I realise he was on pace for 30 goals and 70 points this year, but hes played over 5 full seasons in the NHL and has never actually hit those numbers. 9 Million seems like quite a lot for that production. Especially in a world where many Centers are blowing those numbers out of the water for less money.

I guess I'm asking if he's actually asking for that much? Seems kind of ridiculous to ask over 8.000 IMO
Also he won't be a center on the Habs, we have Suzuki and Dach at center, If he's on the team next year I would put him here:

Dubois - Suzuki - Caufield
Slafkovsky - Dach - Harvey Pinard

I may not have been clear. I was specifically talking about the NHL.

Comments along the lines of "We'll just sign him for free" just remind me a lot of Flyers fans being convinced they would get Bobby Ryan, and countless other similar "coming home" theories that pretty much never work out (in the NHL).

When it comes to auction items, I'm sure you're far more educated on that than I am, and will take your word for it.
I watch Brandi on Storage wars too.

The Habs are going to out smart themselves here…. They don’t need him bad enough to pay the price (his contract demands and needed assets) Someone else will take him on and the world will keep spinning … Montreal will keep playing hockey and so will Winnipeg….This is my guess

That could actually be the smartest move. We won't know until years down the road. It comes down to what they do with the cap savings instead, and even that would be difficult to attribute.

Think he only wants that much to sign with a team that can’t win anytime soon… He will take less for a contender according to the article….

Stuff you buy and sell at auction doesn't have a say in the process. Hockey players do. If Winterpeg flips him to a team he's willing to commit to, there is no circling back in a year.
He has a market value and you may assume the cost obtaining right now is higher than what it is right now. If the price makes sense right now then the Habs should do it otherwise wait a year. There is a curve in the window of opportunity of winning a cup that should be observed. Assets should arrive at the efficient time.

Teams used to make players sit in this case.

Actually not too long ago. Didn't Yzerman do that with Drouin?

They can circle back in a year and reevaluate in a year with the option of getting him without the expense of giving up assets.
So, y’know…the reports are saying that Dubois is looking at signing an 8-year deal and will present Winnipeg 5-6 teams to negotiate with.

Why are people like you still yammering about getting him for free next year lol?

The "IF" is important here along as the concept of the the concept of risk management.

Well you guys are going to get him for next to nothing....personally speaking, I would be thrilled to get a young potential great player for nothing....even with some of his attitude problems....I think those traits will disappear when he is playing in Montreal, a place it seems he has always wanted to be.....

I'm in the 1/3 rd group who'd offer a trouba esque package. I agree

If might be a poor word here. He will be traded to someone he signs with.
And that will be beared out over the next month. The presumption on this thread is what ever the Habs offer will be taken as an insult. The market will set his value.

I think an important point to consider is that even if PLD takes less on an AAV, the endorsement money he will make in Montreal would more than make up for any perceived “shortfall” he might be offered on a contract from the Habs.
And yet the reports are he wants top dollar to play in Montreal and will not give a discount …. Strange

There’s a lot of speculation and no real answers we’re hearing. Until a deal is announced, who knows? We’re all just guessing, I simply mentioned it as something that warrants consideration and could play a factor in his choices.
