Why is Montreal involved as a 3rd team?
Or why are NYR involved as a 3rd team?
Or why are Kings involved as a 3rd team?

I’d trade him for Juraj one for one
Montreal politely decline this offer.

Slafkovsky at 19 and 20 years old is putting up similar seasons than Byfield did at 21 and 22 respectively. I’d rather take my chances on the younger player which still have more time (than Byfield) to develop

Byfield and slaf are pretty comparable 1 for 1 and byfield is a slightly cheaper cap hit

Why in the world would the Kings trade the player who is taking the reins from Kopitar? It would need to be an insane overpay for them to do that.

The problem with trading this guy now is, first we already lost several years of Stutzle-level production and a kajillion assets for filling the hole with guys like PLD and Fiala and we can't get that back; and second, he's always been known as needing years before that elite offensive package comes out. In the meantime, he isn't exactly on his way to being a Selke candidate.

So either we keep him on his inflated contract and keep hoping or we send him elsewhere and possibly watch him turn into an all-star that we paid so much for and got 5 cents on the dollar after sacrificing 80% of the franchise's future.
Drafting Byfield over Stutzle, missing out on Eichel because the team didn't want to include Byfield, and then going out and blowing a bunch of assets on PLD, is an all time blunder series of events

Montreal gets the best player here.

Id take Slaf over Byfield (barely), but it's the Rags getting screwed there

He had better start producing more than ~20g/55pts if they plan on him being a Kopitar replacement….

If Clarke could be moved for a comparable center, I'd love to do something around Byfield & Dobson.

Without a Clarke trade I'd still love this from a strictly value POV, but having 3 stud RD just makes 0 sense
Wish we had a comparable center. I'd love to find a way to pair Dobson with something for Clarke and Byfield

As a Wild fan, I’d love to take a flier on him.

Seems like he doesn’t fit in LA or is a fringe NHLer?
He’s got pretty decent NHL talent but just hasn’t been able to put the scoring touch together. I’d pass on him.

Edit - just realized this is an old thread.

Yeah they’re pretty similar as their stats suggest but one is two years younger so I would personally give the edge to the younger guy who has (technically) still more room to grow.

there are many specifics to be met prior to any deal with la:
gotta be the right agent pat brisson
gotta have french canadian roots or at least like poutine
gotta have history (romantic or otherwise) with marc bergevin
gotta be a player that cant score or adequately defend himself or defend his teamates
gotta be a player that cant be developed using 1970's development techniques
gotta be a deal that costs lots of picks and multiple above average players

and these are only some of the conditions that are in effect for dealing with the kings GM, president and primary consultant lovingly referred to as the three stooges.
so it aint easy dealing with the three stooges but your return will be beyond your wildest dreams. just ask bill guerin and kevin cheveldaeoff- kings GM rob blake still bleeding, cant walk or even stand upright after dealing with those guys.

Kings aren't trading Byfield. And if they were to trad him, it would be part of a package for an already established superstar player.

He's a good NHL player right now and has the potential to absolutely explode within the next 2-3 years.

It's been frustrating as you'd definitely expect a 2OA pick to have 'arrived' by now - But he's still a solid player and his defensive game in particular is very good.

I really do believe the points will start to come. You see flashes with Byfield that prove he has a ton of skill and his skating is exceptional especially for a player of his size. He just needs to put it all together and start playing with confidence consistently. Sometimes it can take a bit longer for players of Byfield's size to really find their stride - I still believe he could be an 80-90+ point player in a few years.

He's also been much better since being put on a line with Fiala and Laferriere. Kings would be VERY dumb to trade him but then again Rob Blake is our GM so nothing is impossible

Nope, Slafkosky in MTL for Lafreniere is a no go.

The guy is more than 2 years younger and is at the same point in his development curve.

Plus he has the enticing combination of physical tools/talent that is so rare.

The french Canadian factor won't make it for the Habs in this case.

I'm sure a smart guy like Hughes won't fall for that trap..

...disagree...I'd take Byfield and Slaf over Laf every day and twice on Sunday...right now, as a Habs fan, Byfield would be my first choice and the Kings fanbase should be happy you have him...
