My biggest concern with the Habs accommodating a trade for PLD (and giving up assets) is the requirement to sign him to a 8M+ longterm contract. Inevitably it would include a NMC and with PLD's flakiness, could be an unmitigated disaster.

The smart play is to stay the course, give Dach the 2C role, and see where they stand next offseason. No need to do an unforced error with PLD.

I just hope Hughes plays this smart. He has young guns, some of which will break out, and will need to get paid.

Avs would be crazy not to jump on this opportunity, even if its for a rental.
You're not wrong. Unfortunately PLD is French. MTL will pay whatever it takes to get him even if it is a terrible trade for the Habs.

Vancouver got the 17th OA in a deep draft. That's considered a "late 1st"?

I dunno about you... but I think there is a HUGE difference between 17 OA and 31 OA.
Nucks got a playoff teams 1st, a B prospect and a dump, for a guy who's a ppg C.

No one knew where the Isles pick would end. Nucks got lucky maybe, but that's bot the point. At the time of the trade they didn't know if they had the 17th or the 27th pick.

Zero surprise here. He always wanted to go to Montreal. He’s made that known. It would be more of a surprise if he didn’t end up there.

Horvat is 3 years older than Dubois. That is a key factor in value. Isles didn't get Horvat as a signed player, so they had to gamble that they could sign him long-term.

Horvat will be 35 years old in the final season of his 8 year contract. Dubois would be 32.
PLD hasn't signed. Teams trading for him will trade for his rights, he's a rental of 1year until proven otherwhise.

Oh the burn. Ouch. Montreal has to get invited to the playoffs in a bubble where no players wanted to be and they think they are good cause teams just want to get the season over with? It hurts so much. It will be funny when in 2033 when hab fans are still talking about that year…..is that Bruce Springsteen I hear playing in the background…..Glory Days…20 years ago…Glory Days
Has there ever been a day for winnipeg fans? Or just a series of moderate disappointments

And there isna huge difference between a PPG 1C and a 60pts 2nd C.

And at the time of the trade, NYI pick was not 17oa. It was a pick from a playoff team thay could've ended anywhere between 16 and 32

"The Dubois camp will submit a list of teams that he would have interest in signing with long-term, maybe five or six teams."

"The plan is for this to be a sign-and-trade, where the Jets sign Dubois to an eight-year contract and then trade him to his new team. Dubois could not get an eight-year deal if he signed directly with that team"

but I guess you want to ignore that to try to make the value lesser..

I think it's going to be like tkachuk, he'll get traded with a contract signed in the same moment for 8 years at like 8.5-9.

In terms of a trade, I think the framework ends up being a 1st, a B prospect or 2 and a player (3rd line center, 2nd line winger, 2nd pair D). regardless of the team.

I'm more curious on what his list could be and which teams could make it work?

MTL is the obvious one but then there's five more? NYR are an obvious guess, but then who else and who can fit him without major surgery by the 1st

If he signs a cheap offer sheet and the Jets match he can't be trade.:D
it's like people don't read anything.... no shit... I said the contending team that had traded for him would welcome that offer sheet, he's getting traded by the jets before an os is even available to him.. and it doesn't even matter anymore since he seems like he's willing to sign long term with 5-6 teams

i think the os is out the window now seeing the news from the Athletic artical
I think it's still available but the risk is less for sure, whose to say the avs dont offer him comp thats a 1 yr deal that gets the jets a 1st, 3rd. Removes jets ability to trade anything him and walks him to free agency without the ability to trade him. He'll be traded by July 1 for sure

he will be traded before an offer sheet is even available too one of the 5-6 teams he is willing to extend long term with

a 2nd line who would have lead your team in scoring.
You better believe Chevy is offering PLD to Montreal for 5OA. I wonder how that conversation goes. WPG also picks at 18, maybe they have to get creative.

3 years ago he was traded for the recent 2ndOA - 40 goal scorer - Laine.

Has his value dropped during his time in WPG? Perhaps, but I wouldn't say a ton. He's still only 24 and went 3OA in 2016.

A sign and trade with a deal in place to play in Montreal - say 7 years at 7.5 million. Could make it interesting.
The sticking point is how nasty this draft is. No one wants to give away a golden ticket this year and at 5 there is a ton of talent.

I believe the Islanders were outside the playoffs when they made that trade.

It's amusing that there was complete wild speculation that it REALLY COULD BE the 27th pick. Dude, get serious lol.

Read the title.

Then ask yourself why PLD would sign an offersheet that the Jets might feel forced to match.

Dude, you're delusional if you think the whole culinary world thinks Montreal has literally the best food in North America.

NYC has 5 of the top 100 restaurants in the world in 2022. Montreal has literally zero. That's not my personal opinion. That's a ranking you can google.. based on culinary experts opinions.

You clearly need to get out more. Lmao
Man, sometimes a McDouble is the best burger in the planet

Going back to his last year in junior (2017) he has requested three trades and will be on his fifth team before he starts his 8th year, I feel sorry for any team that signs him long term because I doubt he’ll change his attitude.
Picking where you want to play isn't an attitude problem whatsoever. Using your very little leverage you have against these greedy owners is great. More young players should use their power like in the NBA. Glad to see teams lose more and more power to the players.
