You serious bro?IMO this looked far more injury-causing than what Pasta did.

haha, wow. They going to fine every 4min penalty now?
As someone who really doesn't care about either team in the least, I'd like to think my opinion on the matter is slightly less biased than yours.Yeah I think we’ll have to agree to disagree on that, I’m not sure how that’s injury-causing in the slightest. And Raanta reacted in an "injured" way to the Pasta hit, and barely even acknowledged the skateby. But we’re looking at the same thing so there’s not a lot else to discuss.

FWIW, Dave Jackson, ESPN's ref analyst, thought it was more than an errant stick because of how he turned the angle of the blade on the second whack. This occurred post-Lindholm hit.
I'm not saying anything about right or wrong, but as a non-biased observer I'd like to think I can see things more objectively than someone more emotionally involved. I'm not saying I'm better at observing or know the game better. There is no arguing the point other than we have a different perception of the aftermath but the truth is neither of us know the damage nor the root cause. This is what you say when you can’t actually argue the point. But also - I’m already on record as saying that a minor was the correct call, I have no idea how that actually hurt Raanta, and anyone mad about it should get over it. But just saying “I’m not a Canes fan so I can say whatever I want and I’m right” isn’t really true. If that actually caused it, it’d be bigger news. Raanta didn’t react to it at all, he was clearly injured prior. I have no reason to think either direction, I’m just reacting to something that is clear as day on a video.

This is nice of you to say, thank you! There are definitely some F26 posters that rock the Black and Red shades, but @Anton Dubinchuk is as unbiased as they come.
I can't speak for you, but it's been evident in the last x# of hours that a fairly large number of Canes fans feel the need to burn Pastrnak at the stake for it. Those folks clearly care about what caused it.I agree with your general point if this were something that I actually had a stake in, but why would a Canes fan care about whether Pasta himself caused the injury or Raanta's own teammate did? Result is the same: a minor penalty and Raanta day-to-day. Who cares who caused it? My eyes just don't see what you're seeing, and I don't think I'm alone in this thread on that.
We're cool though, you're right, no reason to argue further. Just didn't appreciate the last min "oh yeah well I'm the unbiased one" shot as if that has anything to do with it.
This is nice of you to say, thank you!
Exactly. You don't know. None of us do. However what is 100% certain is that Pasta's punch to the mask caused Raants to go down in a heap. If blame is gonna be directed anywhere or to anyone it's there. If he doesn't do that incredibly stupid thing, intentional or not, then it leads to nothing else.I'm not saying anything about right or wrong, but as a non-biased observer I'd like to think I can see things more objectively than someone more emotionally involved. Yes... we're burning him at the stake because his idiotic actions led to the result. There was no reason for him to go flying in like he was shot out of a cannon if he doesn't have the ability to gauge speed and distance and stop or deviate his path. Who knows what caused Raanta to leave the game... we 100% know that Pasta got him right in the face at high speed causing him to fold over and it all went to shit from there. The blame very easily only goes towards one person here.I can't speak for you, but it's been evident in the last x# of hours that a fairly large number of Canes fans feel the need to burn Pastrnak at the stake for it. Me? I think Pastrnak caused the mask to bust his lip open, and at first I thought maybe the legs/hip got tweaked as well. No idea what specifically caused him to leave the game and I don't care to speculate any further, just hope he's good to go.
Yep a light shove with a goalies glove mit after he is crosschecked from behind is totally the same as swinging your stick at a goalie like it's a baseball bat..... (A running theme with Marchand)Yeah exactly, it was a matching penalty which is why I was confused some people were extra upset. Both deserving of the penalties IMO, but I guess being Marchand I should have expected some extra hate on him for that play
Yep. He served his penalty, and the game shifted pretty drastically from there. Seems like justice served and we move on.Yes... we're burning him at the stake because his idiotic actions led to the result. Had not considered a neck thing. Could be.Makes sense. As I mentioned, I think that's silly. 99 times out of 100 (or maybe 99 goalies out of 100) the goalie doesn't get injured there, and we happily take the 2 min minor and move on. I don't like judging this stuff based on outcome, just on action. (I reserve the right to throw all of this out the window and irrationally lose my shit if things start looking less good for the Canes at some point in these playoffs - it's fun to be a fan after all. )
My best guess as I said above is a neck muscle strain, maybe his head was already tilted at a weird angle and the little bit of force from Pasta caused him to just tweak something weird. Legs/hips could be as well since that's the source of the majority of his injury history. The dude seriously is just made of glass. There's a reason the Canes fanbase was so focused on a backup goalie even going into the series - I think we all knew Raanta wasn't going to be able to play 4-7 games in a row.

You're missing an order of operations though.
Marchand crosscheck
Kochetkov slash
Kochetkov shove
Marchand slash
It was even. Marchand started it but Kochetkov gave as good as he got.
Perhaps most importantly, arguing about getting an extra minor in a game we won 5-2 and got 9 total PPs just seems like a bizarre waste of energy.
I typically side with the goalies in these cases. I expected Marchand to get the extra 2 in this case and was very surprised he didn't. None of the shoves or stickwork were that bad, but the last hack by Marchand can't go unpunished.
Wasn't meant as a shot and sorry if it came across as such.Just didn't appreciate the last min "oh yeah well I'm the unbiased one" shot as if that has anything to do with it.

The not getting paid part Is technically incorrect the NHL allocates 20M that is distributed among playoff teams based on how many games they played and distributed to the players based of TOI.He got fined $5k. Which is:
a) Probably the right call because getting suspended for that would be ridiculous
b) Peanuts, hilarious that that's the max allowable by the CBA
c) Just thought of this for the first time, very bizarre you're allowed to fine someone in the playoffs given you don't actually pay players in the playoffs. Marchand is not only not getting paid to play all of this extra hockey, but he has, in fact, now paid to play this extra hockey. It's like travel league all over again!
(That said, I guess if one guy gets fined and the other doesn't, that sort of is the league admitting in a way that maybe Marchand should've gotten the extra 2. Either way, it's hard to sweat it. As a Canes fan, I'm happy it happened - Marchand is very good, maybe the best ever, at getting into opponents' heads, and it seems like right now maybe we're in his.)
Marchand also got a 6 game suspension earlier in the year for getting into with a goalie (the punch and stick poke to the helmet) so I'd assume this is the league telling him to knock this crap out now. And Pyotr has no history so maybe they ask Rod to ask Svetch to tell him to watch himself in the future. He got fined $5k. Which is:
