Tavares was a UFA and could sign wherever he wants. PLD is an RFA, saying he won't sign next season.
Tavares said the whole year of is last year that he would resigned, then went on and signs with Toronto.
I remember how isle fans were mad about it.
He tricked them in thinking he would stay before he didn't.
He played them , PLD is not

Do they?

Chevy will not allow this to go past the OS deadline in fear of a one year OS, bc while he can match a one year OS then he can't trade PLD and loses him for free. IMO the return will be slightly below a TDL return due to this.

Excluding the ridiculous massively discounted offer sheet, a 1-year OS would likely offer up a 1st and 3rd.

Montreal won’t do that. Jets would be ecstatic to get Montreal’s unprotected 1st round draft pick in 2024.

Some center needy teams (Colorado, Boston) couldn’t make the offer sheet since they lack holding the draft picks necessary.

I agree that Chevy should trade him before a team could OS Dubois. That said, I would expect a large market of interest in Dubois and THAT is what will drive the trade compensation. If there was only one serious team interested, then yes, we’re farked but the extreme lack of UFA talent going to market, especially at center, should draw good interest from a few teams and thus a bidding war.

TDL return with a cap dump attached might be doable.......bc thats less then a TDL return.

IMO the return will be slightly below the TDL return, bc Chevy cannot allow this to reach the OS deadline fearing a one year OS, which he could match but then cannot trade PLD and loses him for free next summer......albeit we get him one more year which does have value.

So IMO the return will be about the TDL value, maybe a bit less depending how much Chevy can grind the other GM
Not worried one bit.

Offer sheet w/ 2nd round pick as compensation: Dubois has no financial incentive to do this. But if he would go this route, match and use him sparingly during the season. Re-iterating it here: f***ing around could cost Dubois a lot of money on his next deal, and I don't think he's desperate enough to risk losing eight figures here.

Offer sheet w/ 1st+3rd pick as compensation: given that Montreal should be just about the only team that would send this offer sheet, you can safely accept and take no cap dumps back for doing so. Kind of mediocre, but the no cap dump angle really helps.

Offer sheet w/ any higher compensation: take the compensation from pretty much any team that is eligible to send the OS.

Incentive for PLD is to get out of Winnipeg.

That's a pretty serious incentive for him. 2nd rnd pick, Peg then either nerds to trade him in the following week (for ahiut the same value) or sigm him

I think the issue is that in order to move him at the deadline he needs to be under contract and seems unwilling to sign one according to this report. Teams get in bidding wars at the deadline and drive up prices, the fact that you only need cap space for the remaining portion of contract means that you pay a bit more. You can get value in off season- look at what Calgary got for Tkachuk.

If the jets want to maximize his value they will need to let potential suitors negotiate at extension with him before trading him. If I am a GM and I have an agreement in principal with him to extend for 8 yrs at $8M I will pay a lot more than I will for a guy who I only control for 1 year as a RFA who lets be honest based on his history is a flight risk and may demand way more than I am willing to pay after I acquire him.

If Jets trade him I suspect he will have an agreement in principal in place with acquiring team before the trade is finalized, if jets unwilling to do that or if PLD is unwilling to do that don't expect much of a return as teams will not take that risk.

I agree that we can’t let this go to July 1 since a team like Carolina can do a 1 year OS.

I think there should be good interest from center needy teams in a weak UFA market that the Jets should get a fair deal. I agree that the comp can be juiced if Dubois’ agent was allowed to negotiate a long-term extension as part of the deal.

We match without hesitation.

Then he has to deal with the fact that 1) he's stuck in Winnipeg for the year, 2) he's playing for a team that has zero long-term plans regarding him (and vice versa, too), 3) he has all of his next contract to play for on a terrible team, and 4) he already took a hefty pay cut to get to that situation. If he's not happy with it, better not throw a tantrum, because the big payday is yet to come.

He'll get out eventually. But by f***ing around with lowball offer sheets, there are multiple paths to losing 10-20 million of career earnings that he can never get back, regardless of the jersey he's wearing come 2024.

I'm not sure how someone can write these words so confidently and be so damn wrong lol.

Says the people who live in Montreal and have been nowhere else. Lol. It's called bias.

People go to Vegas, NYC, and LA to party (in NA).. not Montreal. That's a fact, not an opinion.

Do you guys think LA Ronde is better than Disney too?

Lol you guys are funny. Take the homer glasses off and live a little.

Montreal doesn’t even have their 24’ 2nd round pick. I wouldn’t be worried about a low ball offer sheet from them

I'm not quite sure what PLD (and his agency) wins by going out with this though.

Kotkaniemi was roughly in the same situation (in that he didn't want to play in Montreal, or at least with Montreal's management at the time anymore) but it was kept really hush-hush. Kotkaniemi's contractual situation was different though, in that the offer was much higher than his actual worth as a player, making his QO unreasonably high.

I get that the Jets wouldn't want a totally disgruntled player in their lockerroom next season, but it's not exactly in Dubois' advantage to totally mail it one year away from UFAcy either.

You bring up a fair point. Factoring in the OS angle, IMO the return will be roughly TDL or OS value for the return (this return would vary depending on the team)......I think expecting more or significantly more would be unrealistic. IMHO

Talks of Dach, Dach+, 5th OA, etc is wilding unrealistic and I've said that for many months.

That still doesn't mean that we should take back assets that nobody else would take for free. This isn't exactly rocket science. The prospects likely won't be blue chippers, yes, but that is exactly why we cannot take on terrible contracts too.

The base scenario for me is a rental return for PLD, with a one-year cap dump attached to him. Taking back long-term cap is an automatic loss, unless we get compensated for it.
You want a rental return for PLD, so basically a late 1st and some whatever prospect/young player. Okay, but you are a poster on the internet. If the Jets management doesn't want a rebuild and would prefer immediate roster help, then they would be looking at different kind of return, like for example a fast physical winger who scores ~25 goals a year and who is signed medium-term. So perhaps they don't see someone like Anderson as dead weight like you do.

He's just trying to force his way to a specific team clearly, Habs? Avs? Boston? Who knows

I get you need to push back because this thread has sort of devolved into obnoxiousness. But you're completely, utterly clueless if you think people across NA don't come to Montreal to party.
A beyond dumb comment.
You should take your homer glasses off.
Vegas, LA and NYC are terrific cities, for entertainment, but if you don't think
cities like Montreal and Toronto for that matter, don't have world class restaurants, festivals (Jazz, Comedy - largest in world in Mtl's case)
the F1 in Montreal too...among many things to do...
then the only thing you did in montreal was go to La Ronde and must be about 15 years old

Anderson can score 10, 15, 20 or even 25 goals for the Jets all he wants. All I want is proper compensation for the trashcan-level contracts that we are to take on, regardless of the team we trade with.

5th OA + Gallagher/Anderson for future considerations is a deal I would take. If this feels unreasonable, take a look at the number of trades involving large, long-term contracts from the past couple of years. The market isn't there.

Hits UFA as the BPA, signs for 7x8 M anyways...

No issue there. He'll go to arb, get another 6M ish deal... He'll be losing 1.5M$ taking the OS... Not 20.

The Habs do not have their 2024 2nd round pick. They would have to re-acquire it in order to make such an offer sheet.

LMAO That is 100% opinion. Not only can you just google that shit I know from 25 years of going there from Toronto.

Yeah, I don't think you understood my point at all.

The fact that you are lumping Anderson and Gallagher together as if they are similiar somehow tells a lot about how clueless you are though.
