Bob won't keep this up. And if he does, oh well, truly not much at all you can do about it. Still feel good about this series.

People keep saying Bob can't continue to play like this. They've been saying it since round 1 and Bob just keeps winning. Unfortunately I don't think this is when Bob turns back into a pumpkin. The Canes need to hit their shots on Saturday, and add a dash of Marley Drug to all their shots. They aren't gonna beat him down low or from some tough angle.

Yeah, there's no indication that Carolina, of all teams, can beat a hot goalie.

I thought we struggled offensively and we were lucky to go to OT. It seemed we had alot of issues with breakouts and clearing the puck. Not sure if it's Florida's aggression or game prep. Offensively it seemed like our D were very cautious and some on offense, Pesce in particular, were duds.
Yes, Pesce had a bad game last night. Several times the play would die on his stick in the offensive zone because he either shot the puck and it hit a Florida player about 3-6 feet ahead of him, or he missed the net by a large margin (the latter happening way too often for the team in general; full on stereotypical Stormtrooper mode).
While I agree, I also didn't see the Canes solidly beating this team either. This is likely to be a long, close series.

And getting back to an earlier question, I definitely think the Canes should start Raanta game 2. Don't want to overwork Andersen to the point of injury, and I think Raanta will play well fresh at home. Could also give the team an extra boost in their step they need after game 1.

Florida is unlikely to turn to Lyon. Wear Bob down and leverage the goalie depth.
The only silver lining from that excessively long game 1 IMO is it wears Bob down to the point of negatively affecting his play, or the bigger longshot, they switch to their backup goalie. Whereas we can feel comfortable with Rantaa as our backup and especially with him well rested. Andersen stood on his head so many times (it must've been the best game in his career), and our lack of offense let him and all of the fans down. That power play in the 4th overtime was the last good chance to win it, and they failed.

Anyway, a lot more could be said about game 1. I will add by saying (1) it's worth considering swapping Stepan for Poolparty or Mac to get a rested and fresh body in the line up. (2) This team had an awful 2nd period that eventually bite them in the ass, and their 5v5 play sucked bad throughout way too much of the game. (3) They have to play well on the road with a rare home game loss, but the series, as disappointing as game 1 was, is not over.

They have to pull their heads out of their asses and do better 5v5 than they did in game 1. Biz said they looked choppy the first 40 minutes. I thought it was the 2nd period that was the trashy part.

Stas and Stepan are bringing very little out there. In a 7 period game, Stas provided 0 to the offense. How is that even possible?

I would rather see non contributing JP and Mac in there. At least those two would increase our skating to put more pressure on them. But I know its just a rant and would never happen

We play a game based on conditioning and energy.

Perhaps counterintuitively, that becomes more of a disadvantage as OT goes on. You could see it last night. We need energy to create meaningful chances. Florida doesn't. As everyone got more tired the chances got more and more pointless.

I don't think Mac or JP would've done much to change this, since their whole thing is energy as well. I do agree with you that I was hoping for more from Stastny. He's one of the few that I could've seen thriving in that type of scenario, since he's never really quite been a system fit.

I'm glad I'm not the only one unimpressed with Stas and Stepan last night. Really, since the Islanders series, they haven't done much at all.

In close games like last night, getting even a little extra from your 4th line can be the difference between a win and a loss.

I'm not sure if Poolparty and Mac would be quite as steady defensively, but offensively, checking wise, and speed wise? They'd be better.

Seemed like we were the rusty ones from the break but that's over now. It felt like one of those games that could go either way even before the OT vignettes to me - wasn't seeing a dominant or super scary performance from the other side except the goalie. So, I don't feel like it's such a bellwether for the series. Maybe I am being naive but these guys have had their team decimated by injuries yet have still showed up to compete and win.

I mean people shit on the leafs for losing to them, but I think they're overlooking just how well Bob is playing. He's making tough saves look easy. There were a few last night he made on Aho and Jarvis that likely make it past a goalie not on a heater.

Just got home from the game and have one comment: I am stunned at how much better conditioned the Panthers looked than us as the minutes ticked by. For whatever reason, I absolutely did not expect to see that.
Carry on.
I was waiting for Brindy to lace them up. I would love to see Mr. VoMax play an endurance game like this. I’ll bet he still has it in him. Us Flyers fans miss Ghost and him immensely.

That was rough boys and girls. Got home after 3 . I now have the dubious distinction of having been present for both 1&2 longest games . I also am 0&2 . Weird game to watch and really wish I had been at home for this one and not for obvious reasons. Would have been nice to have the replays and the commentary here instead.

Next time I’m there and it goes to triple overtime I’m out , I got that tshirt and the hat.

Time for some hot tea, (I can’t talk above a whisper) and a long nap.

We need our top line to play better 5v5. Switching out 4th liners isn’t going to win this series.
I think we need both. Especially against this Florida team.

Really though, it's the whole team that needs to play better 5v5 and not just the top line. If this keeps up, I think Aho might have to put the team on his back offensively like he did so much during the Islanders series. Last night was rough offensively outside of the powerplays.

I blame Teuvo. Someone has to be the fall guy, and he's the newest addition.
ngl it felt like he kind of neutralized the Staal line in the worst way possible last night. I haven’t looked at the numbers but it felt like there were a handful of times that the Barkov line got pressure in our zone and I really think it’s because turbo was a step behind everything last night.

The second goal they scored, he has absolutely got to step up and pressure Verhaeghe. He just kind of hovered and chose to cover the point and that allowed Verhaeghe to curl in for the shot. Brett also should have stepped up there too, but Teuvo needs to recognize how deep Brett is on that play and give him help. Better to give up the shot from the point then right at one of the face off dots.
