A publication you may have heard of - THE HOCKEY NEWS - rated Raty as the 35th best prospect in hockey. That is not a B level guy.

In comparison, Ferrell nor Mailloux made the top 100.

I take the rating of THN way before the word of some fan on this board.
If you search for the name ‘’Ferrell’’ you won’t find him in the top 100, no. But Farrell is 41th, though.

He's already better than Dubois when all factors are taken into consideration. They're both second line players, but one is going to be overpaid by about four million dollars if he gets the contract he's been pursuing, while the other will be marginally underpaid.

The difference between Dach as a fifty point player next year and Dubois as a regular sixty point player is insignificant in that sole regard.

Dubois is so radically overrated, here and in his own mind.

Wow, I guess Dach and his 38 points despite 66% ozone starts and his 38.3% faceoff percentage (fourth worst in the entire league) sure smells like a proven superstar.

So Suzuki and Caulfield are both overpaid by about $3.5 million then?

I think it's the opposite. Get the team's offer and then let them work out the deal.

That seems quite inefficient and full of flaw. It would allow him to veto every trade by being obstinate in negotiations.

Why would WPG be ok with this given its a very foreseeable scenario? It seems kind of backwards. In theory, he has less leverage than Horvat did as a pending FA. And he's already brought his queen out.

The opposite is he talks to all the teams and then comes back to Winnipeg and says "I'm only going to Montreal, and I told them that", and now Montreal has no bidding competition.

Right. 96 points in his draft year. 100 in his d+1.
Correct. Both have/had different ceiling. Suzuki vision is what makes him very dangerous offensively. Beck ceiling is more of a solid two-way Center. Think Danault-type of C. Still very, very useful player.

Guhle, not what I’m expecting just what I would want. Big difference
Can’t blame you. Unfortunate that he got injured on a freak play (I think it was Malkin who fell awkwardly on his leg). He was quite dominent at only 21 when he was on the ice.

This is completely absurd

It’s really ignorant to say that in the best situation for Montreal, it’s a lateral move.

Good Lord…Dach’s further progression is not guaranteed. He probably won’t turn out to be as good as Dubois.

It is a lateral move. We gain points but lose ~5mil in salary and get a headache to deal with. There's a near zero chance MTL moves Dach in a trade for Dubois, it just doesn't make sense for the team.

Fantasize as much as you want about whatever leverage/pressure/gun-to-the-head Chevy has with a player holding out and dictating who he gets traded to, but it really doesn't make any sense. MTL/Hughes has a long term plan and vision for the team that likely doesn't involve sacrificing key building blocks for Dubois. As far as I can tell, MTL is in a position to comfortably walk away from a deal that doesn't suit them, WPG loses an asset/value of an asset the longer they wait.

Good luck
Yea thanks. I’m going to need luck to get through a thread without mtl fans thinking they already know what happens instead of letting the thing play out.

Yep need that cap to get players like Monohan and other teams rejects. But at some point teams need to pay for talent.

honestly, I'd do Chytil+Schneider+24th for Dubois
the only question with the Rangers is how do they squeeze PLD into their cap structure for more than a year? I really have no clue. You can't be paying him more than 7.5 for it to really work and even then, it's tricky. The cap does rise next year I guess but it's still gonna be tight, too tight.

Lafreniere-Dubois-Kakko
would be a real heavy line. would love to see it

Jets fans accept. Dubois might take 7.5M x8 to play in NYR. That team would be so fun to watch. Could take Goodrow as a CAP back scenario and replace with cheaper option back to NYR.

Hab fans, is there a consensus on wanting PLD on your team? I mean getting a young solid player for next to nothing is an attractive option....however, are some Hab fans concerned about PLD attitude?

No consensus we have a poll. With 3 options. Don't want him even if it's for free is last but it's over 10%. Most only want him if it's as a UFA or basically nothing by trade.

And it's mostly because of attitude concerns/belief he is operated. Only about 1/3 of our board wants to trade for him at anything more than insignificant.

Well you guys are going to get him for next to nothing....personally speaking, I would be thrilled to get a young potential great player for nothing....even with some of his attitude problems....I think those traits will disappear when he is playing in Montreal, a place it seems he has always wanted to be.....
