No, it doesn't, because the NHL doesn't allow penalties to be added on those reviews. They can only make the original penalty into a minor or not a penalty at all.

This guy is wrong and keeps repeating it. Even after this was explained he said "nope it was for Domi jumping him"

The NHL logged the penalty as Dumba 2 mins for roughing on Joe Pavelski. That's how it was statistically categorized.
And of course as usual the NHL can't read the rule book. It should have been 2 min for interference if anything. They should be able to call penalties for unnecessarily hard hits which would be roughing. But there is no such rule.

There is no basis for interference on this hit.

That's just not much of a crosscheck. The worst thing about it is just that it was aimed to miss his waist padding. Dirty play in a beer league, pretty normal play in the NHL. It's the playoffs and you're standing above the crease while the puck is in flight toward the goalie, someone's going to put a stick on you.

The irony of this post in this thread is hilarious to me. Especially after your other post in this thread.

This is incredible. It's like you're having a different conversation with yourself in your head. Can you point out where I said you disagree with every decision? Or are we talking about one call where everyone who can have relevant input weighed in and said it's fine, but you said you know better?
You keep putting words in my mouth, so why not put words in yours? It's pretty clear you are not interested in having a good faith discussion anyway.

I wasn't even replying to you in the first place. My original post laid out my assessment of the hit in a pretty banal way, yet people like you want to jump in with randomly obtuse comments.

1. Yes, I think they are extremely bad at what they do. I don't think their experience or knowledge has led them to making any consistent or good-faith rulings.

2. I don't think this hit is suspendable by the letter of the rules. I think it is a penalty. I have no issue with Parros and Co. not doling out a suspension. I think it's even reasonable to not give the major in this case.

My issue is that just generally saying, "look, the league and DOPS agree, I am right!" is a laughable take. They're idiots. They'll look at two of the exact same plays and give different punishments.

OK - fair enough. I disagree with you though. I think they have a level of experience and understating of the game that you, me and basically everybody else here does not have.

I agree that you can't just say "the DOPS agree with me therefore I am right" - but I think it it is far more likely that the ruling made by the DOPS is the correct one over the average HFboard poster.

No, no he didn't.
When the dust settled, the only players penalized were the Stars’ Max Domi and Dumba.

“I don’t even know why I got the roughing,” said Dumba. “Probably because I was just in the box already.”
Dumba was called for a roughing penalty, drawn by Pavelski, according to the league’s official report. From Rule 51:

Roughing is a punching or slamming motion with or without the glove on the hand, normally directed at the head or face of an opponent … A minor penalty shall be imposed on a player who strikes an opponent with his hand or fist.

Clearly, there was no roughing against Pavelski on the play. Dumba did exchange gloved punches with the Stars’ Max Domi, who also received a matching roughing penalty, along with a ten-minute misconduct penalty. We’ll chalk this up to an accounting error. Roughing penalties to both Dumba and Domi seem appropriate here.

The slow-mo makes it not look as bad.

I do feel like you’d sing a different tune if that was Aho.

Try actually watching the video. The first thing to that happens on contact is that Pavelski's head snaps back violently, within a single frame. That's clearly where the injury occurred and only happens due to shoulder to head being the initial point of impact.
Lol look at the still frame, that’s not what happened.

I agree in that they definitely have more experience. I disagree that experience allows those specific individuals to actually make good decisions. It's like saying because Jim Benning has so much NHL experience, all of his decisions as GM of the Canucks were smart and well-informed. Like, no, clearly they were not.

Would the average HF poster be better? Probably not, but I don't even think it's a guarantee. Would a competent, objective outsider be better than Parros and Co? Yes, absolutely. Head of DOPS should be like some former corporate insurance lawyer or something. Not a former goon.

Dallas is finally on the receiving end of one of their stars getting rocked by dirty players? I dunno, I might call that Karma.

Not rooting for the Stars in the slightest, but seeing Pavs down on the ice like that made me sick. And I didn’t see the clip of Dumba laughing but if he did then he can get ****ed, regardless of what you think of the hit.

My read is that it's more of a face of disbelief as he's protesting the call, looking at the huddle of officials discussing the call. Pavelski had already gone down the tunnel by that point.

A bit late and I think evening up 4v4 was a lazy attempt to maintain control.

No fines/suspension necessary. However Dumba cackling and taunting in the penalty box was a brutal reflection of character. He knew the result even if the intent was clean.

The review of a major rule is pretty clear, you can't add penalties for other things based on the review. They reduced the penalty to a minor, had nothing to do with Domi.

He didn't get a roughing for getting jumped. Domi got a game misconduct for jumping him. Why would they penalize Dumba too?

I don't think it is fair to compare acting as a general manager of a pro hockey team with making decisions on a player safety committee. GM's are hired to be fired and their decisions are far more abstract, speculative and strategic than a group of people trying to decide appropriate punishment on specific hockey plays. "Experience" plays a much greater role in the latter.

I think a very smart, Ivy league school graduate, with more than a decade of pro hockey experience is more than just "a former goon" and sounds exactly like the kind of guy that would be good at running the DOPS.

They didn't even announce Domi's roughing until after the major review. The only thing announced prior was the major. They had likely called the roughing at the same time they called Domi's roughing but didn't announce it until after they cleared up the major situation.

Dumba threw gloved punches at Domi and that is roughing. Dumba did not throw anything at Pavs other than the hit, which was deemed clean, thus no major, no interference.
By rule, the only thing Dumba did was throw gloved punches at Domi - which is a roughing call, which is what he got.
