No because cap has to go no matter what this season. At the moment the Kings barely have cap to resign their current guys amd have no money for a goalie. So they are already in deep hell.

List of guys the Kings can't move...Kopitar, Kempe, Fiala, Danault, Vilardi, Byfield, Moore, Doughty, Anderson, Clarke, Roy, Gavrikov, Copley, Portillo. I'd have in here Kaliyev too but how the Kings used him at the end of last season he might be on the block.

Guys that are available...Arvidsson, Iafallo, Grundstrum, Lizotte, JAD, Durzi, pretty much all prospects. I think Kupari is in this list sadly because he gives me the young Kempe vibes. If he brings up his scoring abilities than a 2C role is his ceiling.

I don't see a trade that be up to Winnipeg's standards that fits the Kings cap without killing the depth of the team.
 
I'd imagine wpg might be getting 1 or 2 guys who are making some nhl coin now plus a prospect center like Byfield or vilardi and maybe draft picks

Jets could retain on helle and the first year of Dubois contract if need be
 
If the Kings want to make a run next year and get an extended PLD and Helly 50% retained and worry if they can extend him next year.....The Jets would take back a cap dump to get the return they want as the window has closed when Helly leaves and we are looking 3+ years down the road.

This is the type of trades the Jets should want and the type of trade the Kings may be interested in

Don't think you can just retain on a year of a multiple year contract.

Sign a 1 year deal to trigger the his ability to sign 8 years in season?

Is that legal?

So the plan is to wait until Edmonton and Vegas aren’t any good in 3-4 years? I would think the kings would want to make some noise while they still have Kopitar, but maybe I’m wrong.
 
If it is the King's Im surprised it isn't done yet, I mean I guess no rush from the side of Jets but as some of the offers in here have looked they do have the pieces.

They can't if the rumors are true that he wants $8-9m. Only way is if both Arvidsson and Iafallo get traded (not both to Winnipeg). That would clear the space but they would have to rely on the kids to setup or vet minimum guys to fill the roles. Which I highly doubt LA management wants. Right now the team is looking like...

They have the pieces, but the caproom is entierely something else (I mean, they have the caproom to sign PLD, but he issue is mostly with the other pieces that have to be added to ice an actual roster).
 
I think if all 3 parties are motivated they can get a deal done... Chevy doesn't work fast so patience is the key lol

PLD takes a bit less because LA is LA and are they ready to win now
LA wants to compete now and Vegas+Oil are better then they are right now
Jets need the future talent LA can provide and has room to take on cap to make the deal

probably work out an 8 year contract with what ever team trades for him, jets sign him to the contract they work out then trade him to that team

Vilardi might be better than PLD next year for all we know, he's on the right trajectory. Trading away a guy like Brandt hurts them in the short and long run as well.

It's a clear overpayment

Thanks for the reply, that's what I thought as well. In order to sign Dubois, they would need to trade at least Iaffalo & Arvidsson and maybe someone else as well since you need to replace 1 more roster spot.

It's probably possible but it's gonna be complicated. They should focus on Helleybuck since he can be retained at 50% for only 3M next season.

Helleybuck for Iaffalo + Spence + 1st/2nd?

He's one year younger than PLD, has all of 78 points in his NHL career and in his single best season he had 41 points. How on earth is this "the right trajectory" to pass PLD?

Unless the Jets get Byfield back or unless they are getting a centre another way, I don't see how the Kings are a good trade partner (considering the Kings cap issues). Maybe there is some sort of package the Jets would put together for Byfield and Vilardi, but even that doesn't seem to fit. I'm not even talking about if the trade will be equal. I just know the Jets are going to request a centre to fill the hole left by Dubois because they have no one to replace him internally, yet.

I don't think the Jets have ever retained salary in a trade. They have also stated they are still trying to win this upcoming season. The retained salary thing doesn't fit history or current narrative.

Maybe Helleybuck will fill that center need if he's trade?
