I think he gave up his hand last year when he got ownership to agree to re-up Sutter after 2 years of the team failing. To buy into the fairy tale that Sutter's system and the roster players on hand could still be a contender. THe fact he did nothing to improve the roster over the summer supports the fact he's still lost in the past. And he overmarinates his prospects. Mersch is turning 25 in Oct, he should have been up here last year, let alone this one. Most other teams have success in bringing up their prospects and letting them grow their game. Hell, the LEafs have 9 rookies and every one is contributing.
I think ownership realizes their mistake a year too late and that is why DL will be booted into a new office come June.
I don't think ownership, at this point, is putting any pressure on him, they are an average team, not a contender.
