If you go back and look at PLD's draft, most of the players at the top are no longer with the team who drafted them.
Only 5 of the top 20 are still with team who drafted them

1) Matthews - still in Toronto
7) Keller- still In Arizona ...for now
12) Michael Mcleod- still in Jersey
14) Mcavoy still in boston
18) stanley- still in Winnipeg

Have you been to Montreal?

I've been to most notable NHL cities, and I can absolutely understand wanting to live somewhere like LA, Toronto, Chicago, NYC, etc... But Montreal isn't even close to those cities for nightlife unless you're 18. Lol

I'm not surprised he wants out of Winnipeg though.

Toronto is the city that doesn’t belong in that list

I’ve said all along, and will continue to stand by it, this would be my offer from a Habs standpoint.

To Winnipeg:
2023 1st (Acquired from Florida)
Choice of Barron or Harris
Christian Dvorak (cap purposes)

To Montreal:
Dubois - signed to a 7.85 x 8 year extension.

Given the current situation, I think it’s fair and similar to the Horvat return.
Player has more value than Horvat, first is significantly worse than the islanders pick at the time of the trade and Dvorak is a significantly worse cap dump.

RIP all of the Habs fans who were insistent on waiting for him to sign for nothing.

Garbage trade, not even 1 piece that should really interest Winnipeg. You don't think anyone will beat this?

For Chevy, this now boils down to exactly two objectives.

#1: absolutely refuse to take back any salary whatsoever beyond the 23-24 season just to get the deal done. The Flyers just showed you how costly it should be to take on even a second year of considerable cap back, so act accordingly. If someone offers up enough material to take on some cap dump, then it's OK, but nobody probably will.

#2: mentally, give yourself the permission to make Dubois sit out and leave for free at 27 y.o., should he not sign his QO. I highly, highly doubt PLD would take on that risk, but if push comes to shove, he sits until an acceptable trade is offered. Dubois can no longer be considered a roster piece; therefore, he only has trade value left for us. Don't waste it. And before anyone asks: yes, making him sit out for two years is a lot more valuable than whatever bullshit offer you're about to put together.

Barron is very good, already playing like a top4 defenceman at 21 but I guess you mean that Winnipeg doesn't need a RD.

Barron is an ok piece but not as a main piece in a deal for a young 1C with some control. He wouldn't be in many competing team's top 4. Florida's pick is obviously going to be very slow. Dvorak is a straight dump at this point.

No I don't think anybody wants to pay a crazy amount for the diva for a year so he can just bail after.

Low ball offers are all Win will be getting
All these garbage offers are exactly that , garbage offers , best you'll get out of montreal , we don't need him he's a luxury

RIP all the Winnipeg fans

if pld tells the jets that he will go to montreal on july 1st and sign a cheap 1 year deal, it forces the jets to make a deal otherwise he leaves in 1 more year and the jets get nothing, also no tampering if it is done by pld approaching the habs, besides the jets have known for a long time now that pld wants out of the peg, this type of tactic helps to get it done, what would the jets gain by keeping a player for 1 more year that they can not trade if they are in a offer sheet situation. what is stupid about a concept that gets something done? the reality is the jets have lost leverage by not acting last season.

You didn’t explain why Dubois would sign a very cheap offer sheet with Montreal.

Your whole premise is to extract more leverage from Winnipeg so Montreal can be cheap with the trade compensation. Why would Dubois care about that and endure the very real risk that the Jets would simply match?

The reason why the Jets will be trading Dubois this year is because of asset management. The Jets would view the trade assets being received as worth more than not having Dubois in their line-up. If you kill the quality of the trade assets AND you can have Dubois in the line-up for a ridiculous bargain, then the Jets would likely just match.

This is a silly fantasy play on your part that doesn’t serve the player well at all.

No one will beat this.

Horvat got a similar return, and Horvat was at least PPG before being traded.

Pegs fan thinking tons of teams will throw top prospects and top15picks for Dubois are crazy.

Newhook sucks man. You know it. But Jets fans probably don't. He played 4C and wing in the playoffs. But i will keep your secret for you.

NewJost + 1st for PLD! That's how bad PLD's value is as a rental.
I think you made my point for me. Not all teams are equal and players are not relative to the where they play in the lineup. Newhook playing 4th line on the Stanley cup championship team, IN THE PLAYOFFS is way way way better than Dach playing in any position on the AHL calibre team that is a perennial cellar dweller, who don’t play a meaningful game since they are out of the playoffs by November. Newhook plays for a team where every opponent comes in and plays their best game trying to knock off the champ. Dach, if he isn’t injured, goes out and play against an opponent who normally play their backup goalie, and just spent the night before out on the town, cause they know they don’t need to bring their A game.

Think about it. It’s like you are comparing the 4th prettiest Victoria secret model (Newhook)to the the 2nd place winner in the ugly contest at the leper colony (Dach). It’s not relative….but don’t worry I will keep your secret from the lepers you hang with.

I'm sorry but you're just 100% wrong about this.

Yes because what other team is going to trade for a player who is leaving next july and be stupid enough to pay the jets asking price, also remember no team ponied up for pld last year , if the jets would have received any offer close to their wishlist the trigger would have pulled on a trade, jets are getting nothing but low ball offers.
LOL, I can’t help myself with this poster.

Dude, calling a 31OA draft pick “generous” for PLD has to be the most asinine comment made in this entire thread, and that’s saying something.

A TDL deal would guarantee a 1st round pick + good prospect + …

But But But....

Wow our expectations are dropping faster than a rock.

Not really, my opinion on a return has been fair consistent over the months, with some minor variations. My expectations has always been in the lower side compared to some others, so while the returns I hope or exected might vary they have always been lower then most none Habs returns.

Explaining Anderson, Beck and 2nd:

Anderson - WHile I don't love him, he fits the win now rumors. He's not any valuable piece but would at least help a bit and provide some physical play. IIRC he has a trade restriction so that might kill that idea. If Anderson blocked a trade, then maybe Dvorak, but that would increase the futures of this return bc Dvorak has very debatable value.

Beck - He is a decent futures piece

2nd rd - Chevy will be looking for more futures to rebuild

Anderson's contract is a total non-starter, and we would need to be lucratively compensated for taking it on. The 5th overall pick would be a suitable piece, possibly Hutson or Guhle depending on preference, but nothing less than that is even remotely close to acceptable.

Out of all of Montreal's many cap dumps, Hoffman is the only one who we could discuss as a "free" cap dump that is there to facilitate the deal going through, as he only has a year left himself (and has no trade protection). The rest of the dumps should cost a pretty penny to dump, as was proven by the Petersen/Walker deal this week.

Jesus. I see we’re dealing with a sub-1,000 post poster here. My mistake in engaging the greenie lol.
greenie here has other things to do with his life, pld would be served well because he can take less for a 1 year deal which ties the jets hands if they match, jets can not trade him than lose pld for nothing, because offer sheet match players can not be traded for 1 full year. if pld goes to the habs he can get a front loaded contract on the extended 8 year deal , something like what carolina did with kk, but only reversed money wise, kk got a lot to sign for 1 year than extended for less on longer deal, habs can offer sheet pld for next to no compensation than sign him to a 8 year extended deal front loaded which would use some of the upcoming cap space short term ,but lower cap hit over duration of contract, no one is paying what the jets want otherwise pld would have been dealt last year, jets are only going to get low ball offers for 1 year of pld.
