The Islanders would’ve done due diligence on what they were actually getting with Horvat. That extension didn’t just appear out of thin air. And I said it in an earlier post to another guy. You’re trying to make the narrative you’re deserving of the value of Dubois signed to 8 years. That’s not what’s happening here. Anyone inquiring about him is looking to pay the price for his final year and the right to talk to him. That does not mean you’re entitled to the value of whatever you would get if you had him controlled for 8 years.

There is no "right to talk to him" his agent has agreed to a sign and trade with those teams. Its a done deal when the trade is completed.

Habs have some decent (meaning solid but not sure can't miss types) albeit not great futures/prospects. If the Jets want futures as a big part of the return I think the Habs can put together a solid offer with a heavy leaning on futures. But the problem is the Jets have stated they want win now pieces and the Habs don't have any win now pieces that really hold any significant value aka Dvorak or Anderson. So that means Habs offers have to be heavy on futures and sounds like the Jets don't want that.
I dont see many teams giving up valuable roster players in "hockey" trades for guys that will be UFA soon.

The Jets might not have a choice in the end. Take futures or lose them for nothing....

What are the terms of this 8 year deal?

No one knows yet. All we know is his agent has agreed to a sign and trade. Which means there is no negotiation process happening post trade. Its all done the moment the trade happens. Provided its one of the teams hes willing to sign with.

Like Flames/Panthers didn't? Both got very good players

Does Dvorak even have positive trade value? We all know Habs would of traded him in a heart beat if they could going into last TDL but no buyers on him so his value is very low.

Dvorak, Beck, and Panthers pick is my max point and I personally would consider it. I'm just as high on Beck as you and other Habs fans are but you seen the center depth we would have if we include Beck.

Including Beck in the Dubois trade is very similar to using Romanov+ to get Dach. It's trading from a position of strength in the pool like it was trading A LD in Romanov.

Don't bother replying if that is your reply. Causes post wars on stupid stuff.

Apparently, Lou made the trade blind with no information on his chances at extending Horvat but Dubois with a 8 year extension increases his value 10X. That's the narrative you will get back.

Also, The 5 or 6 teams on Dubois list all have cap space and proven young players like Dach they are willing to trade.

then you post

"Apparently, Lou made the trade blind with no information on his chances at extending Horvat but Dubois with a 8 year extension increases his value 10X. That's the narrative you will get back. "

if you can't see that there is a major difference between thinking you can get an extension done and actually having a guaranteed extension then idk what to tell you...

Just like Matt Tkachuk. PLD is RFA with no existing contract come July. So no tampering issues or permission needed. So new team can speak with him to know the ask.

Yeah not sure how this is a hard concept for people to understand.

Yeah I think there's an RFA window of sorts. Don't remember the exact details on that. Either way this is nothing at all like the Horvat situation.

PLD isn't MT but he's still a very good young player and will return a solid package of players back. I'm not expect any king's ransom but Dvorak is borderline cap dump far cry from a good player and Jets don't want a heavy futures return.

apparently having good vibes that you can extend a player is exactly the same as having him actually signed to the contract at the time of the trade

We do? Has he or his agent said that cause as of right now that could be a leak by The Jets to get The Habs to pay more in fear they could lose him.

If you say so.
well that would make little sense, mtl could easily figure out that they are the only team he would be willing to extend with when they are talking contract with brisson

I'd say he has some value but not much. It's more so a value neutral piece who plays the same position going to other way because in a cap league money almost always goes both ways.

You’re arguing semantics. Whoever trades for Dubois is trading for a contract Winnipeg couldn’t otherwise sign.

I'm a fan of Dubois but Dach for him is not going to ever happen. Period.

At this point, Dubois is becoming less and less attractive given his 9 x 8 demand AND what the Jets may want.

To me it's pretty simple. If he wants to be a Hab it's up to him. He doesn't sign for a trade and waits next year to walk away and sign with the Habs. That 9x8 yhen is palatable. Otherwise it's just another PR stunt that I don't care to be part of.

At this point, lots of noise and little content...

Show me a single quote where his agent or PLD said its Habs and no one else. I'll wait

In fact its now being reported they are doing the opposite to what your making up in your own head to fit your own narrative. His agent is saying they will give a list of 5-6 teams PLD is willing to extend long term with.

jets fans don't care where he goes, Habs or who ever. I'm not expecting any kings ransom albeit the news has improved his return in the last 24 hours. But offering a borderline cap dump and expecting the Jets have to take offer or thats the best offer is just plain wrong.

I get your point but I still wouldn't deal Beck. Fla 1st and Harris is my max, maybe add a b level prospect too but that's about it....

Hard to know how much they value Harris. I guess we are about to find out what Dubois's trade value is. Should happen from now till draft day.

If we can get away without trading Beck, I'm down. I just am not sure

Sure but same as the Tkachuk trade.

Jets want cap back, thats not any issue they have tons of cap space.......but the point is they aren't taking a cap dump as the return. Dvorak IMO value has dropped ALOT since the Habs traded for him, not even sure if he's worth a 2nd rd pick at this stage. Habs would of traded him going into the TDL if they could of, but no one was interested or the return was so low they couldn't do it to save face.

Dach is on the verge of becoming a PLD type player. Every single Habs fan knows this. Anyone suggesting the Habs give up a younger version of PLD for current PLD simply don't know Dach. Absolute non-starter for reasons covered copious amounts in this thread.

Winnipeg is not in a power position here. They are set up to get fleeced.

The Habs offer of Dvorak, Harris/Beck and Florida 1st is about spot on to what I expect.
I don't know much about the player, and I'm not sure it's been discussed earlier. If Dach is that valuable to Montreal and the Jets wanted him, what would be the add from Winnipeg in your opinion?
