LeBrun: Dubois wants out of Winnipeg, will not sign a contract for next season

Did he quit on Winnipeg at all this year?
At times he looked like he wasn't giving 100%... it came out later that he'd been battling a nagging hip injury from January on that looked to coincide with his play suffering. It was one of those "only time off will heal it" type things, so maybe bursitis or tendinitis

I don’t know about this year but I’m talking about the shift
Not saying it’s better or worse, but in that particular instance, I don’t think he quit on the team so much as he quit on the coach…

…but I could be wrong… I’m not him and only he knows for sure

Every player has bad shifts. If Torts didn't crave attention so much Dubois wouldn't have been benched and nobody would have remembered that it happened. Summing up a player based on a shift is asinine.

Lol not even close. Read this article: Highest-Paid NHL Players 2022: Young Stars Are Making The Most Of Hockey’s Hard Reality

Dubois has no more national appeal in Montreal than in Winnipeg and he isn't getting millions to endorse La Banquise. Your guess is probably off by a factor of 10.

Based on the Score the big guys I'm toronto are making about 2 million a year. While they are more skilled players than PLD and are bigger names. Being the local star is definitely worth money.

There are tax strategies in Canada that make such a simple comparison of just income tax rates pretty much hogwash.

Depends on the each player and their plans on how they manage their money. Some want to fully invest for future and some invest in business ventures. If they invest for retirement, tax is easily manageable while they play because lets face it, they are not spending millions per year with their families. If they haul out money to purchase extra toys and/or business ventures, it's trickier to escape tax.

It's hogwash to some but not all. This is why the tax narrative keeps going away and brought up again. It really depends on each player and the context is deep.

Those guys are in national commercials. Matthews and Marner are all over my TV these playoffs and not on the ice. Dubois might get a lot of local commercial opportunity but I don't think he gets anywhere close to 300k, let alone 2 million.

That 300k in difference he can make up by being in commercials and shit in Montreal.

Really comes down to if Montreal is willing to pay/can beat LA.

If LA truly wants him, then he'll end up there as they have the better assets to move.

Kings won't want to move assets anymore than the Habs do. Habs won't trade Guhle or Dach anymore than the Kings want to trade Clarke and Byfield.

This comes down to who is more aggressive and then can get Dubois to sign. I don't see the Habs getting into a bidding war. We will make our offer and stay engaged but the min the Kings offer Byfield, let him go.

Kings don't have better assets to move. I disagree. They are just in a situation where it's more win now vs the Habs. That's the difference.

He'd make 1-2M per year easy in MTL on endorsements alone

I have seen this parroted many times on the Canadiens forum, and it's a gross, gross exaggeration.

A Canadiens player who is telegenic, popular and, as a bonus, French Canadian might be able to make $100 to $200K in endorsements.

Generally, that kind of money would be available to whoever the top handful of players on the Canadiens are, at any given time. Being French might give him a little bit of a leg up on say, Cole Caufield, but it comes down to how popular the players are, but the money is a $100K or 2. It is nowhere near a million or two, that's just way, way, way off.

I think they definitely have better assets than Montreal to move, whether they want to move them is another question, but I think in a straight bidding war, LA comes out on top every time. They have prospects on the right side of D that the Jets could use, have salary they need to move out on players that are more useful than the salary dumps Montreal is looking to make (Armia, Dvorak, Anderson is a non-factor since he won't waive his NTC for here I'm sure).

I think your vastly underestimating the Quebec media market, like vastly, especially since most of it's biggest media spenders are Quebec only and not as big outside the province and those outside the province change ads and endorsements to relate to Quebec consumers. Comparing it to the Canada wide national commercials is why your off base, you don't see the placements for QC and they don't see ROC because there targeted to QC and French speakers. Matthews and Marner are less relevant then Canadiens.

Habs draft power over the last few drafts has been higher and our development resumes from several players are top notch. Sorry, Kings don't have better assets to move. I'm pretty sure you guys in your herd said the same thing when we were trying to trade for Laine back when. Several in your fan base called players like Caufield and Guhle spare parts. Don't try to deny it

Habs have loads of assets but we are in a rebuild where the Kings are not. They will be more open to trading young assets and I've seen some fans assume that Byfield is available. We will see about that.

Who are you drooling on if the Kings don't trade Clarke or Byfield like the Habs won't with Guhle and Dach? Vilardi and Turcotte? Come on man

I have no skin in the game here, but saying “swing or a miss,” as you’re saying you did, is utterly meaningless. It would have to be hit or miss. You swing regardless. That swing either hits or it misses. So if you said, “swing or a miss,” it’s quite possible that anyone replying to you would have autocorrected your words into something that actually made sense
My bad, i blame going to french school and still having issues with grammar in english.

It made sense to me.

IF Dubois is changing teams faster than I change my dirty underwear, why would you think his trade value would be high?? He is considered a rental player permanently lol
This would be the second time PLD changes teams. You really should start changing your underwear more often.

I don't think 2 million is possible but the 300-500k I could see.

Sure bud, still waiting to see the kid become what he was drafted to become, but thanks for being one of those hockey fans with the power to see the future.

Because its still early in the habs re build and dach has not proven anything yet?
Keep those blinders on.

Fair. You're right, I'm not familiar with the Quebec media market. I thought it might be bigger than an ROC province but I guess I underestimated that.

Firstly, I note your frequent decrying of fans of other teams grouping the Habs fans together and then calling the Jets fanbase a "herd".

The Athletic has the Kings at number 7 in their prospect pool rankings, and Montreal at 11.

I'd rather have a Vilardi, or an Arvidsson, or an Iafallo over Christian Dvorak. LA also has Alex Turcotte needing a spot, Jordan Spence fits the age and the position the Jets would be looking for (again, the argument over whether they'd move him, but still have him higher than the prospects Montreal fans have put on offer).

Then again, I am speaking with the person who I think said that Owen Beck is worth the 20th overall pick this year so I'm not too surprised you're bullish on whatever you're willing to offer.

If L.A puts Byfield on the table Winnipeg should run with that. He would be an insane long term pieces to get.

I dont see in the future and as of right now we have no clue what dach will be in montreal but thank you for taking the time to write all this for my entertainment.

Its amazing how people get so emotionally attach to something like a sports team and feel the need to type all this because they did not like an opinion. Thanks champ so proud of your défense of the habs.
You made your opinion sound as if it was a fact. Seems your attached enough to keep responding in this thread.
We Hab fans are always defending our team from trolls.
