Still is funny how you discard Severson signed 8y worth only a 3rd, understand context to UFA, but not in Dubois' case. He will not sign nor play for the Jets either... I am not saying he is worth a 3rd, and we agreed on a trade value earlier, but I am saying you are not getting Dubois value, because he is 1y away from UFA. Even signed for 8y. Like Severson signed 8y is not worth a 3rd pick, you said it yourself, he is worth a lot a more, but the team was soon to be loosing him. That's 1y away for the Jets in Dubois' case. That's why you are getting no Dach, Byfield, and probably no Vilardi for Dubois with almost no team control left...
Sometimes I wonder what's wrong with people

Whoever gets PLD will be getting him with EIGHT YEARS of team control, full stop.

If he flat out said he's walking to UFA (like severson was about to), then you'd be right. But that's not the case

Barron is a much better prospect than Raty, not even close.

14OA (at the time of the trade) is likely worth close to if not more than 31st and Barron combined.

Also, and I know this is difficult for you to handle, there was no agreed upon contract. Lou just doesn't give a f***.

Most of the Habs prospects are B or lower.

Slaf probably doesn't count but he's an A, Hutson is an A even with the question marks imo. Beck, Kidney, Roy, Mesar etc are B prospects. Very good NHL prospects but not surefire NHLers let alone elite ones. Taking age into account Barron is better than a lot of your prospects but Colorado also traded him for a very good pending RFA winger who they could re-sign for long term 😉.

Andrew Copp, as a rental, returned a 1st (31OA Lambert), a second (55OA Salomonsson) and Morgan Barron. The 1st are a wash. I'd value Kidney a little higher than Barron (Kidney has more upside but also more risk) and I'd value Barron more than the 55OA (but I like Salomonsson more than Barron)

In terms of the players the Jets ended up with, the Copp trade yielded better returns, but some of that is the Jets making strong selections at 30OA and 55OA. Overall I'd say this offer is a little more than what Andew Copp returned as a rental at the deadline, but not vastly more. But, we are talking about a player who is a lot better than Copp and we are talking about a trade and sign not a deadline rental.
You’re also talking about a player who has all but refused to play another game for the Jets and limited the number of teams he’s willing to extend with. He’s also a player that , fairly or not, has gotten a reputation of quitting on his team.

Lol I never said anything about competing. Maybe in managements wildest dreams but our fans know reality unlike yours lol. The core is being retooled, we still need professional level players to come in and ice a team that can play at the NHL level, of which neither Beck or Mesar are going to be capable of playing in the next 1-3 seasons like management wants. Beck and Mesar will not be playing AHL hockey until 24/25 and even then what will the development time be transitioning to pro hockey? The AHL is much higher level hockey than OHL in case you didn’t notice.

Maybe they turn out to be valuable, certainly not PLD valuable, but who knows. The Jets managed to make Pionk and Morgan Barron into some decent NHLers from their returns in those trades :thumbu:

Can’t wait for your next terrible straw man argument lol.
The funny thing about your argument regarding Becks development curve is that he has already played in an nhl regular season game. He was called up on an emergency basis this year and did not look at all out of place. He won’t be winning a spot this year. But he’s likely much closer to being a full time NHL’er than you’re giving credit for.

Most Habs fans want PLD.

But they want him for cheap... and most will be upset when he is either traded to another team or traded to Montreal for a king's ransom.

I still hope he comes to Montreal, but I don't really want to pay him 9m

Bingo.

Get him for somewhat cheap...sure why not.

Pay through the nose to get him via trade and then give him a monster contract..pass.

His value is as an 8 year player, because that's what the team he's being traded to will be
And if none of the teams he is interested in are offering 8 years? He is going to a team he doesn't want? 8 years is an ask, that is all, as much fact as the reported 9M. All speculation till something is actually signed.

Why wouldn't a team want 8 years? It spans his prime perfectly and the term drives down the AAV

Dubois will make the Habs competitive.

Said nobody ever.
He will make them less non-competitive tho

I guess but tbh they'd be better off sticking to their plan and being mediocre/bad bc they'll continue to draft high the next few years. The worst thing you can do is situate yourself in no man's land where you miss the playoffs (which they definitely will, with or w/o PLD) but don't draft high. That's stuff of nightmares.

An 8 year contract till age 33 for a player with a career high 63 points is a cap dump waiting to happen, not an advantage. Preferable to pay a bit more now and be rid of him if you want at age 30 than have him giving Dvorak level production in the last 3 or 4 years.of an 8 year deal.

Justin Barron? Off limits. Logan Mailloux? Off limits. Owen Beck? Maybe, but he's like a top 20 pick himself, so take out everything else of value.

Murat had literally just came off a vacation and was speculating Dach is (rightly) untouchable. He hasn't actually heard anything other than what we've all heard and assume that Dach isn't available. Great writer of Jets content but he has no inside information on the Jets, let alone the Habs.

I don't think it even needs to be stated Caufield and Suzuki aren't going anywhere

Plenty of us have said Florida's 1st + Barron + would work, but apparently Barron is untouchable too.
I don’t think Barron is an untouchable but he would certainly be hard to part with since Montreal doesn’t have anything on the right side except for Barron right now with Mailloux coming up at some point.

Mailloux and Beck are definitely on the table. Tons of Habs fans have made offer including Beck not because he’s not a good prospect but because we wouldn’t have any room for him with Suzuki, Dach and PLD at center. I think Hughes would be more willing to do Mailloux instead of Barron - Not because of what happened in his draft year but because Barron is already contributing and I bet they think they can at least compete for a playoff spot next year (kinda like where Ottawa was in 2022-2023).

As I said, Barron would be hard pill to swallow and would force Hughes to draft Reinbacher at 5. Not an impossible trade but would rather give another asset instead.

Also, if any Jets fan is wondering what they are most likely getting out of Beck, Mailloux and Barron;

Beck: Very close to being NHL ready. His GM was on record saying he does not expect him back in the OHL next season. Prime Beck is likely going to be a player very similar to Phil Danault. 45-50 points per year, excellent in the faceoff, PK1, good two-way/shutdown game and excellent on the forecheck.

Mailloux: Also pretty close to being NHL ready. Big, fast, good first pass and vision. Should be a very similar player to Brady Skjei and a good to great top 4 D.

Barron: Barron looks to me a bit like Petry. Should top off as a good #3 on a contender. Smooth skater, good first pass and stick.

Indeed. Habs need RHD and Barron played like a solid young #4 at the end of the season.

1st + Barron would mean Habs pay nore for PLD than NYI paid for Horvat which won't happen.

1st
B prospect (Beck-Hutson-Kidney-Roy are out)
Cap dump

Thats it.
1st+Barron would also mean that Dubois has similar value to Lehkonen.

You do realize the Habs just signed Nick Suzuki to an 8 year contract til age 31 and has a lower career high? He is a cap dump waiting to happen, too?

Glad you recognize that Suzuki isn't a legit 1C.

I concur.
