Point went over your head. You’re arguing over 1-2 spots to try and downplay the pick. This is 2023. Not 2016. We move with the times. It’s a first round pick.

Yes I am because 6 years ago it would have been considered a 2nd rounder. It's not as valuable as you think it is. Technically sure yes it's a 1st round pick. Realistically it's 1 pick away from being about as bad a 1st round pick as you can get and barely relevant as a 1st round pick. The difference between picking 31 and picking 33 is so miniscule it really doesn't even matter.

For all intents and purposes it might as well be just as valuable as anyone else offering a high 2nd.

He needs to be part of the Trade to make it work tho
If we keep Dvorak, we need to scale back the offer

Then hopefully they move onto one of the other 5 teams that Dubois agent said are on his list.

Sure, and for all intents and purposes it's just as valuable as someone offering a late first.

...do you deny that it's a 1st??...no??...then debate over, I suppose...:thumbu:

Never said it wasn't a first. Just said that 6 years ago it wasn't and nothing has changed outside of the number of teams drafting so it's basically a 2nd in my eyes. Or am I not entitled to that belief because you said so?

...you can believe it's a 2nd all you want...it's a 1st...facts are facts...:thumbu:

True and the facts are 6 years ago pick 31 or 32 was in fact a 2nd. So I value it accordingly. Any team outside of Vegas offering up basically any other pick in the 32 team1st round will beat that automatically. So it's probably the worst 1st round pick we could possibly get in a Dubois trade unless he's dealt to Vegas.

Montréal is apparently still #1 on Dubois list, and Brisson might have been saying this just to get the 9M$ AAV

Truth is, you won't get a better offer than that

I think we could probably just deal him as a rental and get a better 1st round pick.

As I stated I would of taken that offer, but I wouldn't too hung up of PLD wanting 9 mil, all players want more then they get but he will absolutely get 8+ on a 8 year deal, anyone thinking he won't is dreaming.

It really does suck for Winnipeg to have this whole "Montreal thing" hanging over he entire situation like Damocles Sword.

Basically makes it impossible to get full value for the guy. Montreal don't have much reason to pony up a full value package to trade for him when they can anticipate they may well get him "for free" very soon.

Can't really get other buyers interested when the guy has already established a history of bolting or forcing his way out when he doesn't like the situation, and have that expectation that he's effectively a "rental" headed for Montreal at his earliest convenience.

Just a real cruddy situation to put the Jets in. On the other hand...if you're Montreal, you've gotta be loving it. If he's actually just setting up to become a Canadien, and telegraphing all the signs to make sure the Habs can keep all of their valuable pieces to surround him with when he arrives.

It could all blow up pretty badly though, if the eventual negotiations with Montreal don't go super well. I think if you're the Habs...you have to be careful how you handle that. You're not supposed to look a gift horse in the mouth...but i think in this case, you really have to think long and hard about whether this is a guy you're going to want to commit to as part of your core. There's no "undo" button on contracts, and if he decides at some point that he doesn't like Montreal so much after all...good luck finding a sucker to take that on after he's forced his way out of everywhere, including the team he was allegedly trying to ultimately get himself to.

what really sucks is that people ignore that he may be interested in signing long term with 5-6 teams and come here and say it's montreal or bust

True. But Dach and the player selected at five are both question marks. They might be the 2C the Habs need to build a winner. PLD is a proven player, who is still very young. Suzuki and PLD as the Habs’ 1-2 centres makes them for sure really strong down the middle. No question marks.
Well Dach was pacing at 53 points at 21 years old and really broke out in the second half of the season - Although his numbers doesn’t reflect that - mostly because he was playing with AHL players.

At this point I think I’m pretty confident he’s going to at least be able to produce/play a top center 6 role moving forward. Most likely as early as next year.

Deciphering the conditions surrounding that Calgary first round pick gives me a headache. Don’t pawn that on us!

Good chance it's not worse than the current one being offered so it might be the better pick to acquire but keeping track of it is a rough.
