We have won the President's Cup and have advanced to the ECF where we are tied 2-2. We have used the same 6 D since game 1. The defense isn't the problem. If Mika, Panarin, CK and Fox would have gone goal less in 4 games in December against average teams, we would probably be 2-2 during that stretch too. We need our 40 million dollar superstars to score some goals. All I heard before these playoffs start is if we don't get secondary scoring, we can't win. Well we got secondary scoring. We haven't got primary scoring.

I guess it's just too much to have both. The Rangers way!

to defend Laviolette, putting Trouba and Miller back together kind of made sense at home, they're both horrendous these playoffs and i'd rather one bad pair than 2. but that doesn't work on the road where Maurice is free to let Barkov face f*** that pair every time theyre on the ice.

But still no Jones. At least as a 7th.

I don't want to hear how great Lav and the coaches are anymore. They have a potential partial cure to their biggest issue and they're keeping it holstered.
A lot of this is on the players but Lavy has done a poor job this series in all aspects and has been outcoached by Maurice.

You can't score if you're pinned in your own zone.

You haven't noticed how bad the D has been?

What happened in the regular season no longer matters. It's a different game.

The Rangers best player is barely an average defenseman now and he's still their best defenseman, which is a horrific indictment of the rest of the group.

Florida has arguably 4-6 better defensemen than any Ranger not named Fox.

If the refs are calling the game a certain way, it is incumbent upon the Rangers coaching staff to get the Rangers to do the same things. If they don't lay the blame at their feet.
If the Rangers start doing that, then the refs would be like "oh retaliation! 2 minutes! That is Florida's game, not yours!" At that point, fans would seriously think there's a conspiracy. But they would be missing the point still.

What the staff needs to do is figure out the tactics to 1) clear the damned zone and 2) hold onto the puck more. That tricks the refs, not tit for tat. We play a possession game, we get more power plays. Simple equation.

The big 3 forwards being mostly no shows is definitely a big time problem, but your brain would have to be pretty smooth to think the defense (from both the defensemen and the forwards) hasn’t been a glaring issue.

I'm a bit surprised Wheeler is scratched. I thought he looked pretty decent, but it might be conditioning. Did we ever get a reason why Chytil was scratched last game?

Yeah. They’re managing his ice time.
We all expected him back this game.

The key is to do it first. Make them retaliate.

They don't need tactics to clear the defensive zone. They know what to do but are failing at it, which brings more pressure, which makes it worse.

Mika needs to make up for the shit play he made in OT in the last game that forced Wheeler into taking a penalty that led to Florida's OT goal. Rangers need to get some mojo back and not let the Panthers dictate the entirety of the game. Shesterkin's been fine, Lafreniere and Trocheck have been great.....more of their best players need to show up.

I like what Wheeler brought in game 4. Again, as a first liner he's tough to stomach but as a 4th liner I think he's going to bring value.

I swear I thought Kakko stepped on his stick which is not a penalty.

He stepped on a stationary stick which is never going to be called (when seen correctly) otherwise players would just start stepping on other teams sticks on purpose to get tripping calls

I don't get how people don't understand the link between effective defense and your forwards scoring goals. This isn't football where the offense and defense take separate shifts.
