I mean, we just played 7 periods of even hockey. It’s not like they stunk up the joint. Don’t get too down over one mistake when guys were at the falling-down point of exhaustion. This is very much a long grinding series in the making, there will be ups and downs.

I’m bummed so perhaps a little negative here. Panthers controlled first two periods, Canes 3rd, first two OT fairly even/slightly Panthers. Last 2 OT they dominated.

I thought with our conditioning we would take over as the game progrsssed but clearly wrong.

Didn’t pull up the advanced stats but +/- does tell a story here:

Canes losing to Detroit in Triple OT in 2002 was particularly stinging because it was game 3.

It’s a loaded stat. “Teams that win a special type of game are 10-0.” Well, they certainly should win the series more than they lose, we’re spotting them a game.

An extreme version of the phenomenon I’m describing: “Not a single one of the winners of the 200 longest NHL playoff games got swept in their series.” What are the odds? Wow!

By my count:5-3 which is way better than I expected. We won a lot of series in 2002 and 2006 after losing game 1 at home.

And im not counting a “home loss” in the Bubble.

Just got home from the game and have one comment: I am stunned at how much better conditioned the Panthers looked than us as the minutes ticked by. For whatever reason, I absolutely did not expect to see that.

It was good because you don't always get the opportunity to be both tired and sad at the same time, and now I’ve gotten to experience that both last night and this morning (the gift that keeps on giving!)

It is still one game though. A brutal game but if you are gonna take a kick to the proverbial ding ding like that better first game than probably any other. We’ve also proven we can win on the road this postseason which we will surely have to do to win this series.
