If Jets fans could choose between unavailable young players from either Montreal or Los Angeles:

Dach:
6'4 212 lbs

22 years old.
58gp 14g (20) 24a (34) 38pts (54)
Signed at 3.36 per til 2026 (rfa)

Vilardi

6'3 215 lbs
Turning 24 in August
63gp 23g (30) 18a (23) 41pts (53)
Rfa with 900k qo

He's one year younger than PLD, has all of 78 points in his NHL career and in his single best season he had 41 points. How on earth is this "the right trajectory" to pass PLD?

Development isn't linear, he had a big year last year.

Obviously not a jets fan but Dach, easily.

Interesting to talk about Kings rather than Habs. I feel we’ve all combed through the entire Habs roster and prospects several times and concluded what a talent poor mess it is.

No wonder a deal couldn’t be cut.

What do Kings fans think of this:

PLD signed for 8x8.5 + Helle 50% retained for
Clarke + Valardi + Iafallo/Arvidson + 2024 1st
Probably need both Iafallo/Arvidson to make cap work for LA. LA adds 11.6M here only ships out about 4.2 assuming its higher pd arvidsson who goes. That is a net +7.4 to the Kings which eats up all their cap space with a roster of 11F 5D and 2G

And was still well behind the year PLD had at the same age. Also needs to be noted that PLD was having a monster year this year until his injury, far better than anything you could reasonably expect from Vilardi.

I’m cool with PLD but I definitely don’t want Hellebuyck. Seems pretty overrated and a mental midget. No thank you.

Agreed. There really isn't anyone in the Habs system I really want. LA OTOH has a number of players I find very interesting.

Weird. Every time I see a prospect rankings list by team, Montreal is usually in the top 10.

Well here's to hoping he doesn't have a monster year this upcoming season, he'll want to get paid big time.

Sending Vilardi does make sense for LAK, in a way, for cap reasons (Vilardi needs a deal, after all, and Dubois possibly takes his spot).

PLD's extension wouldn't kick in until 24-25 so the 23-24 hit isn't quite as much as the 11.6 you mentioned.

Thay means LA would need to clear 11M to make it happen, who do they trade?
It's $9 million. Trade any two of Durzi/Moore/Arvidsson/Iaffalo and you've cleared the space you'd need and can also keep Villardi.

I don't know that I do it, but they've got the space.

I don't think the Jets have ever retained salary in a trade. They have also stated they are still trying to win this upcoming season. The retained salary thing doesn't fit history or current narrative.
Tough Tough job ahead for Chevy. I just don't see anyone with trade protection waiving it to go to Winnipeg, his only resort maybe futures.

Jets will surely want a centre back, yes?

PLD is definitely getting moved, Hellebuyck is likely, and really, Scheifele may get moved too. Somewhere in these trades, the Jets will need someone to play centre. No chance we have Adam Lowry as 1C next year and I'm really not sure of the trajectory or the durability of Cole Perfetti yet.

I've been asking for Dach and FLA 1st all along, so blame me

I still think it's a fair trade. I don't understand Habs fans infatuation with Dach. Sure, I get why they'd be hesitant to give him up if they thought they could get PLD for free in a year but now it looks like that's not the case.

PLD is currently the better player, he's just entering his prime and will still be in it if/when the Habs can become competitive again. Basically Habs fans don't want the sure thing, just in case their shiny new toy might actually turn into the sure thing. Completely nonsensical.

And all the talk of PLD not fitting their window is ridiculous, given the fact he's only a year older than Suzuki

As a Jets fan, I take PLD over Dach 100 times out of 100 moving forward but since that won't be the case, I'd settle for Dach as a consolation

Cool. But you can’t have either. PLD wants nothing more to do with Winnipeg and Dach isn’t available

They would need to add 6 players to their roster in that scenario.

PLD is looking for around 8M and Helleybuck at 50% is 3M no? That means 11M would be coming in.
