It’s hard to think of another trade in recent memory that has been so universally considered a fleecing when it happened and ended up being even worse in reality. Maybe Erat for Forsberg but at least Erat was off their hands before he became an albatross. Seguin for Loui Eriksson was pretty bad but the Bruins got other pieces in the trade while in our case, somehow the Kings ended up adding multiple sweeteners.

Vilardi is on fire, scored another goal against the Bruins.
And had an assist.

I was having a good conversation with someone in PMs who helped me realize the core of why I'm so frustrated with this trade. PLD is a talented player whose level of engagement is inconsistent, but he doesn't make his linemates better. Laferriere, Grundstrom, and Kaliyev haven't really benefitted. Fiala is already just highly talented and that was just a chemistry issue.

Vilardi had a couple stretches of struggling in his young career, which started late at the professional level due to injury. But with Byfield and Iafallo, they played better when with him than without him. Coincidentally, Byfield and Iafallo have also played well on Kopitar's line.

This isn't to say Vilardi is on Kopitar's level. But some players can get others to play better. PLD just goes about doing his own thing at his own pace, and there's just not an elevation in the quality of play.

And for what the Kings paid for in assets and finances, it could be very costly if he doesn't improve.

Was the reaction that the Kings lost the trade? I remember a good number of Kings fans thinking LA won this, but I may be mis-remembering.

I am still waiting for the streak. Just a handful of games where he cares somewhat about something and puts up a few points before disappearing for another quarter of a season. If he was a streaky player you would think he would have a streak by now, but he's just been bad, lol. Honestly, this whole situation is a negative dumpster fire and it would take a miracle to put it out. He's young, but I question if he will mature any.

So funny how last season Gabe finally showed signs of being a star, pretty sure he was leading the league in goals for the first month or more. Finally a homegrown talent lives up to his hype, then poof, trade him for a worse player and gave up way too much to get him. Genuinely one of the worst trades in recent memory. The question is no longer will Vilardi end up with more points by seasons end, it's how many more points will he get than PLD's career high?

If PL was signed for 7 million, how much less would this sting? Not very, but combined with the cap going up, there'd be room for more excuses and coping to be had by many

The fact this deal was made, with idea that Danault will finally be in his rightful place as a 3C, And Danualt is still 2C, and we're paying 8.5m to a guy who the org clearly doesn't know what to even do with at this point, combined with what we had to give up, is insanity.

This is downright a nightmare scenario playing out right in front of our eyes.

a PLD-zaster of extraordinary proportions .. i cant digest it.. ive got a case of the blands like w Faber i dont think Ill get over the loss of Vilardi for damn long time. A rare homegrown offensive talent - w hands of gold.. someone that does something special every game. 8 and 11 are HOF players.. but to say they are exciting to watch would be a stretch. At least Fiala provides some entertainment albeit both extremes of good and bad.

We can all agree everybody had an easier time digesting PLD's failures when Vilardi was out hurt

Now that he's back he's showing the hockey world how dumb of a move this was by RB, on a nightly basis

Hindsight is not needed when evaluating this trade

Couldn't have said it better about the homegrown talent, hands of gold etc

Sad Kings fan noises

I can't believe he hasn't had atleast 2-3 really good games in a row. That's what he would do in Winnipeg. Really odd to see.

We'll always have that time he almost played a little on the 4th line

He's barely had one in a row all season

Here’s the original thread on the trade forum: Confirmed Trade: - [LAK/WPG] Pierre-Luc Dubois (signs 8 years, $8.5M AAV) for Gabe Vilardi, Alex Iafallo, Rasmus Kupari, 2024 2nd round pick

Pretty universal with regards to people dunking on Blake and saying Dubois isn’t worth half that.

With the exception of a couple posters who are currently too busy rimming Blake to comment here, everyone f***ing hated this trade for LA.

Vilardi getting paid $3.4375 mill over the next two years vs. $8.5 mill from Dubois. All will be forgiven if Dubois slays the playoffs. Otherwise, Blake deserves a lot of criticism for this.

Vilardi is on fire, scored another goal against the Bruins.
And it's not just that he had a goal and an assist - he is impacting every single game he's playing in. Something Dubois is *NOT* doing.

IMHO, the worst part about this is we were so patient with Vilardi, it ends up paying off and then we trade him for someone who has so far looked completely disinterested/aloof/whatever you wanna call it. Tough pill to swallow.

LOL Holy shit.....the amount of visionary bullshit tied up on this post takes the cake for today....yes...people have been calling out LA for being a shit team for YEARS.....you have that right.....those are also the people that have been WRONG the past 2 years....but don't let facts stop you....
Wrong about what exactly? Oh right, I forgot we’re supposed to be super jazzed about regular season wins. Not even good enough for home ice in the playoffs. It really doesn’t take much to satisfy you does it?

So tell me how jazzed was Boston last year? Or Colorado, or Edmonton, or Florida the year before, or Toronto, or 31 other f***ing teams??

Wrong about LA being a good team, wrong about them being a contending team, you realize that most, if not all people who get paid for a living the shit we do for free, consider LA contenders, right? It's like you have no f***ing idea what it takes to win, it should be you put A and then B, add a dash of C and why the f*** aren't we winning tantrums come around.....
