. Put an 18 year old newcomer as the C on Savoies line. I'd say this coach is canned by Mid December.
Savoie is not going to be a top 6 center as long as McDrai are here. He is being transitioned to the wing, may as well start that at a lower level and see how he does with it.

It's easier to dominate at C in the pro league then get transitioned to the W, then to be a natural C, in a new environment , dont get to play and Dominate as a C and immediately be transitioned to the W. Confidence out the door. Terrible prospect Development tactics. Not even letting the guy get a feel for the game from His natural position has fail written all over it. Edmonton's prospect development team is as inept as it gets.

He'd probably produce in the top 6 here. That's where he put up points. Biggest problem was he was a churchmouse in the playoffs (consistently) to the point of being actively bad, which makes him a perfect Sabre.

McLeod is a perfectly fine regular season player, maybe even a pretty good regular season player. But is absolutely ALLERGIC to physical contact. You can't win with that player in the playoffs. When you consider that we needed to shed salary, and got back a pretty decent young player (who likely never becomes the player McLeod is truthfully), and 'm still perfectly fine with the deal.

Glad he is playing well for the Sabres, I've always liked McLeod as a person, seems like a good guy.

The prototypical perimeter player.

He was traded because we needed to free up money
to bad Skinner has turned out as a 4th liner

It’s just unfortunate that we replaced him with an equally perimeter player in Skinner.

Shoulda been an Oiler for life. Shoulda kept him around like we shoulda kept Cogliano around to be that speedy 2-way 3C that did his best work for other teams.

I get it though. He had an inconsistent year and doesn’t hit enough. But neither do the Knob Hockey Oilers in general. We were bottom 4 in the entire playoffs for hits/60, we still made it to the Cup finals. McCleod is gone and we are still the lowest hits/60 in the entire league this year while still being one of the best defensive teams in the League. Listen to Knob when asked about hits and he downplays its importance saying better teams with high puck possession usually don’t hit much. McCleod was very effective defensively despite the lack of physicality. He might not hit but his literally best-in-the-League speed always had him in the right positions and he was a responsible and effective 2 way player. I’d say his Speed more than makes up for a lack of physicality, and for a team that McDavid describes as being at their best when they play fast, it was a perplexing decision to me to move on from McCleod.

I did like Henriques game in the playoffs though. I would describe it as crafty, smart, and grittier than expected. I could see the Oilers preferring Henrique over Mcleod based on that performance. But the kicker is age regression and progression. Henriques at an age where he’s likely to downtrend as a player, and Mcleod is at the age where he’s likely to improve as a player. Then there’s the $1M difference in salary between the two as well.

Savoie can make it all worth it though. But he has to make it as a Top 6 player worthy of his draft status. That’s not a guarantee to happen.

I know the doomers want to start some victory laps, but maybe let's wait until McLeod doesn't have a 36% shooting percentage and 14.29% onSH%.

For context on how silly those numbers are, Jeff Skinner would have 16 goals with that SH% and the Oilers would have double the goals for with Draisaitl on the ice if he had that onSH%.

Savoie will develop into a good player, just give him 40 games in the A. Then bring him up and stick him on Draisaitls wing, throw Podkolzin out of here. Or replace him with RNH on 97s line and drop RNH down to Draisaitls line... and you guessed it. Get Podkolzin the fxxx out of here

I find it odd how some on here endlessly pump Savioe’s tires, friend/relatives perhaps. The guy is pretty much fresh out of junior, and has a way to go to he a NHL regular. Not saying anything bad about the player, he’s tracking well just some are putting the cart far ahead of the horse. How many skilled prospects flop? Lots, not say Savoie will just some need to take 20% off the top.

Same goes for those casting McLeod off as garbage, just because he doesn’t hit. He is what he is but did a lot of other things well including killing penalties. Will be missed a lot once Henrique is gone or if he doesn’t find his usual game.

Its never too soon for him to be negative.

Must be a fun way to live life.
I havent been following his posts but his take on Skinner is way premature.
Its so obviously premature that I am surprised that he even bothered to post that.

Maybe your assessment is right.

McLeod was a problem in the playoffs.
So was Eberle for one playoffs.
Just like with Eberle I think that the team made a mistake trading McLeod when they did.

Even though I dont for a second beleive that Skinner is a 4th liner I would much rather have his money used for Foegele. So that IMO was another dropped ball by Oilers management.

I think Eberle learned to add some sandpaper to his game after he left.

I don’t believe McLeod will.

I’m not someone who dislikes McLeod but his weaknesses are a problem when the games get more difficult.
