LeBrun: Dubois wants out of Winnipeg, will not sign a contract for next season

With the Hellebuyck news, I'm reposting what I offered earlier

Dvorak (Ok center, a tad expensive contract, 2 years left. Ideally a 3rd center)

Hoffman (straight up cap dump, contract end at the end of the year. Could maybe be flipped at the tdl? Powerplay specialist, but dogshit on defense)

One of: Beck or Roy - both of them are solid prospects. Beck is a two ways center, in the mold of Phillip Danault IMO. Roy is excellent on offense, good on defense, à la Toffoli. IMO, Roy is the better prospect (he's a winger), but Beck plays center. Aside of Slaf and Hutson, those are probably our best prospects (with Mailloux)

One of: Barron or Harris - both of them have untapped potential, and both of them will play in the NHL for sure. I think that Barron has more tools, but Harris has more hockey IQ

Florida 1st 2023

For

PLD

I would do that

You’re assuming PLD is traded to Montreal. Imo PLD is traded to a team other than Montreal and that team will sign him long term. The Habs would definitely want PLD. They only have Suzuki as a centre now that’s really a top six guy.
That is fine if he goes elsewhere, he is a luxury at this time, not a need. The team is in a rebuild with some bad contracts from the previous regime to let run out before they can look at contending and where the holes are to fill them. Who knows maybe Dach will be a top 6 center by then or whomever they draft at #5 this year. The only way for me it makes sense to trade for him is if it speeds up the unloading of 2 of Armia, Hoffman and Dvorak in the process.

...Habs won't, hopefully...too much...take out Beck/Roy and add Calgary's 1st...

Talk to the Habs fan who posted not me, but I will say I think your offering more with the Flames pick. Depending on what they do this summer and how it turns out next year, that Flames 1st could be "very good". Beck is at most a late 1st value, that Flames pick could be much more valuable.

Off topic, but the proposal board is way busier than the SCF board. Kind of crazy.
That kinda makes sense tbh. Fans of the 30 other teams are naturally gonna be more interested in this kind of stuff at the start of a fresh offseason. Vegas and Florida fans also don't have a super large presence on HF compared to some other teams

I see. Yes, that makes good sense. PLD makes the Habs better too quick. Without him they will very likely be drafting top five again in 2024. Better for their rebuild.

Dach is getting there and we could easily pick a guy at 5 that would/could become a top 6 Center.

Pld ain't gonna be the difference right now. I feel he's being somewhat overrated here. Right now he's a 60 point 2 center. That's what he Is. He seems to miss games yearly with injury and sometimes the compete level ain't there. This goes back to junior with him. He disappears for long stretches. I think even with pld Montreal is still bottom 10 team

At this point now Jets likely have absolutely no interest in Dvorak.

My thought is you try to flip Dvorak for a pick along with Hoffman for a pick......neither add any value to the Jets assuming a rebuild. Hoffman is a bit harder to flip bc he's bad, but he also is a UFA so not as bad

DVorak also has an 8 team no trade list. Wanna guess whose on it?

I think there is still some projection for him because big guys can take longer to get there. Does he actually have another level? Not 100% that’s for sure.

kicks in July 1st

Oh true. Either way I want no part in trying to flip something the Habs can't even get rid of.

PLD trade will be done before it kicks in

True but either way like I said above. If the Habs can't even get rid of the kid why should we try?
Not worth it, move onto the next team.

Not to mention that once his new NTC kicks in, its even harder for us to move him.

Lots of stuff happening around the league and the playoff board features two of the teams with smaller fan bases on the forum.

I mean just over 5 years ago that Florida pick isn't even considered a 1st rounder....
Why stop at 6 years. If we go back to 1963, there wasn’t even a 31st pick! That’s about as relevant as what you’re talking about.

Dach is getting there and we could easily pick a guy at 5 that would/could become a top 6 Center.
True. But Dach and the player selected at five are both question marks. They might be the 2C the Habs need to build a winner. PLD is a proven player, who is still very young. Suzuki and PLD as the Habs’ 1-2 centres makes them for sure really strong down the middle. No question marks.

When Subban was traded, his NTC clause was voided for the duration of his deal, wonder if it's the same for all players?

Is it? In 6 years did the talent level in the draft change so massively that all the sudden picks 31 and 32 are vastly better and more likely to hit than they were 6 years ago?

No, it didn't.

Point went over your head. You’re arguing over 1-2 spots to try and downplay the pick. This is 2023. Not 2016. We move with the times. It’s a first round pick.
