It'd be a lot more than Juulsen and a pick + dump for Edler. A LOT MORE. He's a top pairing #2 dman who is only 30 with term and an extremely reasonable cap hit. A regressed d prospect is closer to a throw in than it is a centrepiece.

Oh dear, I guess Edler won't be a Hab. The horror! The horror!

So a Montreal fan makes a low ball proposal for the Canucks #1 dman - maybe not a number 1 on every team, but unquestionably the Canucks #1 for the past 5 years. But vancouver fans are idiots for wanting a big return. I'm also sick of people who don't watch Edler giving assessments of his play. He's 29 not aging, he's a solid all around dman. Don't want to pay the price for a teams #1, don't ask

Mtl would need to dump a contract in order to make this possible.

And yes, i would absolitely make Juulsen available.

Juulsen + 2017 1st or Scherbak+ Emelin or Desharnais

for

Edler

Juulsen would be the + in a deal for Edler. His value is lower than when he was drafted. He was a late riser in the draft and had a down post draft year.

I'm not as high on Sergachev as a lot of people seem to be, but i'd still absolutely take Sergachev and a top-60 pick or quality prospect for Edler. Throw in Emelin to make the cap work, and add some value for MTL dumping that contract.

Vancouver's blueline would be...pretty awful for a couple years. But that's the type of package that would make me seriously think about moving Edler right now.

Habs fans may scoff at that...but Edler is a 30 year old top-pairing defenceman on a really solid value contract $5MAAV. They ain't cheap. :dunno:

Even if the Canucks do rebuild thats a brutal deal. Serg slipped down that far for a reason and him plus a mid pick for Edler just doesnt cut it. Maybe if they have a solid d prospect or LW prospect plus next years 1st id consider it but unfortunately Benning aint rebulding anyways so kinda doesnt matter :(

Edler for Sergachev++ would give us great defensive prospect depth.

2017 1st + Juulsen and I'd be interested. Despite his concussion issues I really like Juulsen as a prospect, love his shiftiness and quick movement on the ice.

It's not saying much when Edler is our #1 defensemen. He's always needed a reliable partner, and whenever paired without one (Bieksa) he struggles. Not too mention, he's not even our top defensemen anymore, and he is on a decline, whether you want to admit it or not.

Montreal would be better off to wait and see if Price is capable of returning to jebus mode before throwing away picks and prospects for a vet.

Not a single player Id value at 80% of Taylor Hall's value in here. So no Montreal. Go pettle your crap elsewhere.
Don't like the price on top pairing defenders? Don't trade them for older less top end talent ones.

Exept Larsson is better, younger, and cheaper then Edler. There is no way Edler is worth a top line player, MAYBE an average 2nd liner? That's about it. He's not a 1st pair D-man

Edler is currently better than Larsson. He's a legit top-pairing D who is good in all three zones.

Age gap and potential definitely work in Larsson's favour value wise, though.

The Canucks have gone all-in while the Sedins are still great. They aren't going to sell off a win-now player like Edler unless they get a player back who will help them climb the standings this coming season. Selling Edler for a young guy wound not only waste the Sedins. It would waste seasons of their other veterans who are all ticking down, as well as their new guys in Eriksson and Gudbranson. They are going for the cup.

Edler isn't valued around the league like the Canucks value him. IMO he's on a great contract for what he brings to the table. If I'm a GM I hang onto him if people don't see his value. Defensemen do grow on trees after all.
