Yah, but doing so they can't trade hom at the TDL and he walks free.

I'm Kent hughes I go.

Look PL. We're going to hand you a 4.25 OS, and give you a 8x8 extension at the the end of the year.

Jets match = PLD walks free and Jets get nothing
Jets don't they get a 2nd
Jets trade him now : they get a late 1st a B prospect and a cap dump (like Horvat)

Those are the only 3 scenario
You forgot a 4th scenario : Jets match, PLD stays home. And that's basically what he said he'd be doing.

"Look PL. We're going to hand you a 4.25 OS, and give you a 8x8 extension at the the end of the year."

That has to be against the CBA.
C'mon now, that's not the first time this happened, and the NHL did nothing about this before.

That’s some beautiful fan fiction but the Habs don’t have their 2nd round pick in 2024, so they can’t make that offer sheet..

Or any GM understands that due to his conflicts with management of the Jets, PLD wasn't put in a position to succeed.

And anyways, he hits UFA next summer he's still the best player on the Market. He'll make more than enough $ to compensate the fact he signed a 4.25 OS to stick it to the Jets who decides to he greedy and think they could trade him for a 1st and a top prospect.

Horvat was dealt for a late 1st (NYI were in a playoff spot when traded) a B prospect and a cap dump in Beauvilier. Jets fans thinking a worse player will get a better return are delusional.
Not going to get the option to sign an offer sheet …. The Jets are going to elect for team elected arbitration within 48 hours of the Stanley cup being awarded….. which will put all the leverage back in the Jets hands ….. where it belongs!

The Jets will control fully where PLD plays next year….. which will make PLD more open to signing long term with multiple teams not just 1…. And will extend the trading window until late July or early August….when arbitration cases are held.

Hope to god he doesn't come to Montreal. What a waste of assets and a proper tanking that would be for a middling talent.

Hopefully he can just ride out another year in Winnipeg before coming back home.

A #5 pick this year, probably a ~10 pick next year then add PLD and we're in a good position.

You don't think PLD can endure 1 more year at a random team? No matter what team he gets traded to, he'll probably be happier there than in Winnipeg so it's already an improvement. I think he wants to come back home, and if he's committed enough then he'll be home in almost exactly 1 year but he just needs to tough it out until then.

PLD on Martin St Louis

“He gave me back the pleasure of playing. He's been super good to me. He wanted me not to put too much pressure and have fun. He often reminded me of that. It's hard not to listen to a guy like that, who's had an incredible career."

And the league gets wind of that and awards Winnipeg your next 5 1st round picks.

Again, not very different from what Carolina did with KK

Lmfao the Kotkaniemi offersheet happened with a deal in place to get his cap hit lower after the fact.

Laban signed a 1 year deal for 1 million then extended for a number higher than he deserved that year.

The NHL does not care.

at least you are not loosing him for nothing. Tavares, Gaudreau left without their team getting anyting at all.
Indeed you might not get what PLD is worth but you'll get something.
think about that.
Yes but it is a dick move to make it this public.

Habs will not tender an offersheet to PLD. There is no point in that. Another team might, but not the Habs.

Any offersheet would have to be in the 6M dollar range to be effective. Habs won't gamble their 2024 1st in an offersheet.

This wouldn't prevent an OS.

The league didn't get wind of that when Kotkaniemi and the Hurricanes did the exact same thing. Nothing was said regarding Labanc either.

That would give Boston something like minus 1 million for 8 roster spots, and I don't think the NHL authorized pay-to-play schemes yet.

If Bergeron is retiring, Boston is in desperate need of a Top 6 center. They do need to clean up their salary cap mess and move some players out, like Taylor Hall and especially their D corp (they have 6 d-men making an unsustainable $3M+).

Jets could retain 50% on a Dubois 1-year deal to Boston if Boston couldn't otherwise fit him in for the current year.

No one will beat this.

Horvat got a similar return, and Horvat was at least PPG before being traded.

Pegs fan thinking tons of teams will throw top prospects and top15picks for Dubois are crazy.

Winnipeg's leverage is getting a bigger package by leaning on him to commit to a deal.

If it turns into a game of chicken, it could be a long year for PLD. He'll probably be at home reading The Count of Monte Cristo during the season. ;):DD

Agreed. Montreal shouldn't be pitching a lot of assets at Dubois but I am hoping the francophone angle causes them to do something silly.

OK Hunter... time for you to step up and make your best pitch. Who do you think Dubois is getting traded to and for what? @Junohockeyfan is keeping track for bragging purposes.

I got Dubois to Boston for Swayman and Lysell.

Habs - Anderson, Beck and 2nd (I don't love Anderson, but he's a overpaid 3rd liner who can do more). If ANderson blocks the trade, DVorak, Beck, Florida 1st, Habs dump Dvorak, he's just an overpaid 3rd liner with virtually no or little value to the Jets IMO

Boston - Carlo or I like your offer also or DeBrusk++

Avs - Newhook & 1st

Just spit balling

Here's the list of Boston players with sizeable salary and no NTC/NMC :

Jake Debrusk
Matt Grzelcyk
Charlie McAvoy

Jets could eliminate that scenario by team elected arbitration.

This would not allow any team to give PLD an offer sheet!

Ehh, I don't think that's correct. I believe PLD could sign an offer sheet up to July 5 and then that process takes over from arbitration.

(Anyone correct me if I am wrong with this)
