This board is fickle. If we lost 5 4 this thread would be 500 posts long with people ranting.

I'm willing to give the rangers all the credit in the world when they actually deserve it, regardless of the scoreboard. Like game 1

I thought they played a better, more well rounded game tonight. The forecheck was better. Less running around in defensive zone. Not saying they did not have trouble with the Caps with their sharp passing, but it looked way more contained to me tonight.

See! I'm not the only one who sees the flaws even in a win! This team is still a mess and needs to play better. If they play like that again, they're almost certain to lose 9 times out of 10.

Gloat more on a board.

Yes the Rangers have their flaws. They need to clean it up in their own end and polish the passing in the offensive zone. You're blowing it up and making it seem like the Rangers didn't score a single goal on their own.

Gutsy win but they blew two leads late in periods. I actually got to watch it.

They won so I won't be as critical as I want to be, but Jesus Christ intelligence is not a hallmark of a Tortarella team.

Deflections don't absolve Lundqvist. The deeper you play in the net, the likelihood of deflections increase. Obviously he can do whatever he wants because it makes him great, but if he played more near the top of the crease it would practically eliminate deflections unless a player was behind him.

Roy was never deep in the net, so he rarely got beat by deflections.

Most of our power plays were results of Washington being stupid. Oleksy's elbow, Holtby's trip on Nash, and Ward's high stick were dumb. Ovechkin's roughing call was behind the play. The too many men is a lack of judgment. Washington had at least 7 or 8 extended shifts pressuring us in the defensive zone. We were not good 5 on 5.

Olesky's elbow was the result of a good forecheck by Brassard. Holtby's trip was the result of good forechecking by Nash. Shocking -- we forecheck well and we get penalties.

But no. Clearly our team ****ing sucks.

both goals in the 3rd were scored at ES

while not happy with the pin job they allowed. you really can't say they were irrelevant when we get the third and 4th goals at ES.

What I meant by 'being irrelevant' at ES is that they get largely outplayed like crazy! Look at the shot differential at ES between the two and the possession time, the Rangers are getting absolutely crushed!

Yeah, Hank had two iffy goals against him. The 3rd goal was just awful. He cannot have another game like tonight's in this series.

Happy for the win and some individual performances
Not happy for the style of play or many things in the teams general game + effort/execution
Gotta say though that happiness outweighs the unhappiness right now
Tie it up Wednesday and I might stay away from the >Torts thread a couple days ;)

Dude, these announcers are killing me. I love how they were saying the Caps were due some power plays. Since when are team's owed power plays because they can't stay disciplined? The two of them are a couple of jackasses.

Yep, they were brutal all night. I mean, I expect homers when it comes to the local broadcasts, but it went beyond that to just bad announcing. Loved their freeze-frame of the Rangers' line change to try to make the argument that the Rangers should have gotten the too-many-men penalty instead of the Caps. LOL. Conveniently ignoring the fact that none of those players were involved in the play and the freeze frame makes it look much worse than it was. Not to mention not even batting an eye at Ovie's dive at the end.

Still not as bad as the Pittsburgh announcers though... Despite that annoying nasaly voice.

Oh my god.

Yes.

Yes.

I completely agree with every single word.

The Rangers played their best game in game 1 of the series. They had the best result in game 3. They are far different concepts!

QFT.

A lot of you need to take a step back and stop hoping for us to fail so you can push your personal agendas until after we're actually out of it. Seriously, getting old. Why even watch this team if you just want them to fail so you can be right?

We had some good moments, but the Caps DOMINATED us at even strength. That has to change for game 4. PK was solid and the PPs actually generated momentum for a change. It's clear what the problems were, so hopefully they'll get straightened out. Gotta wait and see.

We are still not playing well enough 5 on 5. It will come back to bite us sooner or later.

We need to hit their forwards in our zone. HARD.

We also need to forecheck and cycle more in their zone. HARD.

They get penalized because of the Rangers forcing the issue + the Caps are a cocky team.

What I see is a Caps team that has a speed advantage over the Rangers + AO/Green. Rangers won tonight with perseverance and heart

Glad to see that you have not given a single shred of evidence for why we played so poorly.

We had some very good 5-on-5 moments since we scored two goals at ES and got all of our PPs from our pressure at ES.

So Ovechkin's line pinned us in the zone a few times. Guess what? That's going to happen. He's a SUPERSTAR player. When he's on his game, he can dominate at times. But the team didn't wilt or let him beat them.

Clearly they played horrible. You got me. :shakehead

I think you may have forgotten the sarcasm smiley, though. You couldn't possibly be serious.

I'm with you. Way too much negativity on this board and people seem to forget that we're playing a team that was as hot as it gets going into the playoffs.

I can see *****ing about Nash, but Callahan, Girardi, Boyle, Hags all played their ***** off tonight. We outplayed them ES in the third period. Washington had a lot of puck possession but Rangers kept them to the outside a lot of that possession time.

I'm glad we gave Holtby something to do tonight. Do it again game 4, boys.

Rangers didn't dominate, therefore they sucked. Again, if I'm watching this game as a neutral fan, I'm thinking that this is great playoff hockey. Each team getting momentum and responding to the other. While I was disappointed the Rangers didn't come out with their hair on fire, they got better and better as the game went on.

Great to see Boyle back on the PK. Facing a team like the Caps in the playoffs really highlights how important those PK'ers are. He was great all around. Yay Brian Boyle!
