A lot of that depends on who the other 4 or 5 teams are and what those teams offer. Do those teams have cap space and do they have the pieces the Jets want.

I'm curious. Lets say Dubois is traded to the Habs via the Trouba trade value (20th pick and Pionk). Who are the Jets going to be upset with? The Habs/Dubois for him wanting to come home or the Jets GM for trading Laine/Rost thinking they can convince Dubois to stay? Call me crazy but I am pretty sure most GM's knew Dubois was interested in the Habs when he asked out of Columbus. Seemed like a big risk for the Jets GM to take IMO.

We were trying to be competitive and needed another top 6. At the time he kind of just fell into our lap so Chevy deemed it worth the risk for the on ice value. The fact the team was dysfunctional as all hell during that time is a different story.

Yeah I have maintained that Winnipeg would likely be better off finding a different dance partner than montreal, even a 25 game rental would likely return more than Montreal should be willing to offer.

Yeah its likely we find another partner here unless Hughes circles back.

Jets want cap back, the cap will be for productive players not cap dumps. They are organizing hockey trade just like the Flames/Panthers did. If there was any takers on DVorak going into the TDL we all know Habs would of traded him, but there was no one interested so his value is very low and potentially negative in the eyes of GM's. Jets don't want a bunch of prospects or futures to make up the big part of the return, honestly I don't see the Habs being able to even make a competitive offer with their roster of vets/win now players. Anderson IMO is the only one who might hold positive or any ok value at this stage and his contract is terrible, specifically the term. Even Habs fans hate his term and know its going to be a problem.

PS: Its been a while, hoping the summer is going well and the smoke out there isn't too bad.

It will be very interesting on what the trade ends up being. Who was close and who was far off. Be careful with what we say today I guess. Because fans are going to bounce past comments forward.

Sounds like you're flying high on hope. Best wishes partner.
Like all Habs fans. That's all they have. Hope Slaf isn't the bust he looks like he might be. Hope that Dach becomes the 2nd line centre of their dreams. Hope that mini-cole can stay healthy for a season. Hope they can find a goalie. And on and on

Yeah but seemed risky to me. Lets see if they can recoup Laine/Rost for Dubois value on the Dubois next trade. Very curious to see how this plays out. I personally don't see the Jets having much leverage. Dubois controls this

We have a good rebuilding track that stands to improve. We are aware that it may or may not end up like we hope it will but the track is positive at the moment with lots of great development going on on several young NHL players and players not turned pro yet. Our draft power has been very high for several drafts now.

Jets are the ones who took the chances at trading Laine/Rost for Dubois. That's not the Habs fault he don't want to stay. And I'm pretty sure most GM's knew Dubois was interested in the Habs when he asked out of Columbus.

He's still only 24, and with his apparent red flags, he may be worth a stab. He's not going to be paid upper tier which I like, and he still has a lot of growth in his game. For the GM that bets correctly, this could be a good risk-reward move.

Dach+ or Suzuki was the ask. We don't know what the plus was but presumably included a draft pick.
There's two timelines complicating it, Suzuki was discussed when he was with Columbus. The reported ask back then was Suzuki + our first when we we're trending to miss the playoffs (the guhle pick) which berg said no too. The Dach ask is this year when he was discussed during the season I don't think the suzuki ask was serious, seeing as soon as the rumors dropped last year suzuki was trending around the same as Dubois but was signed for 8 more years at that point.

Yeah just yesterday it seemed a lot worse. Now that his agent has come out and said they are open to signing long term with more than just Montreal we have a bit more control back. As long as both sides are willing to play ball we should get some value back. Unlikely it is worth the full value but it shouldn't be next to nothing either.

I wish I had a comeback for a Winnipeg fan at this time but I'm at a loss. Like the PLD trade, you seem to be dealing from a position of strength. Things are going so well for you guys right now.

I think if it montreal, both fanbases wont be happy let's land there

Yeah I think the ask shifted to just Dach at some point. Though we don't fully know if anything else was involved then.

Oh, is it because you find it impossible to forgive someone regarding one incident which took place when they were 17-years old, even though there is nothing to suggest they have done anything wrong since?

If they're contrite about it, sure. Playing in the NHL is a pretty big privilege though, not a right. Don't want to comment on it further.

I don't know much about the player, and I'm not sure it's been discussed earlier. If Dach is that valuable to Montreal and the Jets wanted him, what would be the add from Winnipeg in your opinion?
No interest in trading two nickels for a dime. Even if you add a few pennies.

PLD and Dach are the same value or maybe just a bit more for Dach because of his age and contract. Adding a B prospect doesn't move the needle. Nor does a late second.

I don't see the Jets adding an A prospect, which makes no sense for them.

There is a possibility of a bigger trade involving those pieces BUT again the Habs want to add to the core that includes Dach, not swap dimes for nickels.

Let's see what happens...

I'd like to spend some energy trying to guess who the 5 or 6 teams are.

Habs
Avs
Canes
???
???
???

Habs, Rangers and Wild were listed. Good chance that LA is on that list as well. Other two are the big unknowns but I wouldn't doubt that Toronto is also on that list. Seems he wants big markets and Minny for some reason.

Meh I don't what others say, I'm too old to care.

Besides I have never stated PLD will return a king's ransom, even now he won't.

But:

Jets aren't going to be forced to take on cap dumps, just like Flames/Panthers trade.

Jets don't want a futures heavy return

Jets want win now pieces, they want cap back but it will be a hockey trade.

Jets, PLD are working on a 8 year deal to swing a sign and trade with one of 5-6 teams.

I'm not expecting a king's ransom, but some fans keep repeating the Jets are screwed, Jets have to take our cap dump & 2nd rd pick, etc are just plain wrong. Jets will work out a hockey trade, PLD is working with the Jets to make it happen, no clue where he ends up, there will be no king's ransom, but there will be more then spare scraps and cap dumps in the return. Nothing here is unfair that I've stated, anyone who wants to quote me on that I would glad laugh at them if they did.

For sure, and I think the ask shifted on Dach around the same time Dach shifted the narrative on himself, people forget that last summer dach was seen as a bust. Go read the draft thread and even the random chicago fan who thinks hes still terrible. After he was paired with Suzuki and Caufield for a bit his offensive output improved and then he stared leading his own line once Monahan went down.

There are things we just won't find out. I hope we do find out who all those 5 or 6 teams are though. What if Dubois would sign with other teams but only if it's $9M-$10M range? Kind of like how Huberdeau signed with the Flames? Yeah, I stay but only if it's max AAV. Just speculating though.

Give me one team who
1- Has the cap space to sign Dubois
2- Has a piece as good as Dach (please don't say Newhook lol) and is willing to lose on a good value contract for a slight upgrade

Answer is none. Avs can't afford Dubois unless Landeskog calls it qui, and even then they need to sign Toews and Byram to substantial raises. Most contenders can't afford Dubois due to cap space and would rather keep their yount cost controlled player than trade for an 8M$ forward

If Dubois list is something like
Habs
Avs
Tampa
Florida
NYR

Jets are screwed as the 4 other trams can't afford him
Why isn't Newhook comparable to Dach?

Newhook over his first 3 seasons:
159gp 27g 39a 66pts 0.42 points per game

Dach over his first 3 seasons:
152gp 19g 40a 59pts .39 points per game

Looks pretty close to me

Wild makes sense to me. They do need centers.

Rangers? Wondering about their cap space and who they try to trade? Would they dangle Lafreniere? Very possible. Then what... what NHL contract? I don't think they have the cap room to add Dubois without a guy like Trocheck going the other way.

Would the Rangers do it? Trocheck and Lafreniere?

Yeah its gonna be interesting to see how it unfolds and I'm hoping its just resolved as soon as possible so we can focus on the draft.
