I know jets fans keep saying this, but I can't think of an example we're what I think jets fans are expecting has happened. I think it's a futures heavy return with a piece that allows them to say there going to be competitive. Weird comparable now that I'm thinking about it but the 2018 trade of Pacioretty is actually probably pretty close when Montreal used to resist rebuilds the same way it sounds like the Jets are now.

Pacioretty at the time, was going into his final year one year from UFA, wasn't happy in the environment and was willing to sign with a new team in fact in the middle of it he dropped Brisson who was pushing him towards LA. He had a bad year but up until that point he was 30-40 goal scorer with Desharnais in a defensive system.

The trade ended up being
Pacioretty for
Tatar, - Who was seen as a cap dump overpaid 15 goal scorer
Suzuki - When he was 19 and looked like the worst of the three Vegas Picks - (Glass, Brannstrom and Suzuki) and a 2nd. The report was that the habs asked for Glass and we're shot down.

What happened after is that Tatar turned back the clock and became a 25 goal scorer while Max regressed and Suzuki blossomed the following year during the memorial cup run with Guelph.

I don't think the Jet's will get a young roster player like Dach, Schneider or another player in a similar mold but I do expect they'll either get a recent top 15 pick player whose still in the junior leagues and a 2nd along with a 15 goal scorer or a higher recent draftee and a later 1st and the same 15 goal scorer (or D)

A futures heavy return and Winnipeg being able to say they're staying competitive isn't compatible. Futures returns don't usually make the team receiving them better in the short term.

I'm not sure who the recent top 15 pick on offer is but he's not going to make team better.

Regardless, Dubois is the least interesting piece to me of the Winnipeg 4. It doesn't matter if the return is futures or win now if Hellebuyck is moved so who really cares if it's Dvorak or Dach or Beck if the goaltending can't paper over the other issues the team has.

and if he is willing to extend long term with 5-6 teams then they can easily figure out that it's not only montreal he is willing to go to
I don't think that's what Friedmann's articulating, it's more like he wanted out of columbus and to MTL, last draft he said he wanted to be in MTL and wanted out again, the question is if I trade all these players or prospects is he going to do the same to me as a different teams GM. I think Friedmann's over estimating though as a simple phone call to Dubois from that team could alleviate any concerns

Example, If i told columbus I want to go to these ten teams, Then I get to winnipeg and say I want to go to these ten teams and it's always the same teams then it's not really an issue if it's always the same teams for valid reasons.

A futures heavy return and Winnipeg being able to say they're staying competitive isn't compatible. Futures returns don't usually make the team receiving them better in the short term.

I'm not sure who the recent top 15 pick on offer is but he's not going to make team better.

If you read the report though it's that they don't want a Futures only return, but it's not a hockey trade only return, they want a package of both that's why I think the pacioretty return is the most comparable as it's what the Habs did and we're doing in 2018 trying to stay competitive while we had price.

He's such a POS
He might be, but teams do this all the time too. A player just gets a phone call: "hey, you've been traded to so-and-so, pack your bags your flight leaves in an hour".

It's how it goes in the NHL. Also, seems like a lot of players don't like Winnipeg. Something in the water or shitty leadership?

Dach has had more games in the NHL which is why I posted the stats after the same amount of games. He's progressing at a better rate at this point in his career than Dach was (although marginally).

Since you Habs fans love talking about scoring rates, Newhook is scoring at a higher rate than dach was at the same point in their careers, therefore according to you guys he's better

That's alright if you're trying to convince his family, but they are the same age and Dach doubled his production last year in %. In the meantime, Newhook had a little step back. Also Dach is much more physical.

That being said, i wish Newhook all the success and i'm sure he'll keep improving from this point forward. My point was, IMO, Dach has much more value to other GMs

Elliotte Friedmann - “I’ve had people say to me “It’s simple, you trade Dubois to Montreal and you ask for Dach.” I think if it were that simple, it would be done already, so I don’t think it’s that simple.”

Arpon has also said - "they don't know how they'd fit Dubois with Dach which makes them hesitant and there happy with his development"

That suggests to me that Dach isn't on the table, not to mention that I'd like to know which other team would give up a player of Dachs quality and age for him?
Brisson also needs to negotiate a long-term deal with the Habs before a trade, so there is going to be a lot of jockeying on both the trade and contract front. If Hughes agrees to the Jets' trade conditions quickly, it puts more pressure on Brisson to agree to the Habs' contract conditions.

I doubt that anyone really knows which teams are in the mix (other than the Habs) or what the trade parameters might look like. The only sure thing is that there is going to be a lot of jockeying between the Habs, Jets and Brisson, which will result in various messages through their favourite media conduits.

The Pacioretty return only worked because Tatar had a miracle rebound and Montreal was fortunate that Suzuki turned out to be better than the guy they originally wanted. Even then, were Montreal really better? You were trying to extend a competitive window because of Price, the Jets won't have that reason either.

You also said you expected Winnipeg to get a recent top 15 pick back in a trade, who is that player, or an example of some of those players?

Again, I'm far more interested In Hellebuyck's return. The team isn't going to get full value for Dubois and that's fine.

Its small and cold. End of story.

Leadership for the Laine deal, for sure. Otherwise it's lifestyle (Kane), wife only able to do medical residency in New York (Trouba), or wanting to be closer to home (Dubois).

It's a small, cold city that has some positives, but not ones that most hockey players can get elsewhere.

And that will probably only happen in a sign and trade deal.
I agree.

I actually think that's why the Habs will give up more assets that people will be happy with.

It will come with an extension that fits into the core cap structure, but it will be well worth it.

To many ppl on here think they really do have a say in any of this when none of us do at all so ppl need to chill and stop the bs. So much bs over something nobody here has control over.

MODS should kill this. All this for a 60 point 2 center who gets hurt every year. Dude is gonna get more money than Suzuki and Caufield and isn't that lovely

Here is what I think is going on.

Jets do not want to rebuild. They still have core pieces to compete. Montreal has mediocre prospects. Any of the real value is contained in players that Montreal doesn't want to trade, like Dach.

Realizing that Montreal is not offering a package that Winnipeg is remotely interested in, Dubois' camp is now reaching out to other teams. I expect part of this is to finally put a gun to Montreal's head that they either need to step up and offer something of value that Winnipeg is interested in or lose their opportunity of bringing home a top 6 francophone center.

To me, the question now is whether Hughes will finally relent and offer up a package that includes Dach. I simply do not see another valid package coming from Montreal.

Time to sh*t or get off the pot already. Chevy has grinded you down to make a call here. What's it going to be (and the question is to Montreal management who probably love the idea of having a francophone core player to market around)?

No, don't think so. WPG and Dubois have a problem they need to resolve in the immediate future, MTL doesn't.

MTL isn't going to move Dach. It's - at best - a lateral move with a lot of risk and salary taken on by the Habs. At this time, there's no gun to the Habs' head or desperation to get a deal done. The media pressure is pretty tame re: francophone players and that really doesn't appear to be a significant factor for Gorton/Hughes. If the player wants to be in MTL, he can figure out a way to do that when he's a UFA or when there's a deal that makes sense. Hughes is a solid negotiator with a long-term plan in place that doesn't require trading for Dubois. Habs can comfortably walk away from a deal that doesn't suit their needs or value - Dach isn't holding out, between Suzuki/Dach/5OA the Habs have their C position set, and our "mediocre" prospects are progressing nicely.

WPG and Dubois are under pressure to get a deal done. Every other team - MTL or otherwise - are not.

Yeah, movies aren't real either, we should ban them

If you think the contrat with Horvat wasn't discussed before the trade happened you are delusionnal.

And the fact he is younger doesn't change anything. One is a 60pt C the other one is a PPG C.
At the same age, Horvat was a 60 pt centre.

I don't know much about the player, and I'm not sure it's been discussed earlier. If Dach is that valuable to Montreal and the Jets wanted him, what would be the add from Winnipeg in your opinion?
It’s simply not an option at this point.
Does Winnipeg really have an obligation to trade him where he wants to go (Montreal apparently)?

I'm not sure if they're going to accomodate him unless Montreal offers the best package.
They do not but they have an obligation to trade him for the best possible return and that would be the one where he signs a 8 year extension.

One of the many reasons why Dach shouldn’t be of interest to Winnipeg. After all, ya’ll are looking for players will will grow and produce offensively. Apparently Dach isn’t that

Which is fair, my point being that I don’t think they want a hockey trade Ala tkachuk because In Tkachuk’s case they got the same amount of team control back from the panthers and I don’t believe the jets feel they could get the players signed whereas the flames thought they could. I think they’d want team control more then anything else. I think what I’m trying to articulate is the win now piece will be lesser value then the futures piece but will still have value

In any case I actually didn’t mean to attack you personally or in general any jets fan it was more a comment on the trade itself and what I’m seeing generally in here your actually one of my favorite jets posters to read

Its possible the Jets might get a more heavy futures return once they evaluate the 5-6 returns from the various teams, the Jets might go ok the win now pieces being offered are bad so we will go with the greater value package which happens to be a futures heavy return. Its possible yes.

I suspect if they happened then they would be targeting near NHL ready prospects (like ready next year) and less about prospects 3-4 years down the road.

All this talk about Dach, he wouldn't even be the guy I would even want from the Habs if I was Chevy.

Have you ever been to Winnipeg in the middle of January? The players don't care too much, because they are at the rink or on the road, but the WAG's are sitting at home watching birds drop dead from the cold.

I am not even sure why Montreal would entertain moving Dach. He fits in with their timeline and had a good season. Slaf/PLD/Dach would be one hell of huge pain in the ass line to play against.

No, I've never been to Winnipeg.

I guess it's really hard to be an NHL players WAG though, because who the hell would want to suffer a few months a year in order for hubby to make millions playing hockey. I mean they could get a job and hobbies for themselves, but naah...

Life is hard for gold diggers.

It's small and it's cold. Just like my ex-girlfriend.

I hope he knows that being so selective with what team he wants to play for will give that team basically all of the negotiation power. If I'm MTL, I'm not offering a dime over 7 million over 8 years. Even that is a little rich for me.

I don't think you're being fair really. Winters in the prairies are some of the worst in the world. Most of us don't ever consider moving because of family or work, but for a hockey player (and his "gold digging" wife) who have no ties, I can definitely understand the desire to get out to a more reasonable climate.
