Anderson's contract is a total non-starter, and we would need to be lucratively compensated for taking it on. The 5th overall pick would be a suitable piece, possibly Hutson or Guhle depending on preference, but nothing less than that is even remotely close to acceptable.

While I understand your hope for 5th OA or Guhle or Hutson...........and PLD is worth more then any of those pieces in a bubble (not sure about 5th OA)........zero chance the Jets are getting any of those pieces and i do mean zero chance.

You're misinterpreting my message here.

I don't expect us to get any of those three pieces.

I'm stating that one of those three should be involved in a deal that has us taking on the 22 million of dead cap space that Anderson is owed. That contract is hideous, and we should only touch it if we are given something ridiculously good as compensation.

I will sleep soundly with or without a Dubois trade with the Habs, but if we end up dealing him, we need to charge a premium price for taking on their trash.

No I don't think anybody wants to pay a crazy amount for the diva for a year so he can just bail after.

Low ball offers are all Win will be getting
All these garbage offers are exactly that , garbage offers , best you'll get out of montreal , we don't need him he's a luxury

RIP all the Winnipeg fans
TDL is busy with players in their last year of a contract. Are sellers getting low balled because of the contract status? Any “low-ball” offer has to at least meet a TDL compensation deal.

Barron is very good, already playing like a top4 defenceman at 21 but I guess you mean that Winnipeg doesn't need a RD.
Im not saying there isn’t potential there but come on, he’s not even getting more playing time than the guy the Jets considered their #12 defenseman. Calm down.

greenie here has other things to do with his life, pld would be served well because he can take less for a 1 year deal which ties the jets hands if they match, jets can not trade him than lose pld for nothing, because offer sheet match players can not be traded for 1 full year. if pld goes to the habs he can get a front loaded contract on the extended 8 year deal , something like what carolina did with kk, but only reversed money wise, kk got a lot to sign for 1 year than extended for less on longer deal, habs can offer sheet pld for next to no compensation than sign him to a 8 year extended deal front loaded which would use some of the upcoming cap space short term ,but lower cap hit over duration of contract, no one is paying what the jets want otherwise pld would have been dealt last year, jets are only going to get low ball offers for 1 year of pld.

That's a moot point though because any agent worth his salary would nix that in a heartbeat. A one year deal under market value is asinine and won't happen. He'd be one career ending injury away from getting nothing down the road.

Why would PLD sign such an offer sheet though?

Personally I'm not holding my breath on that, I've said many times on the main boards and especially on the Jets boards people better lower their expectations on any PLD return b/c its going to be disappointing in a bubble. But when one considers the value we got from Laine and PLD over the years, its not as horrible as it seems at least to me.

Yeah it makes no sense from his own perspectiven, not even factoring in the fact that the Jets are in no way letting this play out past July 1st. So his new team will match it in a heartbeat and be glad they got him at below market value as a rental for a year.

Dude, put a bit of effort and logic in your posts. Thanks.
thing is, most GMs are looking at Dubois and wondering if the effort will come with him

That still doesn't mean that we should take back assets that nobody else would take for free. This isn't exactly rocket science. The prospects likely won't be blue chippers, yes, but that is exactly why we cannot take on terrible contracts too.

The base scenario for me is a rental return for PLD, with a one-year cap dump attached to him. Taking back long-term cap is an automatic loss, unless we get compensated for it.

Again, you didn’t explain why Dubois would do this.

If your whole premise is that the Jets would be forced to trade him to Montreal, like I said before, if you kill the trade compensation that the Jets will receive, the Jets would likely just match.

You put Dubois’ year at risk of playing in Winnipeg for the whole season at a discount contract. Dubois is not doing that. His agent won’t suggest doing that either.

Do they?

Chevy will not allow this to go past the OS deadline in fear of a one year OS, bc while he can match a one year OS then he can't trade PLD and loses him for free. IMO the return will be slightly below a TDL return due to this.

F*ck I wish teams would have some backbone this is a player that deserves to be issued a QO and then put the ball in his court. If he wants UFA status after the next season he has to actually play his 7th season or he can wait until he is 27

TDL return with a cap dump attached might be doable.......bc thats less then a TDL return.

IMO the return will be slightly below the TDL return, bc Chevy cannot allow this to reach the OS deadline fearing a one year OS, which he could match but then cannot trade PLD and loses him for free next summer......albeit we get him one more year which does have value.

So IMO the return will be about the TDL value, maybe a bit less depending how much Chevy can grind the other GM

I really don't buy the nonsense about him only wanting to playing Montreal at all.

Not one actually credible source has come out and said that, it's always Montreal media or just random website speculation. Just because he didn't want to play in Columbus and doesn't want to play in Winnipeg isn't him forcing his way to one specific team... I'm sure a lot of players around the league don't want to play in either of those cities, Winnipeg in particular is the worst city in the NHL for players.

Will be very interesting to watch this situation unfold though. I wonder if Dubois ends up opting for a 3 year deal wherever he goes so he can cash in on another big deal as a UFA in 3 years time when the cap has likely blown up.

Friedman said 95% sure he's going to Montreal and I believe dreger said he was fairly certain he's going to be a Hab as well.

I think the issue is that in order to move him at the deadline he needs to be under contract and seems unwilling to sign one according to this report. Teams get in bidding wars at the deadline and drive up prices, the fact that you only need cap space for the remaining portion of contract means that you pay a bit more. You can get value in off season- look at what Calgary got for Tkachuk.

If the jets want to maximize his value they will need to let potential suitors negotiate at extension with him before trading him. If I am a GM and I have an agreement in principal with him to extend for 8 yrs at $8M I will pay a lot more than I will for a guy who I only control for 1 year as a RFA who lets be honest based on his history is a flight risk and may demand way more than I am willing to pay after I acquire him.

If Jets trade him I suspect he will have an agreement in principal in place with acquiring team before the trade is finalized, if jets unwilling to do that or if PLD is unwilling to do that don't expect much of a return as teams will not take that risk.

That's still childish behavior because he's paid to play and the man just stopped playing and told all his teammates i don't care. This is not all about the coach
he is a human being with feeling, he was pissed off he made a mistake that he could not take back.
No big deal here , just treat people with respect , Tort was a ass

I think Yashin comparisons are relevant, and Dubois comes out on the wrong side of those. Seen him live twice, once this past season. Didn't make strong impression the first time either way. This last year (at NYI) he looked far less interested than Yashin ever did. (Saw a lot of Yashin, whose big issue down was much more his lack of acceleration than any lack of effort). If there's any player I want no part of, it's him.

At least he's got the balls of being honest about it, not like Tavares did or Gaudreau
Tavares was a UFA and could sign wherever he wants. PLD is an RFA, saying he won't sign next season.
